Ohh, so you played against my brother :)

I haven't really played Tekken in a while. I hope I'm not too rusty yet :p

I was rusty myself and he had a good Lee. Give him a couple of matches and he will get used to my playstyle and body me like everyone else is doing.
We had some awesome matches.

Bro, it's Tekken. We all are socially awkward!

lol, I guess so.

I might be going today or tomorrow. Pictures from Harada's twitter are showing pretty crowded areas. Hoping that means it's a success and we're getting an official arcade release.

Well I'm heading out to meet up with a friend over there now. I should be there in about an hour, or an hour and thirty.

Very sad to hear about Iwata. RIP. :(

Aa far as Tekken 7 goes, the game is pretty fun. Coming off of Tag 2, the SS feels as stiff as it looks in the videos, but make no mistake about it, SS is NOT useless. You just have to actually time them much bettee now and you won't get too many launches after them. On the train now. I'll post more when I get home.

Iwata is 10 years younger than my father....really reminds you how death can happen to anyone at anytime and I really should remind the people that I care about how much I cherish them. RIP man,

About T7 did you feel any difference in the input lag? I know it's impossible for anyone to tell without proper technology, but do you feel T7 has the same phantom frame of lag that TTT2 incurred?

Nice. I will be trying to take the train to Penn tomorrow (probably). The only thing annoying me is my lack of stick experience.

Btw, how many people were at the Tekken 7 machines? I'm hoping to not run into long lines when I get the chance to go there. Though, long lines would be indicative of success for this dying arcade model so I"ll be happy either way I guess.

I only got to play 3 matches before Dave & Busters closed down, but they felt pretty lagless overall. The one thing that happened during a match versus Liquid is that at the start of one of the rounds, there was a random lag spike right when the round started. It was a quick spike and went away quickly. It definitely sucks, but this shouldn't be an issue once console hits anyway.

Tonight was just me, my friend, Liquid, Reno, Devil Himself, and a dude that moved here recently from ATL. Spero Gin and Brian H were there when we got there, but they left soon after. The matches moved along really quick, so the wait wasn't too bad. Plus we spent most of the time between matches just catching up and talking about the game. Reno did say that Saturday was packed up like crazy though. If this is anything like the Chinatown Fair days, then Friday and Saturday are probably going to be the super heavy traffic days.

So here are some more impressions...

- To go in further on the sidestepping stuff, your sidesteps have to be timed almost at the last second as opposed to before where certain linear moves could be sidestepped with just about zero timing. Whoever mentioned it kind of being like Virtua Fighter was actually on point. Since you have to sidestep so late, and you can't cancel sidestep into a move as quick as you used to, this kind of eliminates a lot of situations where someone could hit you wit a SS into launch. Unless of course you whiff something HUGE.

- I played as Dragunov. He feels exactly the same.

- Throw break window is pretty much what it was in TR, which I appreciate greatly. The one thing that really surprised me was that it appears that you can get CH out of throw attempts. I'm not 100% sure on this, but there were instances where Reno would use magic 4 with Law, or Shaheen's 4,1 and score CH out of throw attempts. He certainly noticed it. Sadly, we didn't get a chance to really test it tonight. I don't know if this is already common knowledge, but if it isn't, I'll try to test it further the next time I go.

- I'm not too sure how much it cost per game. I just bought a $25 card and played a few matches with that. The people I spoke to thinks it was about $1 a match though.

- Devil Himself was telling us that he heard that this location test is only going to be about a month. I have no idea if this is actually true, but I figure I would mention it just in case.

- We're still unsure about this, but a lot of us felt that a lot of moves had more pushback on block than they used to. There's going to be a whole lot of doing something on block to bait CHs and whiffs in this game.

- Overall, the game is pretty fun. It's a super pretty version of TR without the invincible moves and random criticals. The movement changes seem to mean a lot less abuse of option select movements that turn 90% of set ups into gimmicks, so the offensive flow is overall stronger. I do feel that all of these throw nerfs went a bit too far. We'll see how it ends up in the final version.

