In the original folklore, Ariel isn't "European" ... She's Atlantian... She comes from UNDER the sea...

But beyond that, Disney changes the story in ALL their adaptations... Think of this as a multiversal story: Ariel in a different universe.

Or should Disney have the TRUE story of "Pocahontas" told... The REAL version of Rapunzel... Or the HOST of stories they they intentionally changed and have the original endings in them?

If it's based on the cartoon, it should look like the cartoon. But I'm not the target audience and I'd never watch it anyway. So, whatever.

For something so fantastical and whimsical that shit looks way too dark (and no I'm not talking about the lead actress).

Honestly all these live action re-adaptations are awful but this one really missed the mark in that regard. It's devoid of any charm, life and colour (and no, once again, I'm not talking about the lead actress you cheeky cunts).

Ariel's race doesn't matter because she is Atlantean, a made up demographic. That said Blacks make up 13% of the US population and media directed at the American audience these days is overrepresenting them while mostly ignoring the soaring population of Hispanics.

To put this in perspective For every little black girl that is saying, "OMG she looks like me" there are like 9 non-blacks that are like, "Why did they change her mommy?"

We are living with the tyranny of the minority right now which is why gays, and trans characters are also vastly over-represented. Audiences are noticing this and are getting tired of it. I mean, how many times do you roll your eyes at the gay romance shoe-horned into every netflix show. Its just boring, and lazy, virtue signaling.

Again there is nothing wrong with Ariel being black, what is wrong is that all redheads are being replaced by black characters...lol.

Also, if you want to have more characters of color then make up some new ones...

There are black gingers ... Asian gingers... Born that way. And they don't have to be biracial either. Malcolm X and Redd Foxx were both gingers.

Not gonna touch the rest of the post though...

The actress looks stupid. I dont mind good black actors getting parts. I loved Jeffrey Wright as Gordon and the Catwoman casting was on point too. But this girl is not Ariel. Especially when there are other black actresses who are much prettier, more charismatic and better actors like Zendaya who just won her second Emmy last night. She fucking crushed it in Euphoria for two seasons in a row now. Why is being relegated to bs side roles in movies?

Pick better actors. Westworld's new cast was absolutely trash. Not a single actor stood out. This from a show that featured plenty of exceptional black, female and minority actors in the first season over 6 years ago.

The movies also feel cheaply made. They need to go after good big name directors and cinematographers. These movies look way too dull and completely miss the artstyle of the originals. I dont mind the castings of minorities in white roles, but you are doing them no favors by putting them in mediocre movies having them shoulder the blame for the movie's failings instead of the people really responsible. You have to be judicious with it. Cant just cast a random actor. You still need to have the same high standards as you do for every other movie.

Yeah but I have a feeling this one when it becomes live action will be true to the original Disney Version

Which was obviously raced swapped to the original story, but that didn't matter because it was a completely new take and the characters was completely new too.
It was just Disney's rendition of the story
And it was fantastic.
The problem people have is they are changing their own characters that are established.

Yall complainf when they make new ones too lol.

Also, us minorities aren't playing representation Olympics. Hispanic kid is seeing a black character and saying "why isn't he hispanic?"

Besides, thereve been plenty of hispanic characters from Disney of late. Elena of avalon is a Latina princess, there was the coco movie, etc etc. Namor the Sub Mariner is going to be latino in Black Panther 2, as will much of his tribe be.

We don't try to match the percentages, that osnt hoe demohraphic even works unless everu movie was filming every region in the US or elsewhere. So the 13 percent thing is nonsense, and doesn't even apply to this movie which not only doesn't even take place in the US but doesn't feature her coming from a nation exists.

Its not a competition. Its just healthy representation, probably with some corporate merchandising opportunity in there too but hey I'll take it.

I actually saw the reaction of a little white girl seeing the trailer for the first time. She liked it... She didn't say s*it about her color because it didn't matter to her. Kids aren't racist unless it's taught to them.

Edit to include said video:

Wait .. wait

According to Croatoan Croatoan .. that little girl should have turned to her mum to discuss the culture impact of not having a white mermaid.

Those are descriptors. You know this. We haven't gotten to the point of just saying "boy" and "girl" yet... This country, this world, won't let that happen. Plus this country (USA) is multiracial... you can't just say "boy" and "girl".... It's not a homogeneous nation.

It didn't matter back then because the woke Wars hadn't started. If it were made today the anti woke would be screeching about it.

And AFRICA didn't? Do you understand how incredibly xenophobic, racist, and bigoted everything you are saying is? Like Africa has only one race on it?

There is ZERO difference between MCU Asgard and Wakanda. ZERO. The only difference is that folks like you get to be incredibly dismissive of other folks concerns while pearl clutching for your own interests. Both places are playing to a global audience and both places should have the EXACT SAME casting methodology applied to them. Either both places get to represent their origin cultures or NEITHER OF THEM do.

It's really that simple.

Damn what a time to be alive when just 13 years ago people bitched that resident evil 5 only had black enemies because you know the game location was in Africa.

You're absolutely correct, same as the woke pretends that the film doesn't exist.
Or that Blade in 1998 was the first film to have the Marvel Splash card at the beginning.

I dont think the choice of a Black Person is the Problem.
The Problem is that we know she was only chosen because of the woke agenda in Hollywood and that they will try to feed us it.

This is an adaptation of the Disney animated movie though, not of the original folklore. Also, are you making this up because I can’t find a source for that. The original folklore is from Denmark. So, you can guess what colour her skin is.

No one pretends that Blade doesn't exist, I'm not sure what you are talking about.

Applying standards of progressives, Ariel should never be black, given it's based on Danish folklore, so it's cultural appropriation. You have no way to excuse it. ;)
