People saying VF5 has smoother movement have me puzzled as VF has always been very digital about it. Either you can sidestep a move or you don't and the angle you're in really doesn't matter. It's easier to understand for sure but I don't really think it's smoother.

Because games like VF and SC keep movement basic and very 1:1. In VF, you tap side step, it registers an attack that doesn't track, you side step. No ifs, ands, or buts about it. In SC, your character moves at what appears to be full speed when you sidestep or hold back.

In Tekken, specifically before TR, holding back or forward makes your character do this weird shuffle step that looks like they are moving through quickstand. Backdashing without canceling forces your character to stand still for a very deliberately long amount of time. Sidestepping has these weird rules in place where maybe this character can do it here, but he can't because his stance makes his hitbox too wide, or she can because she's super skinny, or this move tracks in this direction against everyone except these few characters.

This is what some people like to see and praise it as depth. I call it what it is. Arbitrary. People like a concrete rule set in fighting games. People only like to think about 100 things while playing a match, not 1,000,000 things. The new backwalk animation is a step in the right direction, but it still needs more in my opinion.

I don't think VF is perfect either. I personally had that same "abstract" feeling when I had to fight characters like Leon and Shun Di in VF as well. But yes, I do agree that Tekken goes a bit too far into it. I learned to cope with it, but that thing can be vital to getting new players.

Or you could just do Solo in TTT2 and I can join in as well lol.

Sorry about yesterday, roommates were sleeping and I was just having boutdown show me some stuff in practice mode. Next time.

Are you going to switch mains again for Tekken 7?

I plan to :)

Damn, the game looks prettier to me everytime I see it. That LC/Shaheen fight looked gorgeous. Shaheen also looked more interesting than in the last video. Now I'm sure that I will main him and Hwoarang.
LC's rage arts is a low and deals a ton of damage... She might as well scream "hate me" whenever she attacks.

Shun is the 1, count it, one, really abstract character that VF has. Lion still very much follows the same rulseset that every other character follows. He just has stronger lows than the rest of the cast. Perhaps what throws you off is his guard break and ability to force you into sideturned (which is a far better designed situation than Tekken's side/backturned nonsense) with a low?

I guess that's the full damage for doing whatever rythm input is required, the non-punch ending doesn't do nearly as much.

I never liked VF's digital movement especially hilarious sidestep into pkg that let's you zoom through corners. Tekken feels more natural, I rather have control of every frame of sidestep then just frame hybrid that evades every move that isn't tracking.

Both series need to go back to freeform movement from VF3 and TK4.

The lighting in that new market stage is gorgeous. I still haven't got over the amazing cloth physics in this game.

Noice!

Of course we love Tekken here, that's why online is always busy.

Maybe some bonus for us Harada? (
Kill Chloe
)

I there stream archive?

Eh those Shaheen kicks look cartoony. :/ Make Lars look like he fights realistically.

Reminds how they totally butchered Raven's animations after T5DR. I play DR almost daily and there he has incredibly smooth and great looking animations, "life like" even if all weren't motion captured. Then look at T6 and Tag2 - omg it's like night and day. Awful awkward, deformed and halfassed new move animations and they even managed to ruin the old animations somehow. It's like if some high budget anime had it's second season made by 1/10 of the budget and professional animators replaced by bunch of bored class students.

Ok I'm joking, Shaheen isn't that badly animated. But still cartoony.

That's pretty cool about the Tekken 5 stage changing from 5.0 to DR in round 3. Hope in the future they can patch a transition in round 2.

Asim is really good, but nobody is going to fly over to play him for less than the price of the plane ticket.

Lion-o's beard is godlike. He's he asian Brian Blessed

Apparently the stakes were raised to $1000. But yeah, it's too short notice, I doubt he'll make it.

Yeah point taken.

Although the forcing side turned thing in VF is a concept pretty foreign in Tekken. In VF the frame data completely changes for strikes done on a side-turned opponent rather than Tekken where everything is consistent there. That alone makes learning the side turned things super important to learn in VF to maximize damage. But dang, talking about VF is making me itch to go back to it.

I love free character DLC the most but I can live without. They probably won't support the game for long after launch, just like Tag 2. But I'm fine with the DLC being costumes and probably customization parts.

You guys saw those Camera and slo mo mini vids Wonkey posted on twitter?

giphy.gif

Boom!

I noticed in this build they replaced Kaz's df+1,2 so the 2 is now db+2 and not the hook. It's in Shasheen demo too.

And Paul has a new move, vertical hook/uppercut.

Very happy they are adding new moves.

I feel that Harada would ask me to pay for Law nunchucks, or a Law dragon mask, or a soup hat.

Buy all of this BS cosmetic shit for $4.99

marshall-law-t5dr-custom.jpg

So what would you prefer?

Law Tekken 1 classic costumes $0.99

law-tekken1renders.JPG

Tekken 5 costume $0.99

Tekken 2 costume $0.99

I don't think that will happen

I like your idea.

It could happen because I think they still have all the rights to those costumes. Apart maybe of that T5 because it was made by manga author?

Speaking of those. Give me:

j8IbMBqKJXFXt.jpg

Btw you gave me an idea.

What would you guys say if apart of costumes they'll offered whole alternative models of characters as dlc (model swaps)?

Like young Paul from Tekken 2, of course high quality.