So yeah, that's that. The cool thing is that this Dave & Busters is a block away from my job, so I'll probably stop by for a few matches during my work days.

Thank you for the impressions Manny. Was the cab single-monitor side by side, or dual monitor?

And throws leading to counterhit would be a big deal if true. But the throw changes really make me not want to play any character that doesn't have command throws that require all of the 3 breaks. So that takes out all of the new characters including Josie since they took out her Bruce multi-throws.

Side by side cabinets.

I forgot to mention, Jin's EWHF does not give him a tailspin later in the juggle because the initial hit counts as a tailspin. This might be common knowledge, but I figure I'd still share it anyway.

Just going off twitter but was Ultrachen really not going to do a T7 Evo segment until Bloodhawk stepped in? I mean, I remember their crappy SCV Evo segment, but geez...

They were, Rip was originally going to join them but he was running late because of Comic Con so they were just gonna improvise whatever they knew. You'll see at the beginning of this video UD literally tells Rip "You missed your chance"when BloodHawk was already on the call.

Awesome. Thanks for impressions. I had to can my plans for NYC last minute today. House work came up. Will try again tomorrow or Thursday. It's good. Gives me more time to try stick.

As far as stick goes, I put in SFIV and I am doing hadoukens and shoryukens like it's nothing. I go back to Tekken and qcf attacks on 2p side are fine but 1p side is a pain.

Plus, I'm doing the dragon punch motion for shoryukens and they're coming out fine but doing the kick attack with dragon punch motion and it's not working half the time.

All so weird.

At the NYC DnB. nycfab, bloodhawk, and renokon are here. Renekon is on a 8 win streak with Claudio. I was able to get 2 rounds on him but then got rekt by his shoeshine and reverse orbital lol.

I'm gonna get wrecked regardless because stick is the only option. :/

So jelly right now.

Saw that Namco panel and all that art looked real nice. Hope they upload the images soon.
Every concept image of Yoshi looked sick enough to be official and all the Gigas ones looked real bad.

Reno is the guy who eliminated from the last Toryuken tournament. I got 3-0'd :( Although every match was 3-2 rounds and I dropped hella combo's everywhere especially the last match where I dropped my game winning combo.

EDIT:
Man.... LC was just getting worse and worse with every iteration they went through with the concept artist (skip the Ono part)

That's just terrible game design.

SS is already appropriately difficult to use in TTT2.It takes months of actual practice and knowledge to pull off SS in TTT2.

Making it so stiff and unrewarding is just flat out terrible and they deserve all the criticism they'll get for this decision.

Wow, just heard on Rip's stream that JFJ stayed in his car for four days just so he could play T7 at Comic-Con all weekend long. With two other guys in the car. x.x

Getting that Yoshimitsu practice in, I see.
So he can be EVO 2015 champion.

Holy crap dammit.... I was reading Famicom's post and I could only see this:

Wow, just heard on Rip's stream that JFJ stayed in his car for four days .... x.x

And my brain automatically thought something happened to James like what happened to that woman who slept in her car.

But man... hope he can make that money back with Namco distributing that 30K accross the top 32 or top 16. Still don't feel any American has a chance at top 8. My guess for Top 8:

JDCR, Saint, Nobi, Yu, Zekusu, Take, Pekoso, Double

So the people here that play (or have played) both Tekken and SF on stick. Do you have to diversify hand/finger qcf motions between the two games? I am doing hadokens with ease on both 1p and 2p side. Back to Tekken and I'm messing up constantly. :/

AAK

The timing of the move is different I believe. SF is far more generous with its inputs where you can press the punch button pretty late after the qcf motion.

Just hold the joystick in the fashion that's most comfortable for you. everybody has their own way, there's no optimal method IMO.

This is how JDCR holds his joystick:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=owv11JIMBo4

I rest my entire hand & wrist on the stick and try to make the most minute movement as possible just because that's what's the most comfortable for me.

