TEKKEN 7 |OT| How I killed your mother

Anyone here playing with the analog sticks on a pad? I used to always play with d-pad, but i just get major pain in my thumbs after a while. Switched over to analog in sf4 era where half circles and stuff where much easier to nail with the stick, but i guess we'll see how it goes here.

Believes Dragon Quest is a franchise managed by Sony
jukebox question, is it true that there are no arrange versions of songs from the PS1 versions of games, and its just arcade?

Me too! I've not had any problems so far.

The matchmaking issues seems to be only ranked/player match on PS4. This will be fixed soon. In the meantime, online tournament mode and everything else works.

Not really. The fact that when the host leaves there is no transfer is fucking up lobby and online tournament mode. No rematch option in player match is a travesty especially with how long loading times are. I don't even know how that can be possible to launch a fighter without this option.

So yeah, regarding the online, the netcode is really good, but everything around it is garbage.

The Practice mode is so good in T7. I love being able to put the move list on screen, play a quick demo and then try to match it. And all the options for opponents. It makes a lot easier to try out things quickly.

Yeah that's what I'm doing. It's fun and they've done very well with it and the gameplay in this game is crazy. A few nights ago I went through all the previous Tekkens and just did Arcade Mode in each to get ready for 7 on a nostalgia tip and one thing I found out is that out of all the Tekkens, the one that felt like it had the perfect gameplay was T5DR. Idk what it was about that game but it was just fun.

After playing 7 I gotta say 7 has the best gameplay out of any Tekken out there. It's satisfying as hell and even with new mechanics it's still fresh but it's still Tekken.

Are there any new stages.
Also are the FMV'S lower res then the originals.
I don't remember them look this bad and pixelated.

Well, my PS4 copy arrives tomorrow, and I'm excited for my first Tekken since 2. I know/hope the online will be fixed soon, so I guess I'll play in practice mode for a while, try to find a few characters that I'm decent at. I haven't been good at a Fighter since the original Soul Calibur, so this is daunting....but also exciting.

Hype.

SFV is much harder to a beginner than T7.

My friends tell me they eased the input windows and slowed the game speed down in general ,yet to me it seemed to me neckbreakingly difficult.

2D games are much more difficult and obtuse. I am genuinely surprised they tend to be more popular.

I found KoFXIII to be borderline unplayable hard on the other hand ,and I spend hours in practice mode trying to make sense of it.

I don't think that's true at all. I mean, I'm not saying you might not have found it that way, but I don't think SFV is harder to play than this game, far from it.

One thing about a lot of 3D fighters is that the moves tend to flow quite well, so you can just press buttons and it can feel like you're doing the right thing. In reality, almost everything you're doing is unsafe, and you have no understanding of your characters bnbs.

Crucially, these games don't do a very good job in helping players understand this, and therefore I often see a lot of people thinking they know how to 'play tekken', when in reality, they have a false sense of competence. This likely results from a lack of feedback and tutorial. As an example, the AI will usually get hit by the 10-hit combo strings, but these aren't combos, and are unsafe so it creates a false-sense of competence as players think they are learning the right thing, getting better at the game.

When I used to run the FGC in my town we used to joke about how people that were bad at fighting games would often say that the only fighting game they could play was Tekken. Insufficient feedback, poor information architecture, and a lack of tutorialing allows players to build a false sense of competence. They often became demoralised very quickly when their expectations were shattered and they found themselves blown up by someone with a loose understanding of the games systems.

So I think Tekken and 3D fighters generally are easier to pick up and have fun with than 2D fighters, but I think that actually learning the games systems and getting good at these games is quite a bit more complex, especially for Tekken and VF.

There's only one stage from T5

If you find them familiar, it's because the series doesn't stray too much from certain types of environment throughout it's history (and they covered a lot of settings)...

I think there is? I remember seeing like 4 or so playlists you can customize. Then you can pick which songs you want to add to them. I didn't make one though, just looked at the option. Yeah I am loving the library too, don't have a ton of time to play this weekend, but I do take short breaks to watch some of the old videos. I love how Tekken jumps from 100% serious to 100% goofy.

Ah maybe I missed it, will check after final.

Agree with many the customization is kind of poor, fully expect some was held back for DLC. A lot of the T7 costumes are terribad.

Chloe and Katarina definitely seem like my jam, but finding the game pretty difficult so far. Haven't played any 3D fighters in years.

What's the best way for a new guy to find online matches? Head straight to ranked or go for a quick search?

I got Katarina's rainbow hair super quickly too lol.

Yeah it's weird as hell.

I ran Nina through Treasure Battle for a bit.
In a short time (less than 20 matches), I had three heist battles with her, got the rainbow hair + both parts of some bikini/pareo outfit. My fourth heist battle was against Eddy, and I got his rainbow hair.

I actualy agree with you.

The deep end of Tekken can be mind numbing but I think the fact that the games give a false sense of competency is good for beginners where as games like KOFXIII or Guilty gear are absolutely brutal right from the first moment.

Tekken is extremely intricate and difficult but it doesnt wear it on its sleeve(with the exception of Tag2-that game was extremely difficult on every level) and it does take a while before you realize you're actually hopeless.

