TEKKEN 7 |OT| How I killed your mother

Agreed. Seeing the cutscenes from past games as they fought brought that battle to another level.

Holy shit the end of the story.
Super Devil Kazuya was some bullshit, but actually pretty easy once you understood the gimmick, it just took me a long time to figure out.

That whole last chapter was amazing though, with the flashbacks and everything, and the end of it. Fucking chills.

It was like the end of MGS4, a fitting end to an amazing character. In this world of devils and other bullshit, Heihachi was just a fucking dude.
The music, the multiple layers to the fight, that final hit was on some "Gohan kills Cell with the Kamehameha" level epicness. Man, honestly I'm being real. I don't think I've seen a major gaming death to a legacy character that's been that great in a very very long time. Just amazing.

Do I win a prize for talking about my penis on the Internet???
That's the most fun I've had playing through the story mode of a fighting game..probably ever.

And yes the
throwback CGI cutscenes were sooo good and perfectly timed

So, quick feelings so far:

Josie: My "welcome back to Tekken!" attempt. I don't like the button flow of a lot of her stuff, it just feels odd, and not intuitive. I can definitely learn it, and I have fun with her, but she's not clicking.

Kazumi: "Welcome back to Tek- naa, you have projectile Tigers!" - She has some of that Mishima simplicity, stuck on Mishima stuff that's accomplished with different controls. I don't feel like it's that natural to get people into a juggle-capable state with her, but it's fun to juggle once they're there. A midpoint of 3D and 2D-ish ideals. Push 2 buttons to TIGER.

Eliza: "Doshita?! Doshita?! SHIN'E!" ... So, I can't stand Akuma as a character (bleh), but I do like how they adapted his playstyle into Tekken. Eliza is just a goofy, fun chara, but with possibly even better 2D-like controls than Akuma. BEING ABLE TO CANCEL ATTACKS INTO COMMAND SPECIALS FEELS RIGHT! *ahem* She seems to kinda suck at lows, but she's so needlessly fancy off simple to do stuff, and she has so many combos / strings that lead into easy-to-tag launchers. She's the most that feels like a KoF X Virtua Fighter character, in that I can discover what to do with her mid-battle, have no problem applying it, and all without having to look up some semi-convoluted string of button / direction presses.

So even though I wanna like others right now, Eliza is the only one that's totally feeling right. Makes me feel like I'm gettin' back into Tekken... but not really?
----

Speaking of presses, I'm really kinda surprised how "Dial-A-Combo" a lot of this game feels. Much like with the 10 hits, there's a lot of pre-pressing to go through a move, rather than pressing the next button on / near hit. I just played some Virtua Fighter 5 FS the other day on 360 Back-Compat, so I don't think it's a 3D-fighter issue. The buffers in this game just seem quite different than I'm used to. Is this on purpose?

Overall, I'm enjoying it, but the lame or poorly fit custom items, the lack of victory / milestone music (Though cool fight intros), the overall lower-quality music of 7 compared to past entries (I like Claudio's stage, however), and the difficulty of finding charactersthat fit like a glove, has me not as hype as I'd like to feel.

I do like having a 3D fighter to play at that's modernish and recent again, and I feel like I have a LOT of learning to do, so I do look forward to it.

Oh, and is there anywhere to view replays? Everything has this recently, but I can find no record of my fights anywhere in this game. I wanna send "GG" messages on PS4, but the system makes it harder to do this than it should be...

Tekken is not known for it's story telling lol.

I never said it was. Just that I always found the Arcade endings to be great whilst I found the story mode in 7 boring outside of a few cool things. You could have had the final story mode fight done in the same way at the end of arcade mode and you wouldn't have lost anything of worth
other than maybe the T5 Jack battle

Katarina trick?

Set your right kick button to your confirm button and mash/turbo it in treasure battle. Her 444 does like 35% to the cpu and they get hit by it far more often than they should. She can win you gold and items without you having to play. I got Katarina to Suzaku rank by leaving my stick and game on overnight.

Oh, okay. Thanks.

Not really the same, but you can cheese the AI with Miguel's Back + 4. You can't just mash it, but the CPU will run right into it 99% of the time.

So the online is still borked for me.

It finds me opponents then it tells me the connection with the person is lost.

I get that enough IRL now it's gotta happen to me in Tekken?!

Lmaoooo, GameStop was advertising Eliza on their website (and even a keyring they didn't have), so I pre-ordered the Deluxe PS4 version, and I got to pick it up today, installs it and sees that there's no Eliza. So I basically have to pay up for Eliza in 30 days, that's bullshit. I did get my Season Pass and metallic costumes.

So I did like ten rounds of usf4 with some guys at round one. I have the game installing now. I'm going to get some dinner and get into this.
If this sticks, my gaming schedule going to get all messed up. T7 was not on my radar at all until yesterday.

If you entered the code, go to "Purchase History" on the PSN store and download it to your PS4. That's what I had to do.

The Season Pass code?

Oh, the Eliza code wasn't in your case? I'm assuming the Deluxe edition is the same as the Day 1 with the Season Pass code added.

Start up Match List. Wait around. Accept any match that comes up.

It takes like five fucking minutes to find something but at least I sometimes get fights.

