TEKKEN 7 |OT| How I killed your mother

So for someone in an interest in fighting games, but with no experience whatsoever... I guess this is not the game for me ?

Many people in your exact situation right now, thats why this is the time to jump in and learn together. Good player base, and lots of new people to learn with, and the online resources are a ton.

Every player starts as a casual player, thats the way I started when I played Tekken Tag Tounament.

I thought game is so big, where to start, but I loved playing this one character (howarang) and just kept playing. Then next thing I knew I understood the game, and got hooked.

And thats Tekken. Just kinda play it then your hooked, it's that kinda game.

Good luck and if you want help so many resources:

Tekken Zaibatsu
Youtube: Level up your game --- Basic to Pro with King Jea --- Character overview https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nbewxse8DlI

There was also the top 15 monves of each character video but I dont have the link.

Becasue the DIRTY SECRET to Tekken is yes some characters have MASSIVE move list, but the reality each character only uses 10-15 moves in a match becuase their the best moves. Once you figure that out, it's such an easy game to learn.

How is the offline content? I really enjoyed the trashy stories of 90s fighters and having to unlock characters and stuff.

A story mode that's ehh. Side stories for most of the cast which is just 1 fight and then a shitty cinematic.

A Treasure battle mode which feels like an endless arcade mode where you unlock a customization option after each win and get some Fight Money.

A practice mode and a Versus mode.

The game is pretty bare bones in the SP content department.

Well there are no characters to unlock, but there is a lot of costume pieces/cosmetics to unlock. Story is there, but I don't think it is worth it to jump in at full price if you are just interested in the single player offerings.

They really should trim down Tekken movelists. It's such an intimidating barrier for no reason when pros don't even leverage it because there's actually 10-15 moves you use out of 100s. That was my experience with Lars with TTT2 at least.

Dude right? I double dipped and picked up the PC version as an afterthought just to give Namco some more love, but I've been on that more than I have on the PS4. It's just crazy good. For those who have the ability to, I would highly recommend getting this for PC over the PS4.

What's your steam ID?

They did this with sc5 and people just bitched about it.

If anybody from the Middle East or Singapore wants to play, quote me here. I'm on PS4 and located in Pakistan.

Might be able to play with some EU peeps too but it'd probably be a 3-bar connection.

Wait what there is no rematch option in player match online ? What is this nonsense ? Even in 1V1 we go back to the lobby ???

If you have never played a Tekken game before how lost would you be in story mode if you bought this?

Well when you unlock The previous games endings, and videos, you can get caught up. However I think Tekkens stories are best enjoyed in the mix of drama, silliness, ridiculousness and WTF moments.

I mean, I unlocked Tekken 2 ending last night for Yoshi, and there is this Chinese character with a look of " OMFG!!!" On his face while Yoshi making the money rain. Please somebody make a meme of this, it's hilarious

70 matches into treasure battle and I've had a grand total of no hairstyles, no glasses, no head items, and only 2 items for characters I actually use. The rest has been nothing but gag weapons and Bryan/Law items.

All I wanted was the rainbow hair for Lucky Chloe, but I've only seen 1 heist and now my rank is far higher than my actual skill level and I can't win with her. Considering deleting my save and starting again.

Eh...deleting the save seems a bit much. Try switching characters at least.

I've been playing a ton of treasure battle myself. The unlocks are...inconsistent. I unlocked the rainbow hair for Katarina very early on, but I still haven't gotten it with Josie despite playing more matches with her.

Someone posted this earlier, haven't tried it myself though.

Just ordered this and will arrive on Wednesday ..This if my first Tekken game (first one I'm going to take serious anyway)

Who's this game's glass cannon? I always gravitate towards the high risk/high reward characters like Akuma .I don't care how frustrated I get or how much I bitch about them I always stick with em..Is Akuma still like that in this? Is there anyone else similar?

Not sure. Anecdotally, I fought him playing as Master Raven with a couple of perfects and no losses on medium difficulty. I think that you have to finish the main story first though.

Edit: How did you get him? Wondering if it's random or you have to meet certain criteria.

I think it's totally random

Well I'm settling with Lili it seems. I've dabbled with her in the past and liked her but I wanted to try someone new...I'm not ready for that yet.