It's all practice in the end... just try to do simple stuff in practice mode. Pick a character like Alisa for example. Just practice simple things like doing a sidestep into a d/f+2. ONLY do that motion by itself until you can get the motion down 10 times consecutively. Then move to another move like a dash forward into a d/f+4 poke. Keep practicing that until you can get it 10 consecutive times. Rinse and repeat for different variations while increasing in complexity and your muscles will automatically remember the motions. Once you feel comfortable in those basics try to practice defense. Try to set up the computer to do something like Devil Jin's Laser cannon (b,f+2,1,2) and practice Sidestepping the last hit of the string to your right and launching DJin. Focus on maneuvering first.

Yeah, I'm holding the stick in the wine glass motion like ZTS mentioned. Particularly, I'm only using my middle finger, index finger, and thumb thanks to this Gootecks tutorial.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IXP0kc9Sry8#t=2m20s

I'll keep doing what you mentioned AAK but learning stick is just very tedious. I don't know why I have to learn all these different motions and vary them based on 1p or 2p side when qcf is just a simple thumb swipe on a pad.

Does stick offer any particular advantage over pad I'm not aware of?

AAK

Member
It's all preference... no advantage for either. Stick is simply an advantage for those that prefer it while pad is an advantage to those who prefer pad.

But outside of gameplay:
1) Stick is overall more durable than pad so less chance of it breaking.
2) It causes less inflammation on the thumb. Maybe it's because of how I play Pad but I get major blisters on my thumb after a long session.

EDIT:

Also, for the challenged people like myself who can't hold a controller properly and play claw style... playing claw style on pad is faster way of developing carpel tunnel unfortunately so stick is better for me in that regard as well.

Are you still planning on going up to D&B this Thursday? I'm a pad player myself and have never used stick a day in my life! Depending on what time you go up there I'd be more than happy to play some games with you!

I'm thinking about taking the first flight out to NYC then taking the last flight back home. lol. So I'll probably be up there from 11am-3pm on Thursday.

My plans keep getting ruined but I think I am more likely to be there Wednesday than Thursday. But I'll let you know if I switch to Thursday. It's been kind of a hectic week.

So excited to play this game, though. I'll be spending a lot of time there whenever I get the chance to go.

Ohh that's okay! I'm bringing my twin brother along with me so I have someone to verse but if you decide to go up there Thursday just let me know. ^_^

I'm flying in from Ohio to play this game, needless to say I'm pretty excited!

Hmm, I don't recall any differences with QCF motions between the two games. I do recall having some issues getting certain QCF moves to come out properly in Tekken, specifically Drag's QCB+2. His QCF+2 is so easy right? Well it's easier because QCF is his crouch dash, and QCF+2 is a move that comes out of the crouch dash. The leniency on it is very wide with regards to when the 2 is pressed after the QCF. QCB+2 though, Drag has no QCB "stance" so the input is more strict on pressing the B and the 2 together. Basically, keep the last direction of the input held when you press the button. You can apply that logic to any motion in the game, including (especially) F,F ones.

Of course this is all assuming you're doing the QC motions correctly in the first place, though I don't know why you wouldn't be. If it's not mechanical, it's mental. Just gotta practice through it.

Does stick offer any particular advantage over pad I'm not aware of?

I made the switch from pad after getting tired of having my thumbs rubbed raw after hours long sessions of fighting games. Stick is just way easier on my hands, and the extra button real estate is great. Plus I derive some satisfaction in using it as if I'm learning a musical instrument. As it applies to Tekken, it probably takes about as much work.

Yeah, too bad. I didn't have much time left either because I had to go and eat, but I had a few matches with av2k. Good games Numb.
Good games av2k. You're as crazy of a player as I remember :D
It did feel like I managed to play a lot better against you than last time though. And the lag wasn't horrible. The only problem was the inconsistent 1-3 bar connection.

ThankYou for everything you've done for the Tekken scene all this time MarkMan. The scene would only be a fraction of the size it is without your intervention. Unless you were involved, Tekken would never have gotten any exposure in these major 2D events and it was instrumental in keeping the series relevant in the FGC.

Enjoy your time with your Daughter :)