Agreed again on all counts. While others may gripe about some things, I honestly feel like the nailed this one out of the park. That's me saying that with the fact that Jun was missing from this. But again considering the direction we're looking at in the future, I feel that her return at that time would be more significant than it would be here.

Lucky Chloe and Eddy lore is legit hilarious
Now i don't hate on her as much

LC showing her true colors was something else. Too bad she doesn't show that off in her win animations.

Story is literally what happens if Michael Bay directed a fighting game. Story is typical nonsense with Hollywood special effects and cool fights.

I can't stand fighters where bosses are artificially raised in difficulty. Akuma from ST still remains the best hardest fighting game boss because he was smart to fight against, not cheap.

The quick answer is yes it's done on purpose.

The long answer:

Tekken is not best played by dialing the combos, you can do it, but your going to just be a mediocre player at best.

Tekken is best played with out spacing (better position) your opponent, making them whiff so you can punish their bad spacing choice. Poking your opponent (Street fighter calls these footsies). And using that poking to set-up your launchers, and or use poking for better spacing or guard advantages.

As I said you can dial a combo...

But then you're not maximizing your effectiveness. As some combos you should only do the first part, so you can cancel the next part into a different move or into another different Combo. It all depends how quick the recovery is in the combo for you to mix and match and be creative to play the way you want to play.

Some of the faster recovery Combos are ment for poking. And you'll know what is fast recovery versus slow recovery just by doing the combo. And stop in the middle of a combo, the ones that recover fast in the middle, are the one's to use for poking and mixing things up. For the juggles thats when the dial-a-combo really comes into effect. The purpose is as the Director Harada says (I'm paraphrasing here: "In our test when a player does a juggle their enjoyment of the game is at it's peak, so we want to have juggles that are accessible to all players")

Most of the slow recovery combos are more designed for juggles. So these combos are ment to be easy, for player enjoyment, however if you just doing the combo without thinking about how the opponent lands, where they land, are they face up when they land or face down etc. then your missing the important nuance and the higher levels of play in the juggle system.

Or juggles where you could try and do that maximum damage, but decide instead to do an easy juggle because you know you can land the easier juggle 99% of the time as opposed to the harder juggle 70% of the time.

Or juggles that purposely stop early landing the opponent at your feet, so now the opponent has to decide how to get up, and if they get up wrong you get another juggle this time for even more damage.

For the fast recovery combos that recover in the middle of the combo, use those as pokes. And explore such as "Brocken Rhythm" that is making combos Rhythum slower or stopped completely to go into a different string-of-combos. This Brocken Rhythum makes opponents want to interrupt, but its a risk for them to do it. (And a risk for you too, but a reward for who ever executes better, better reflexes, or set-ups you have developed, and who plays the better mind games etc.)

I know the answer is a bit long and I could add a little more information, but I hope this answers your question.

Treasure battle gets to be a real bummer at higher ranks when you've cut through a lot of the cosmetics. Giving me 10,000 gold might as well be giving me nothing.

TGO

Hype Train conductor. Works harder than it steams.
Is she particularly annoying to fight in regards to her moveset? Or is it just a bunch of salty peeps screeching "FUCKING WEEBS".

I see people hate her everywhere
Her moves are kinda like Eddy Gordo's
She had all those spinning kicks and flips
So that and the cutie taunting is probably it.
I like her better than Eddy tho

If this sticks, my gaming schedule going to get all messed up. T7 was not on my radar at all until yesterday.

Same here, was totally playing shooters. I have left the fields of fighters for a long time. Just nothing to interest me...

Then I played some Tekken more out of a weird sense of obligation to friends and what not, and just to see if it was any good.

Now I'm stuck at work, usually I day dream about getting back to play my shooters...

But today I'm day dreaming about getting some more Tekken play in, lol I'm loving this game.

Yeah, putting aside the questionable mechanics of the fights, the parts with Heihachi were great. I didn't enjoy that ending much simply because I wanted Kazuya to die instead, but it was certainly a spectacle. The best scene of the story for me was Heihachi sitting in the chair with the samurai armor behind him, it looked great.

Kazumi felt very underused; I was expecting her to come back as some demon spirit to finish off the Mishimas. But they pushed her aside to force Akuma into the plot. I wanted to know much more about her, but we got almost nothing.

So is this game coming to Switch? I know there was a rumor going around, but there hasn't(?) been any news recently.

Hmmm looking how the game runs on XB1 Im not sure how well the game would do on Switch. XB1 gets up to 40 seconds of loading from what I hear and runs at 720p and has effects softened up. If it happens I would expect a lower resolution.

Isn't it like 60 GB? That might be a limiting factor.

They can cut the gallery cutscenes and probably compress audio and other things more. Its not impossible but it would be pretty butchered tbh. If anything throw some Nintendo stuff like they did on Wii U TTT2 and call it a day.

They could downgrade the textures, particles, lighting and everything a lot. If Namco got Tekken 6 to run on PSP they can do anything.

Eliza was a code/DLC. If it wasn't inside your game, check your receipt.

Other preorder bonuses were first come, first serve. Call the store to ask if the employee forgot of said bonus, or if they just ran out.

Tempted to do this, but I'm on PC and probably shouldn't set up AutoHotKey for this while connected online.
