In what sense? Sci-ence! Method of science.

She believes it does. Took a look at the stars at her date, time and location of of birth according to google in Stellarium.

While Aries Tropically(can be discerned from the ecliptic) Pisces is her stellar Sun Sign and very strong with her.

Her physical appearance looks very much like a water creature. It's even memed.

The forehead was remarked upon. Aries is strong too with the presence of three planets.

That's just basic physical traits. Her answers were revealing for those familiar with astrological details that can be researched elsewhere for those unfamiliar yet interested in learning.

She was a good example of the sidereal reset. A synchronicity the movie was pointed out at this time with this actress to coincide with need of an example.

Her eyes are so far apart that she looks like one of those characters you'd create or choose as a preset in a character creator thing and then slide the slider all the way to max too see how dumb of a face you can get. LOL.

Actually those eyes are the exact as a pigs eyes. Cant unsee it when they are so far apart.

You lot are probably going to laugh but that little bit of her singing brought me to tears as I rewatched the trailer tonight. Her voice is so beautiful and powerful... Sounds like the tail end (no pun intended) of the song. I'm still in tears, yo!

This right here... this is important.

I hope this movie lives up to their expectations, I truly do. And even if its not great, I hope they can find joy in it.

Bruh... The fact someone laugh reacted to this shows they don't get it... I'm glad you do. Seeing the awe and joy in these babies' faces while watching/listening to her singing and SEEING her... That just made my night! Eff the haters!

She is pretty. And very charismatic. She also seems genuine and nice.

She is one of the only people I feel bad about in all of this. What young actor wouldn't take the role and make a lot of money and a name for themselves? It's a shitty situation Disney put her in because they wanted to race swap an iconic character. People were more chill with it some time back but seems like more and more people don't want that. Easy solution IMO would have been to make a story about a new mermaid, not Ariel. I am willing to bet most people would have been okay with it.

All this whining over a non-issue. The premise of the story is not dependent on color. Try watching Little Mermaid on a B&W television sometime.

Would you be saying the same thing if they had cast Brad Pitt as Blade? Or Sandra Bullock as Storm? I know I wouldn't, but I also don't like race swapping Ariel. But then again I am not a fan of race and gender swap, especially for iconic characters.

IMO respect the source material. Write and create original characters instead of trying to pander.

Yeah this is not theater material, belongs to the shitty and cringy 1,99€ kids dvd's bin.

Have ou seen the old direct to DVD Disney movies? Have you seen the direct to Disney+ Artemis Fowel and Pinocchio?
This looks nothing like any of those, this is far higher quality.

And Rob Marshall was still pretty darn good on Mary Poppins Returns.

A AnotherDayAnotherDollar I personally wouldn't care if Blade was white. Isn't anything about him that makes him have to be black. Not so sure about Storm though, I'm sure some of her origin points relate back to her home country.

That's pretty much every character.

You are also probably the only person okay with a white Blade.

I'm only saying it doesn't weaken the narrative as portrayed on-screen.

Ulterior motives for race or gender swapping are issues outside the film itself.

As far as I know Blade was born in London, he could be any nationality, there isn't anything that ties him to being African.
Storm on the other hand is a descendent of a line of African princesses or something to that affect.

You can trace Blade's lineage back to Africa, obviously. N'Dare being a princess to a random tribe Kenya doesn't add much. You can make her a princess of somewhere else. Hell make N'Dare princess of a white village in South Africa. She'll still be of African descent.

Hmm. You raise a good point.

Of course I'm not familiar enough with Blade to know just how significant African descent is to his upbringing or development.

Well, Triton is from Greek mythology. (Son of Poseidon, Brother of Zeus..)
Looks like he married his cousin Athena. (Athena = Zeus' daughter & Queen Athena is Ariel's mom)

I guess that is true about N'Dare, she could be a part of European royalty instead.

All that said, once a child has seen a trailer and had their expectations set, I'd say that ship has sailed. It's too bad, because The Little Mermaid is one of the best movies they ever made.
She’s seen the original many MANY times, and is obsessed with everything to do with mermaids. It’s nice to see the old “Disney magic” work on its target audience, with none of the hang ups we adults bring to sully our opinions.

About as relevant or noteworthy as me taking a dump on the toilet right now.

Typical Variety spin.

Every single YT video or repost of said trailer has a minimum of a 3:1 ratio in favor of dislikes. It's trending for all the wrong reasons which doesn't bode well for it's B/O performance.

IGN'S repost even disabled the comments along w/ hundreds of Reddit threads being locked.