Oh and maybe it's just me, but the jukebox volumes are all over the place.

T7 and maybe one or two other games have the music set to the right volume, but every other soundtrack is really quiet.

I have a few T4 songs in the playlist that I have to strain my ears to even hear them.
Conversely, I can't turn the volume up without T7 songs doing a number on my eardrums.

Well, its been 2 years and most of the customs are the same from Tekken 6 :D

I just think they skimped out on this department. Tekken 5DR had great customization with unique gear for all. Here we juat have extra large jackets for all :p

I just want to make Katarina my wife forever, but I know I need to at least experiment with the rest of the cast. She's like a Brazilian Sarah Bryant.

And even though PS4 online is broken, it says something when: 1) an absolute newbie like myself still wants to play online even though there is a 100% chance I will get destroyed, and 2) the game is interesting enough where I will forgive Namco if they fix this shit hopefully in the next few days.

C'mon Namco, people still got the story mode and Treasure mode to go through, you have to got to fix this shit immediately unless you want to be in that SFV gutter.
I like SFV.

Finally dug in for real today. I was at first excited to try out some of the new characters like Akuma and Eliza, maybe practice some more with Heihachi, but when I decided to mess a bit with Yoshimitsu I couldn't help but want to play him more than the other characters I had in mind. I forgot how much I loved that rascal. He strikes that perfect mix of character design, gameplay, and personality. Badass with just the right amount of goofy.

when is the mail getting here...

You sure
Dragon Nest is a Def maybe more from T6 and TT2
But the Castle definitely is just alt version of Winter Palace
The roof has been in Tekken 5 or 6
So has the Jungle and the Ruins look like a revamp too.
And the dojo is a big yes.

Started out with eliza because of her meter and SF like cancels, but I'm also really liking kazumi; these fearless warrior combos are stylish as fuck. Also actual tiger uppercuts

Used to play hwoarang back in tekken 3, and asuka and hwoarang in tekken 5 (the only tekken I've played for an extended period of time), but I think I'm gonna stick with eliza and kazumi for this game. Had an interest in leo because baji quan is awesome, but not really clicking with her.

Got the game today and played a few rounds (PS4 Pro).
It looks awesome, even if i would love a higher resolution, or better image quality. It's still a very nice looking game. I'm sure the PC version looks incredible in 4K.

As I said, I just played a few rounds and it already feels awesome! :)
Love the additional visual features like the zooms and slow motion. Everything feels like it has a nice impact to it.
The upgraded hit-effects are looking very cool too.

Drago is fun to play but man is he boring to watch.

so does anyone else still getting issues in ranked mode? i haven't been able to play one match yet

At this point, it's safe to assume that if you are, we all are, if you are playing on the PS4. Might be congestion issues. Hopefully not, because if it is, that means they might just wait it out.

So I think I can confirm, after you've got all 3 parts of you character's mirror heist outfit you'll start fighting other characters at random. I got all 3 of Katarina's parts in 30 fights and then the 4th was Dragunov who gave part of his outfit.

It's interesting as I get older how vastly my views have changed. Maybe 10 years ago I would have agreed with you, but I am more fond of some of his later designs than I am of his 3. 2 is as boring as it gets. Nothing about it stands out and there is zero personality, IMO. The image depicts his P2 costume in T1 (which was good IMO). Speaking of P2, some of his P2 designs were better than the P1s. However, 7 and Tag 2 are incredible to me. I love them both dearly.

Yeah, different strokes of course. I prefer his understated designs. His modern stuff is very cluttered, and the T7 design makes him look like he's already wearing joke customization items. Yoshi is a ninja, he doesn't need to exude personality in his outfit; he already has plenty of personality just from his fighting style. But obviously the designers don't feel this way.

Yeah T5DR was amazing, but I am really liking the feel of T7. I'm not sure I'm down with the Rage Arts, as they really change the end game, and the excitement of seeing the super animation fades after the 10th time. Against the AI it's sort of an instant Win button, which I don't think helps new players really learn what to do in clutch situations.

Oh and maybe it's just me, but the jukebox volumes are all over the place.

T7 and maybe one or two other games have the music set to the right volume, but every other soundtrack is really quiet.

I think the OSTs were mastered at different volumes over the years. Modern music tends to be mastered with "slammed" levels so that it sounds loud. Unfortunately they didn't go back and normalize all the music to the same level. I hope it's something they fix, because it is hard to hear the older soundtracks. I don't know why they didn't catch this during production.

I have never tried that series, but I want to.

The reputation it has for being hard to learn is unfortunate and completely misleading. A good way to see what it's about it to get a copy of vf4 or vf4 evo for ps2 and play around with the kumite mode and guided training mode. Blows away any single player experience in any other fighting game.

Well i've finished the story ..
The last fight is some special kind of bullshit with the armor + unlimited rage drive.

Still
heihachi went on with a bang
with some quite needed explanation and retcon of tekken 1&2. But it's the good kind of retcon.
I don't mind that the main story didn't touch every character for this story. it would have been a mess otherwise.

I liked it

Akuma wasn't used enough IMO but that's ok. Kazumi should have been in more flashbacks
