Do I need to get UHD Blu-ray discs or are all Blu ray discs are the same?I have had that Samsung player since launch. It does absolutely incredible things with regular Blu-Ray upscaling, too.

All of this negativity on the Xbox One S UHD Bluray playback is making me question my decision to wait for the Scorpio to jump into UHD Bluray.
I purchased the 2017 Sony player (arrives later this week). I can post impressions if anyone is interested.
How feverishly should I be in pursuit of a 2016 B6 65" right now?
Causally look once a week, aka I've got a few months
Or
Obsessive searching, gotta find one very soon

Xbox one S is definitely the cheapest but it's also the worst on the market. If you're movie enthusiast with a proper home theater. The Xbox one S as a UHD player is not for you.
...visual result is quite stunning, at least as good as that delivered by any other 4K Blu-ray player weve seen and certainly as good as the HDR 4K content delivery of any streaming media set-top box weve yet seen. Disc media content from the One S renders particularly well and the HDR content of movies like Star Trek or just about any other 4K BD disc movie you decide to watch will blow you away with the finesse of its colors and richness of its dynamic range.
It's not very good. When it first came out it was kinda outpricing decent UHD players at the expense of features and performance. It has since caught up somewhat it terms of features but it also lost its price advantage in the meantime. Scorpio is going to be the same software and drive most likely so won't be better. Assuming it hits at $499 as is likely you will be better off with a dedicated player. Unless of course you want the Scorpio for games. All of this negativity on the Xbox One S UHD Bluray playback is making me question my decision to wait for the Scorpio to jump into UHD Bluray.
It will be the same UHD drive. Buy a standalone.

Can you give me some objective proof or is just your feelings. Your responses so far have been nothing but fanboy drivel. I would take the Xbox One over the Phillips UHD blu-ray in a heartbeat. Especially going forward. You think OS updates don't matter? You forget how many blu-ray discs that were newer would struggle on your blu-ray player until it was updated even post BD 2.0 profile. The Xbox One S is objectively a good player, the cheapest option and the one that will be updated the most going forward. If you want a standalone buy a standalone. If you can't afford the increase in price, buy the Xbox One S and then take note of the hyperbole of some posters.
I am literally telling you, I worked Best Buy home theatre for over 2+ years, I was heavily involved in AVSForum during the format wars of blu-ray and HD-DVD and have been involved in several tech threads on GAF even. The player is a good player, especially at the price. Like I have said, I noticed little to no discernible quality beyond my Xbox one S and my cousin's husbands Oppo beyond Xbox One S being slightly louder. What will make a bigger difference is the television you use and how you calibrate. Use facts not feelings.
Scorpio should be a purchase for the games and increased power. They did say it will use a better scaler, but so far nothing I have read about the drive so I won't pull tales from my ass and give you definitive statements that won't exist. I would probably recommend a standalone at that point depending on price.

It isn't the dogshit player some would have you think.

I'd say pretty feverishly, the 65"s seem to be getting pretty hard to find in the US. It would take two weeks for delivery to my local BB. 55" seem more available.

It's a scientific fact the Xbox one S is garbage as fuck as a UHD player. You and the other 9 people just don't know any better because you haven't used a real UHD player yet.
Did I insult your favorite plastic box ? Awwwww I'm sorry.
Gawd your post is fucking embarrassing. Fanboy drivel over a UHD drive ? Get real kid.
1. Go read literally any forum thread or review for the UHD player and you will see all the widespread issues. You got members here and in this very thread detailing there issues and everyone just shits on them with the same excuses. "Must be user error" "it's your tv" " it's your receiver" blah blah blah.
2. No difference between oppo and Xbox one S ? You obviously didn't learn shit at Best Buy those 2 years but I'm not gonna fault you because 99% of the employees don't know shit anyways. If you wanted me to take you seriously you shouldn't have said you didn't notice anything between the best players on the market and an console with a shit drive and poor execution just throwen in as an afterthought to use as bullet point.
3. are you really patting MS on the back for updates when it took them over 6 months To update shit that should have been there Day 1 ? And bitstream , atmos and DTS: X seems to be broken mess for a lot of people. Also I would bet money Xbox never gets a DV update.
4. You need a fucking app to play movies... A FUCKING APP which is a straight up joke.
no one with a straight face should be telling anyone that the Xbox one S is a "good" player or to get it over a standalone because it's passable video & audio wise at best. If you have properly calibrated tv and home theater you're throwing $200-$300 down the drain by buying an Xbox one S as a UHD player.

Great contributions to the thread. For some reason you also seem to ignore the hundreds and hundreds of posts and posters who say they have great video or a great experience with the Xbox One S player. You are just pulling tales from your ass. You don't even own the player and you are dead set on letting others buy it for some reason. Yes I would pat MS on the back for updates when those standalones especially from Phillips are ghost towns going forward. You just watch.
And yes I didn't notice much if any difference with MY OWN FUCKING eyes using my own Mad Max UHD disc that I brought to my cousin's husbands house on the same KS8000 model television I have. You are pulling your own speculations and feelings from your ass. I am giving anecdotal experience but actual experience nonetheless. But you do you.
I can litetally give highlight 50 posts for the Samsung or Phillips of skipping issues, poor playback, build quality from amazon or avsforum. But it would fall on deaf ears.
The point is, you get a decent UHD olayer for sub $199, nothing more needs to be said.

