Yeah, learning Hwoarang from scratch has been challenging ;( But I am getting better, I think.

Watching Aris right now, and he thinks that the chart is a bit misleading. He argues that getting the Tekken fundamentels down is the real challenging part for a newbie, and that that will be regardless of character. So you should choose the character that looks most fun to you since the challenges will still be the same for every character on that level.

Used to play Jun, Asuka, Wang, Michelle, etc. Now playing Eliza, Josie, Kazumi.

I don't remember it being as prevalent outside of those 10 hits / combo throws. It could very well because I was playing characters that feel different than those now, too.

I guess this is the bad feeling of not being able to play a new iteration with an old favorite. I don't usually lose this many favorite characters between game releases.

Yeah believe me, I feel you. I've either mained or had as a backup Lei in every Tekken game (since 2), so that hurts.

As a former Jun and sometimes Asuka player myself, I might recommend trying Xiaoyu. I don't feel like her combos have as much input delay, probably because many of her moves have quick animations. She's not easy because of the amount of moves and stances, but if you can play Jun then you should be okay.

I think I might feel more like old Tekken if I just go back to Asuka. Most of who I have to compare to doesn't exist in this iteration yet, unfortunately. I still really loved the way much of the Tekken crew felt in SFxT... I wonder if that's messing up what I think "Tekken" timing is, too...

Yeah I understand. Timing is everything. I was playing Jin earlier trying to see if I could still do his 10-strings from a decade ago and while I pulled it off the timing really hits you. We play Tekken for so long we just get used to the timing and everything but when you really see it for yourself it does throw you off. It's just something you just gotta get used to with the rhythm similar to an NRS game.

Do they appear greyed out in the customization menu or are they hidden? I don't see Kazumi's in the menu at all.

Some stuff seems to be hidden and some shows up on the list. I do wonder how long it will take to unlock everything.

He's right.

With Tekken just play who looks the most fun and right for you. Check out physical appearance, style, movement, usability when it comes to "can I actually perform this command", mess around in the lab too. Just make up your own combos, figure things out for yourself. Eventually you'll understand if you wanna use them or not.

I never look at a tier list with Tekken and yet I always end up doing pretty well.

So, how viable does Lucky Chloe seems? Seems like she can mix up decently out of her, low, high twirl stuff. Although she's easy to parry if someone keeps at it though.

i just need to play one ranked match for the plat

Haha that's sad when something that simple is the only thing you need for a Plat. Dammit bamco, fix this shit.

Yeah I agree, but it hasn't always been that way in Tekken. But 7 has really evened the playing field, probably in no small part due to the lengthy time between arcade and console release that they've had to do balancing.

I thought every custimization option could be purchased in the store please dont tell me gamers have to rely on frakking RNG to get the item? I am getting tired of every game getting overrun with random loot

but granted this is just vanity items so maybe not too big of a deal actually lol

ROFl and we have the Street Fighter V issue all over again.
Two tournies entered, wasted my time waiting and waiting, got to the semis.
When the host did not make it they dropped the room.

So.. does anyone know how the ranking system work here? And what is the highest possible rank in both online and offline modes? Is it Tekken God?

Tried to learn Josie for a bit. Not really feeling her arsenal... Don't know who else to play with besides King. :/

Wow, that's some bullshit, sorry that happened to you.

Namco should host the tournaments on their servers so it will remain regardless; having one person's connection/ego be responsible for success or failure of the tournament is silly.

A large majority requires unlocking via treasure chests. It's not a huge issue since 1 win guarantees at least a box.

Netcode is dope. The issue is the matchmaking.

It's awesome which is crazy since the matchmaking is ass.

Interesting. I read some say it's trash and some say it's good, so was confused. Maybe they're just meaning the connection stuff

It's fine until it goes to shit even slightly, delay based netcode makes for a stuttering mess.
But it's good otherwise.

Ah, so it's not rollback. I don't think delay works as well in a game like tekken

ugh so it is rng. well at least it is only vanity items. guess they want that extra hook to keep people playing for a long time so they can continue to sell more DLCs

Decided to try another character, played around with Josie for a couple hours. She's a solid contender for main, lot more going for her than Lucky Chloe that's for sure.

So sad to see no Lei! I could see no Forest and Marshall, but Shouldn't we have a Jackie Chan to go with a Bruce Lee? (-_-)

Anywho, cool, I might really have to try Ling this time. She never wowed me in old Tekken, but this isn't old Tekken! I used to love playing *everyone* in a roster, but actually mastering characters to Online-Wins level is much different than goofing off with local friends...

Yeah, it feels really weird when you get used to the rhythm of other games. Like I LOVE how long I feel I can take to decide if I want to cancel to a command normal on block in a KoF. Instantly, and it might be a block string. A little slower, and it still keeps the hit property of a "combo'd" command normal, but comes out later, serving as a cancellable frame trap. Even longer, and it might come out as a normal naked command normal, gaining special counter hit properties, but losing the ability to be cancelled.

It's really weird to feel the NRS comparison (an apt one, though), because I generally think of this odd cancel stuff to be pretty bad FG design. But here we have a really well refined iteration of Tekken doing it, and it's... so far from what I expect, lol. I DO see the method behind their madness here, though.

Ah well, fun times lie ahead!

It's been about a day and I haven't t had an online match yet. Sessions keep dropping. Im never buying a game on launch again. This is the stupidest fucking hobby I swear.

Either I'm just to damn old and slow for this game or this King multi grab moves timing is really strict. I'm watching the demo of it and hitting the button combo at the same time as the demo, but can't get this move out consistently.

Anyone on PS4 try King's move below:

Full Crouch+1+2, 3+4, 1+2

The bolded (stretch combo) is what is refusing to come out consistently. I've done it like 3 times the past half hour. All three times it felt like I was pushing 1+2 at slightly different times which is majorly confusing.

I've tried the 1+2 using face buttons and using a shoulder button and there isn't a difference in consistency.

I don't have much to say about that throw, but if you haven't looked into button buffering for King's throws you should, they make them so much easier. Unfortunately it won't work for that throw.

edit: Lol speak the of the devil, Aris is going over King throws and buffering.

I can't wait for the soundtrack to get a proper release, I think this might be the best Tekken soundtrack yet. They're really leaning into the aggro drum & bass/dubstep stuff TT2 dabbled in, which some old school Tekken fans might not like but I'm REALLLLLY into it. Really good over-the-top fight music.

Lucky Chloe is... surprisingly fun. She's like a good mix of Xiaoyu & Eddy, but feels completely unique. My only problem with her is that the Left Twist stance seems weak. There's a long delay after entering it and pretty much any move can beat every follow-up. It looks like you can bait out launchers with it if you hold back, so that's pretty useful.
Anyone know any good King players on YouTube or Twitch? Trying to learn as much as I can about his moveset.

Triple H and MBC are the best King players.
