i come home to this. don't to this to me, roger. not to to chardy. not again.

edit: oh look, just in time to see federer waste three break points. joy.

This match would probably be over if Chardy had a non-zero IQ. His shot selection is abysmal, and it's really the only thing that's let Federer come this far (although Federer's first-serve placement deserves a mention too, some of those sliders have been disgustingly good). Chardy will almost certainly lose, though. I'd love to see what he could do with a proper coach, but as it is he's just another ball-basher.

ugly game, but a hold is a hold.

but what is this, indoor clay? smh.

Have they even done major resurfacing? I don't think you could get the ball to sit up like it does right now just using a change in the grit, and I'm not aware of anything more serious going on. I think they must have changed the balls, it's the only other explanation. Anyone know how to confirm this?

Ugh, Chardy is so frustrating. He has lovely footwork, a killer forehand, a reasonable-to-good backhand, an excellent first-serve, and yet you just know he's not going to make anything of himself because he has no fucking idea what he's supposed to be doing. There's literally no anticipation going on whatsoever. Federer doesn't even have to disguise his shots, Chardy will drift towards the centre court through lack of initiative to do anything else anyway.

what are the odds that federer will close this out with an easy service game? not good, i'm going to say.

Is that so?

But yeah... scrappy match. But Fed is through, he'll play better once he gets used to these courts, I hope. From what I have seen they are quite a bit slower than Basel.

I shot people I like more for less.
The French players really aren't having a good day. Benneteau, Gasquet, and Chardy are all out. Pouille (guy who beat Karlovic yesterday) just took the first set from Fognini though, and Tsonga and Monfils are still up, so maybe it'll improve for them.

Nishikori should really not be having this much trouble against Robredo, the guy looks like a zombie out there.

EDIT: Have to say, it's a fairly high quality match, though. Both players really going for their shots. I have a massive new appreciation of Robredo lately, guy is such a fighter and his forehand is quality.

glad monfils got it done in two. not that i think he has a chance against djokovic, but he's still more likely to pull off an upset than this isner. big guy is in a real slump.

Possibly controversial, but Stan wasn't actually doing that much wrong towards the end of that match, imo. Anderson's passing shots really, really good, and that backhand winner at 3-3 in the tiebreak was one of my favourite shots of the tournaments. I thought it was actually a really high quality match, for the most part, and a credit to both men. Sometimes you don't choke, you just get outplayed, but because it was Kevin and Stan everyone's just going to fixate on Stan losing from 5*-4 30-0 instead of how clutch Kevin was on the big moments.

EDIT: In fact, straight up going to say it, this was my favourite match of the tournament in terms of quality of play. -shrugs-

Really looking forward to this Murray-Dimitrov match, actually. High stakes for both men - Murray to guarantee the WTF, Dimitrov to keep the dream alive, Murray to break his losing streak this year to the man who took him out at Wimbledon, Dimitrov to prove he's not just a flash in the pan who happened to draw an out of form opponent. Obviously, I'd like to see a Murray win, particularly with Wawrinka's loss, as the prospect of YE#4 is drawing ever closer, but I'm guessing a lot of people in this thread will be hoping for Diva to make the WTF.

normally i would prefer dimitrov winning, but i figure murray has a better shot against djokovic so hopefully the scot prevails.

hopefully sir andrew just doesn't make it needlessly difficult for himself like he often tends to do so he won't be knackered in the quarters.

Murray deciding not to go up two breaks so he doesn't do his usual "I'm up two breaks, time to forget how to play tennis" routine.

EDIT: lawd, that backhand pass

EDIT: lawdy lawd, that rally at 3-1 15-0.

All the athletes that say "I don't pay attention to what the press says about me" are liars. The do listen, and they use negative press as motivation.

How many of the top 100 do we think are GAFfers? As male 20-something gamers, they are part of the target demographic...

Andy Murray may lurk here. His girlfriend from a few years ago reportedly dumped him because he played FIFA all day and never showed her attention or affection.

Fairly sure that's not true, he's been dating Kim since 2006, iirc. I do know him and Djokovic are FIFA buddies, though, apparently they used to play a lot when they were younger.

Yeah, I think the girlfriend story was some tabloid rumor.
Gilles Simon is known in France as THE video game specialist. It helped him being featured in Top Spin 4.

was totally overpowered as well.

edit: federer through in straights. pouille was pretty impressive at times though. let's hope monfils does something spectacular and becomes the only frenchman in the quarters.