That's the type of stuff I don't really want to get into because I could talk about it all day. The problem is that it's such a good idea and I don't think it would happen. I feel like we should tweet Harada this stuff even though he might ignore it.

Someone translate this stuff to Japanese and shorten it to 140 characters

I could go through a list of characters that go back as far as Tekken 4 and point out like at least 4 costumes for each one.

I just hope the cosmetic DLC is priced reasonably. Like, allow me to buy everything for everyone for $30, like in Virtua Fighter 5: Final Showdown. If it's significantly more than what VF's item count was, then I'll be willing to pay more. I just don't want to be nickel-and-dimed. I felt nickel-and-dimed with SCV's cosmetic DLC releases, especially since some of the items were from Soul Calibur IV and should have taken next to no effort to port into the game.

Another one of those days.

Played ranked, got pissed off by the first two players, then proceeded to get demoted a shitload because they end up winning. It's stupid stuff too, like getting hit by Kazuya's ws12 mid pressure (where I'm pretty sure if I pressure with quick mids, that shouldn't be the moves hitting), or missing combos or getting whittled with lows against characters because I'm sure the moment I do block low, I end up eating a launcher (which I usually do).

Back to greens again, I guess.

I'm sure I got other problems with my game too but those are the biggest ones. Could also be that long breaks don't really do any good here.

Yeah, I recently started playing again after a long break and already got demoted. I hope Tekken 7 goes to PC. Would make playing some quick matches every once in a while much easier.

His laugh is the best. Good all Aris. His beard should be an item to wear in T7.

Yeah I know this. Yesterday I've wasted many hours building a new team. J6-Jinpachi, learned them whole day and went online ranked at the end. It was awful. Online was so laggy with most of those fuckers.
Btw. In laggy matches I always imagine they are downloading donkey porn in the background. Every time. Don't they know for Tekken you leave all the bandwidth clean or not play at all?
Anyway, I did not have fun at all. Mostly because of Jack, he's just unfun now. I think they took all the fun and character from the robot over the years. Even in DR he was better. Now they took out most of his voice and sound effects. Totally forgettable character.
Not that I've ever mained him but it was fun to casually play the robot from time to time.

His best appearance before they made from him an ugly caricature later:

Why does he look like this now again?

Way to ruin a character design.

But I'm off track again. I didn't have fun at all with Jack-Jinpachi team. And I don't know how to play Jinpachi at all it seems. Wasn't he supposed to be an "easy mode"? Didn't feel for me. Difficult non-mishima way to control a Mishima. uf+3+4 stance is pain in the ass to use. Awkward combos. That cool air throw is an jf. He can abuse some bullshit sweeps and stomps but other then that I did not find him easy to use at all. I could do better with Heihachi with my eyes closed, lol.

But I really like his on the ground moveset("flying" stance sucks), very cool looking and well animated. Kinda mysterious ancient Mishima fighting style. Even most of his moves in command list are left in Japanese. Very cool.

If he is in T7 somehow I hope he controls like an actual Mishima. Where's the crouch dash?

But maybe people actually like that he controls in unique way?

Maybe I should pair him up with Kazuya. Maybe then he'll click.

And yeah even short breaks ruin everything. Tekken is a hard drug you gotta pump into your veins 24/7, lol.

Edit:
Btw I'm sorry guys I didn't play. I was already tired and out of it after so many hours. I would be just waste of time as an opponent.

The sooner you stop playing Jinpachi as a mishima, the better he gets.

Dude utilizes the TTT2 engine the best.

Yeah I must switch that mindset.

Btw I finally got around to read the Tekken Comic.

Pretty funny interactions between characters.

Supposedly story was supervised by Namco. I don't think it's canon due to mostly being comedy manga. Still Leo being a servant to Lili and calling her: "My lady" is pretty funny.

Asuka's jacket... another recycled custom from TTT2. The fact that both the jacket and the mittens are intact & a carbon copy from TTT2 makes the likelihood of a customization system similar to T6 slimmer and slimmer. And with the lack of 2P outfits I really am beginning to fear T7 in the future match vids we see is just gonna be another round of TTT2's carnival of stupid.

I guess all I can do is hope the arcade goers keep the aesthetic as pleasing as possible to not depreciate the fantastics graphics the game has...

Or I could just not watch anything about T7. And when the console version comes pray Namco implemented a feature to disable customs from appearing on my system

Yikes, those are mostly hideous. Colors, how do they work?

I'm hoping the gloves thing is just because these customs are being displayed as full sets. I also really hope that T7's system is more character-specific like 6's was. I wouldn't mind some of Tag 2's customs coming back, but the items present in 6, and the fact that characters didn't share 90% of their costume pieces with the rest of the cast generally made for better looking, more individualized designs.

Playing ranked after a long break is always a bad idea. When I'm playing ranked I'm always just thinking "He's probably a spammer" and that makes me nervous. I can't fight people who do nothing but push buttons and ranked is full of those.
When I'm in player matches I don't care how high someone's rank is. It's the environment that influences my gameplay.

You know what the most annoying fucking thing about Jinpachi is? His stance keeps his arms to the side. That's the reason he is so fucking good at creating space and whiff punishing with d/f2. Even d/f1+2's minimal pushback sets up free whiff punishes with d/f2, because you can't clip his arms with anything. It is really an insanely huge oversight on Tekken Team's part.

Interesting. Maybe in return he's super wide and easier to hit from the side?
