I know, I have just been disappointed the way the game has been heading by slowing down the courts across the board.

The Australian open is the biggest offender. They got rid of the super bounce surface. Now they are just like the US open

Not very many notable matches at this New Haven thing, and it seems to be raining like crazy there too. Baghdatis was killing the other guy before they suspended play.

I have to work all through the start of the US Open proper, I hate that.

I'm lucky enough to be able to wear earphones at work (only on one ear so I can still hear people) and I would minimize streaming matches and listen to the commentary, while watching the occasional rally.

Haven't paid attention to this Pilot Pen Open. I heard Blake had a clinical victory over some dude and that Baghdatis is apparently the top seed?

Getting ready to watch some good US Open action, though. I wonder how Federer will inadvertently embarrass Djokovic this year. Seems to have been a trend since 2007!

2007 - Amazing cross-court setup for a backhand smash.
2008 - Running smash lob winner.
2009 - Everyone's favorite.

Draw ceremony for the U.S. Open is tomorrow (ESPN2). I'll make the thread a little later.

Draws are out. Just glancing over it looks pretty good. Rafa has a pretty easy quarter but I'd watch out for Nalbandian in his section. Section 3 has all the American hopefulls. Roddick, Fish, and even Ginepri as a darkhorse because he has gotten to the semi's here before. Also James Blake is in section 3 but.....he's a has been. Once in the top 10, now out of the top 100. poor guy.

I also feel sorry for Taylor Dent. He always seems to draw Soderling early and Soderling always stomps him. Most recently at the French where SOderling won the match 6-0,6-0,6-1

Poor Dent. Make a thread MIMIC! plz?

Yesssssssssss!!! I will be attending my 3rd consecutive U.S. Open in Queens on Tuesday. I hope I get some good matches.

Oh, U.S. Open instead of US Open.

still google search sucks. I typed "US Open" "US open 2010" "U.S. Open 2010" and the thread wouldn't show for the first 5 pages. ( could be any page but I didn't keep going through the rest of the pages ) I sure do miss our own search function :( those were the days

:lol thanks for linking the thread in here. I couldn't even find my own thread after a search (and not even after a Google search).

Whatever....

Hi all, I was just exchanging emails with some Tennis-loving friends of mine and I sent this in one of the emails and thought it was worth posting here too...

On another note, I really hate the women's game. I'm really glad Kimmy won but the women's game is a joke.

The final lasted 60 minutes, and I think that's kind of a disgrace.

Surely if they're being paid "equal prizemoney" they need to front up and provide some good matches and worthy finals. Those spectators would've paid something like minimum US$100 per ticket only to be served up a 60-minute final...

Look at the men's game, we've got Nadal/Federer/Djokovic/Murray as a rock-solid top 4 and they are always contenders in the slams. (yes a few hiccups here and there) but then we've got players like Soderling, Berdych, Tsonga, Roddick, Del Potro, Monfils, Verdasco, Davydenko, etc all nipping at their heels and definitely capable of beating the top 4 and winning big titles.

Then you start talking about top 20+ players like Gasquet, Hewitt, Blake, Ferrer, Youzhny, Wawrinka, Baghdatis etc...

These guys can also do some damage in big tournaments.

That's at least 30 guys you would say all the others would "rather not" have to face in a match.

What's the women's game doing? Half-baked players like Zvonereva, Jankovic, Russian player X, etc who do nothing but lay down when the going gets tough?

No depth! Serena on one leg beats 90% of players, Kim Clijsters had time to get married and have a kid in between THREE STRAIGHT US OPEN TITLES (21-match winning streak), Justine came out of retirement and made the AU Open in her first slam back, I mean this is ridiculous...don't you think? Outside of the current top 5 or 6, after Stosur, the rest are shit players...zero consistency, and that's being kind to Stosur's "record"...

I don't think, on current performances and talent, that the Women deserve "equal prizemoney" in Tennis.

Shanghai anyone?

Woke up in time to see my boy Fed close out the last few games against Isner with some solid first serves and great groundstrokes. Not a bad first match at all.

Was hoping for a Tipseravic upset vs Soderling but he choked and Djoko was too good for Lubicic.

I saw some of the second set, he seemed to be playing quite well.

I hope they can all get in to some good form before i see them in the masters finals in november. :D

I just wish this sort of thing happened in a grand slam, never seems to though. Murray either chokes or gets tired. He could get the job done if only he'd cut that crap out. And yes, I know Fed raises his game for grand slams, but I still think it would happen.

Ivanovic wins first title in 2 years in Linz.

I've never really been a fan of Ivanovic's, but I'm really happy that she seems to be making her way back to the top 10. God knows we could use a few more worthy competitors at the top...

Also, Kimiko Date's run in Japan this week was similarly exciting. Too bad she wasn't able to pull out the win, but I'm sure she's still happy with her performance (taking out Stosur early on and getting to the final).

Man, Fed was playing nowhere near the level he was during the other matches and Murray was a BEAST with those insane gets. Fed used to be known for his mental toughness...not so sure anymore.

Paris Masters 1000 anyone?

No Nadal, perhaps he'll be underdone going into London ATP World Tour Finals as well...

Federer on an awesome win streak, he's my pick for Paris

Yeah I am following it. Hoping for Söderling but he has not been in form lately.

My pick is Djoker for some reason.

Nadal is probably just resting for the WTF. He did not even win a set last year so he probably wants to perform well there this time.

I hope Fed finally wins this one. But Murray is a Masters specialist...

They're really dragging out this men's season. London finals should be now at the latest.
They need to restructure the ATP schedule, they are in rough shape, they had to pay ESPN so that they will show IW and Miami next year.

Federer got just beaten by Monfils. What a match it was. Was decided in a tiebreak in the third set.

Söderlings match earlier today against Lhodra was amazing as well. Awesome day of tennis. Can't wait for tomorrows final!

Just saw it, Monfils is having his one tournament a year where he puts everything together and knocks off several top players in a row. Good thing this is final tourny of the year for him because his body falls apart after these types of tournaments.

I always seem to catch Federer when he's at his worst. Up 4-1 in the last set, 5 match points (this is with Monfils barely getting any first serves in). AND with the net cord working in his favour. Just error after error.

U.S. Open SF: Djokovic def. Federer 5-7, 6-1, 5-7, 6-2, 7-5

What a GARBAGE loss. Those Federrors were so frustrating and he wasn't able to hit deep returns, giving Monfils easy putaways.

Didn't he have match points against Hewitt in Germany? Or nearly at least.

:lol I still can't believe how Federer lost yesterday and I don't have much expectations with him nowadays. Congrats to Soda, he must have been the happiest with Federer losing.