I don't know what I read, but I have a feeling you were in a very emotional and condescending head space when your wrote it. You were way out of line here.
The Xbox One S is more than just a UHD Blu-Ray player, and you know that. I'm telling you with a straight face, it's a good player. Is it as good as a dedicated, high end UHD player? Of course not, but it also does a hell of a lot more than those player can do, at the same price or less.
About to pull the trigger on a LG E7 OLED55E7P. Feel like I've done my research and it ticks all the boxes I care about. I've got a somewhat strange setup, so 55' is the largest I can go, and the integrated sound bar in that model works well for my needs (separate sound bar or audio solution just wouldn't work well for my situation).
Anything I'm forgetting? TV seems to have great input lag times for gaming... and if I'm understanding correctly those input lag measurements apply when using 4k and HDR - which I'd be doing with a PS4 Pro.
You're probably right but two members started off there post talking shit and others dogpiling DOT DASH DOT and it pissed me off.
So my bad

I've been on the OLED 2018 train for a while, however as of late, I'm really drawn to Sony's high end offerings - Z9D and XBR65X930E.
XBR65X930E is $3,299.99
OLED65C7P is $4,499.99
XBR65Z9D is $5,499.99
I swore I wouldn't buy another LCD, but that's because I'm on a shitty edge lit 2011 Samsung. The above aren't edge lit, save for the X930E, which is some kind of hybrid. I think it's a combination of some of the brightness issues I'm reading about OLED in comparison to the top LCD sets, and Sony's X1 Extreme processor. With 4k content being vary scarce it seems to me that processing and the handling of sub 4k content is crucial. By all accounts, Sony's processor is damn good.
And why are the 65'' versions of these TVs so much more than their 55'' counterparts, especially OLED
XBR55X930E is $2,299.99
OLED55C7P is $2,999.99
Z9D doesn't even bring its talents any lower than 65''

This is a terrible and likely bannable post. Learn how to discuss things with people without spewing insults and garbage like this.
The crazy tech behind the "slim backlight drive+" in the Sony X930E is very good. Very very good. I am constantly looking for problems with this set and the only minor gripe I have found so far is a little blooming during the opening "Columbia Pictures" logo and again at the end credits while watching "Secret Life of Pets". I haven't played around with settings too much so there's still some final calibration left to complete. I'm expecting some minor tweaks might completely resolve the blooming I did see ...
Overall though, a very good alternative to the pricier OLEDS, particularly if you can snag it on sale for less than $3K (which should be coming in the next few weeks).
Another gripe regarding HDTV's overall - why is it that most all sets come with 4 HDMI ports, of which only 2 are fully 4K/UHD/HDR capable? And then, one of those ports happens to be the only HDMI port supporting ARC? I've found myself hunting viable HDMI switches because I need to plug 3 game consoles into one HDMI port, which is proving to be even more difficult with all the new tech and bandwidth requirements of HDR. Exhausting.

OPPO UDP-203 vs Panasonic DMP-UB900: Picture Quality Comparison
Winner: UB900
This is Digital Foundry level scrutiny, but even in YT you can easily see the difference. Like the video says if you're going to pay that much these kinds of differences are noteworthy.
Gawd your post is fucking embarrassing. Fanboy drivel over a UHD drive ? Get real kid.
I'm a 2016 E6 owner, and have been loving it. Absolutely loving it. OLED changed how I watch and appreciate TV/Movies/Games.
I'd been trying to avoid the 2017...but the C7 has a nice fast 21 ms input lag. On paper, my 34 ms E6 seems slow and laggy by comparison. Damn. Now I'm wondering if it's worth upgrading, since 95% of what I do with it is games via consoles and pc.
I now know when it feels like if non gaming enthusiasts watch a Digital Foundry video. Couldn't tell the difference in anything he was showing on the patterns lol.

Why do you say the bolded?
How is BFI for gaming? Based on previous pricing history, I'm guessing this set is going to get a price drop some time in June and I'm probably going to replace my W900a with a X930E or Q7.
They are not all the same.
UHD Blu-Ray discs can play only on UHD Blu-Ray Players like the Xbox One S or the Samsung UBDK8500.
Normal Blu-Ray discs can play on either normal Blu-Ray Players or UHD Players.
All UHD Blu-Ray players can upscale normal Blu-Ray discs to 4k.
Some normal Blu-Ray players can also upscale normal Blu-Ray discs to 4k.
Upscaling quality will depend on the player.
Sony historically has offered a price drop 3 months after release. If they follow the same pattern this year, the X930 should drop slightly in a few weeks time. The X900E enjoyed a $200 price cut for a few weeks (back up to regular price now).
GAF I know its crazy, but I rolled the dice on a B6 Refurb from Walmart. There was 1 left in stock and I panicked.
They have a 30 day return policy that covers return shipping, I bought my Vizio from them as a Refurb in 2012 and have had nothing but great times with it.
I also bought my mothers TV through them and although they accidently send the wrong model at first, they covered free shipping both ways and discounted the final unit, so personally they are in my good graces.
My backup plan was that C6 ebay Daily Deal, but I really have to see the curve in person to know how Id feel about it.
Plus, the return on that makes me cover shipping + restocking fee ($500)..
Its definitely more than I wanted to spend, but ya know what, I'll have a few weeks to 100% decide, and more importantly I don't want these units to become impossible to find in the next month. I will gladly go through the return process to save a few hundred bucks.
Wish me luck GAF, TV arrives 5/3/17. Now I will panic check the internet every 5 minutes for the next 6 weeks to confirm to myself I made the wrong decision.
I purchased the 2017 Sony player (arrives later this week). I can post impressions if anyone is interested.

While I agree, having another resource reviewing is always good. HDTVtest has really uped their video production while always having a great written review.I don't know why AVForums use that extremely dull demo video on all their TVs.