Its my kind of solo experience but I'm weird.

I enjoy unlocking the previous Tekken 1-6 stories. I enjoy unlocking all the treasure items while learning new characters.

Enjoy the story mode.

Enjoy unlocking the new character endings.

And my favorite is practice mode discovering how the character is made, unraveling the character to understand how they're supposed to be played.

Tons for player like me

Don't you only get the rainbow hair for the particular character you're using from heist battles though?

Honestly I don't know. I believe heist battles are the only way to get it, but do you only face heist battles against the character you are using or can anyone show up?

EDIT: seems like in the Tekken reddit sub people are saying they got rainbow hair for characters other than the one they were using.

In regards to move lists, I've found this page pretty helpful. It lists what they feel are the 15 most important moves for each character complete with frame data and a quick description as to what the move is used for.

https://drunkardshade.com/2017/05/27/tekken-7-top-15-moves-for-all-characters/?cn=ZmF2b3JpdGU=

I sent a PM to Miku to have it added to the OP. Not sure if people will keep missing it, but it's been posted on almost every page and i think it should have way more visibility than a random post. It's really useful for those overwhelmed by the 100+ movelists for nearly every character.

Character you're using it seems.

I've done 5 heists battles as Claudio and it's always been another Claudio.

A lot stuff is shared too.

Well congratulations! You got yourself caught!

Treasure Battle is the only meaningful offline content. Basically Survival mode mixed with ghost battle in the older games and you win gear for each victory. Every now and then a modifier or special challenge shows up like double damage or a special boss for rare loot.

The rest of the modes are quick one-and-done deals that won't last beyond an initial play for 99% of players. Story mode has moments but will only take you a couple hours to see it all. The character endings that were so beloved in past Tekken games are practically muted in this game sadly and are not attached to Arcade mode.

It is a really fun fighting game though and Treasure battle is kind of all you need IMO. But online is entirely broken on PS4 and thus a single mode is literally all I feel I can do on day 2 of release. :(

Best feature of SC5. I thought most of the criticism was about the roster (lack of fan favourites and boring replacements for Taki et al) and lack of content.

I've mostly played newcomers in T7 and I think those have relatively small move sets.

I might be rarer, but at least on the reddit sub it seems like it is possible to fight a heist battle against another character. Maybe you need to get everything for the character you are using first? I don't know.

I've only fought 2 myself and they were both for the character I was using.

It happened to me after around a hour

There's a summary video for each of the numbered entries in the gallery, unlocked out of the gate. Shouldn't take more than 15 minutes to watch them all.

Here are some character overviews:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nbewxse8DlI

Also there is a video floating around showing characters top 15 moves is good too. I keep forgetting to grab that link lol

Personally if I had to think a glass cannon, I would say Paul Phoenix. Akuma is also. Game is very well-balanced, so it's kind a hard to identify an over power character, with little life.

Tekken doesn't work like that, all characters have the same amount of life. Hence one of the reasons why it's so well balanced.

It's more down to the player ability of positioning(spacing), reflexes, and mind games.

EDIT: seems like in the Tekken reddit sub people are saying they got rainbow hair for characters other than the one they were using.

Maybe it happens after you've got all the rainbow chest unlocks for that character. I guess I've nothing to lose by trying that Katarina trick, it's too hard to cheese out a win with Chloe now.

At the very least, does anyone know if the heist battles only show up after a win streak, or could you potentially just exit and re-enter treasure battles until you trigger a heist?

Nah.

That's what helps Tekken standout. Pro players only use certain moves but for most casuals and just anyone else, the large moveset allows for more personal freedom. Unlike a lot of other fighters, where everybody's hitting the same moves with the same structure, Tekken's not like that. You can create your own combo in the lab and use a different set of moves that most players won't use and still be viable considering with Tekken, the combos you have aren't what'll get you to the world championship. You and your homie can both play Paul but neither of you fight anything close to the same. It's all about options and diversity.

this game's so fun

i wanna try out miguel in addition to asuka but I already have trouble keeping one character's options in my head let alone another one that has a stance change to boot

still gonna do it but i gotta space out my playtime with the two

one thing I learned from sfv: taking away options sucks