Like I said, perception is everything which helps paint a narrative that the majority are happy w/ the race swapping of Ariel. Context w/ numbers matter.

This guy nails it.

The worst part, this is nothing compared to when the "Snow White" trailer gets officially released w/ yet another race swap.

Oh look, another anti-woke Youtuber. I already know him and his schtick.
Talking of ratios, the trailer has 104 million views, the Youtube trailer has 1 million dislikes. I don't think Disney will care about such an insignificant dislike number.

You do realize the amount of dislikes or likes never equals the amount of views, right? 1.1 million dislikes is off just 9 million views w/ only 300K likes w/ similar ratios on reposts no matter the channel.

If you're discounting the dislikes, then use that energy w/ the amount of likes in comparison to views. Oh wait...

Context matters w/ views, regardless of the content. Or do just want to continue to ignore that?

The other 90 million views were on other platforms where people don't care about disliking things, if the other 90 million people were so offended by the teaser I'm sure they would have flocked to Youtube and dislike it but they didn't.

Somehow I doubt the dislikes originate from the target demographic.

Now groups of parents being offended and saying they won't take their children to see the movie, THAT would get my attention.

No, the other 90 million weren't. At least 30 million are on YT alone from the original trailer & YT reposts which is how the views are calculated. You're right about one thing though, hard to quantifty a dislike on other platforms when there's no button to do so 😘

I get it, you're upset it's not getting the reception you thought it would corresponding w/ your view on the movie. However, denying context of said numbers where can they can be extrapolated is just ignorant.

Wow, looks like my idea about using AI to race-swap characters is actually happening lol.

It looks a bit off when she closes her eyes, but otherwise pretty impressive. If this takes off, no one will ever have a reason to complain about diversity (or lack thereof) ever again. I fully expect someone to use this for Rings of Power.

Oh I know, those million dislikes are from 30-40 year old men, not young girls.

I won't suggest changing an established character was the best option, but I will praise them for not backpedaling.
Still a standalone follow-up could've been cool. What if Ariel's determination inspired others?

If you want to argue the number of dislikes is cause for concern about the movie's quality, okay.
Nevertheless the number by itself doesn't tell us who disliked it or why.

Wonderful for the kids.

But I'll never not be of the opinion that they should put in the effort of creating new, powerful and memorable worlds and characters with diversity. Not bend older ones.

Like they've done with Moana and Encanto. Great stuff. Just follow that path.

Kids don't care really.

Its older people that care, because they see a loved character be butchered for the sake of racisme and pushing agenda's. Sadly for disney those older people are the exact ones that pay there bills.

Ariel being black isn’t what is going to push people away. It’s that they are revamping this love story to not be a love story. She isn’t going to do things “out of love for a man” says the newest news. It’s going to be about “ empowering women “

So basically it’s going to be a different movie with the same characters.
They changed the story aswell??

Let me guess, they also erased the scene with chef that try to kill sebastian because the chef is now vegan.

Anyway, thought the trailer was fine, you actress sounds alright, not too sure about the ginger dreadlocks 🤔
Really this should have been made years ago with Amy Adams as she seems to nail the Disney Princess,

On that note, Disenchanted looks actually good for what it is.

Wait how do you see the dislikes? I thought they disabled it?

And if you're on Android, you can use YouTube Vanced which is essentially a modified YT App but shows the dislike counter, automatically skips commercials & in-video promos, allows playing of music when the screen is off etc (essentially a better version of YT Premium).

In the grand scheme of things this wont matter. Just like any of the other live action Disney movies didn’t matter and are forgettable. The only reason this is coming out in theaters is because there is no way some executive at Disney is going to sideline this after they made it such a talking point for diversity. And also it really doesn’t matter for them. They will just keep pumping out the insanely popular and lucrative cartoon Ariel everywhere else.

The only thing this movie does is give all the little minority mermaids an actual mermaid that looks like them. That’s not a bad thing at all. And this girl is a way better representation than Megan the stallion or Cardi b.

The bad side that Disney didn’t think about is people will segregate it down to Ariel and “Black” Ariel so instead of a little girl dressing up as “ Ariel “ for Halloween she will be one of the two for a lot of people.

When disney is gonna make their spins to justify why this thing failed, i bet they are gonna call the whole thing "the little band-aid"

Edit: ooof tought crowd, i was expecting at least 5 triggered reaction and a couple of death threats for this one...

I'd be inclined to suspect it's more for merchandising purposes, than some clandestine "agenda".
Should this Ariel catch on, they'll be able to sell two variations of the toys for decades.
