SIDON: Israeli troops on Wednesday interfered with a Spanish peacekeeping unit attached to the UN Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) while they were building a fence on the Lebanese side of the divided Ghajar village and the road leading to it, local security officials said.

The Israelis also prevented the Spanish from undertaking the same measure in another location in the village and threatened to open fire on them, the officials said, adding that the peackeeping force's command had urged the Israelis to desist.

According to officials, the Spanish troops took defensive positions and had orders to retaliate in self-defense if the Israelis opened fire.

Witnesses said UNIFIL also dispatched five French Leclerc tanks, several armored personnel carriers, and more than 70 peacekeepers to the area after the incident.

Attempts to contact UNIFIL spokespersons to discuss the incident were unsuccessful.

It's pretty fucking stupid that they are willing to shoot the Israeli's but not the Hizbullah, which is getting more rockets daily. Everyday there's a new article about how the Hizbullah prides in having more and more rockets...

Wow, you're a dumbass. Why would they shoot Hezbollah when they're not doing anything? To start another war?

One of the agreements was that Hizbullah won't get near the border AND won't get more weapons/rockets/etc. So, yeah, they should shoot and search for rockets. but they don't.

They don't because they're smart and know that taking a dumb action like that will disrupt peace. Not to mention that the Lebanese government has requested for Hezbollah to keep it's arms (don't know if they've changed their stance or not).

It's not smart, it's called ignoring the situation. What they have over there is not peace, it's a cease fire and it will explode one day due to all the arms the Hizbollah is currently getting.

Just recently Israel shot down two Hizbollah soldiers who tried to cross the border, and Hizbollah said "they'll avenge their death".

I doubt any country in the world would stand aside while terrorists arm themselfs next to the border.

I'm guessing you're talking about this incident:

In which case they weren't Hezbollah members and they weren't hostile.

Depends on what your definition of terrorism is.

They had guns, a shootout means both sides have them. Of course they are hostile, and the Hizbollah said they'll avenge their death, so...

Wikipedia: Most definitions of terrorism include only those acts which are intended to create fear (terror), are perpetrated for an ideological goal (as opposed to a lone attack), and deliberately target or disregard the safety of non-combatants (civilians). Many definitions also include only acts of unlawful violence and acts of war.

That, my friend, is the definition of Hizbollah. They want to destroy Israel and kill all jews. They plan to have a revolution in Lebanon (aka "fear"), and just recently the leader of the Lebanese Druzim side said they are ready for war against Hizbollah, if they wish it.

Should I carry on? "...deliberately target or disregard the safety of non-combatants..."

One year ago they waged war against Israel by shooting rockets on the Northern cities and kidnapping soldiers. That is surely an act of peace and love.

You really don't get it do you?

The reason that there are militants arming themselves against Israel is because of stuff like this. Israel invaded a neighboring country, and destroyed the infrastructure, targeting civilians. Now they are trying to stop an international relief effort. You don't see why this pisses people off?

Napboy said:
Why all this hate towards Israel?

Thoughout history Jews have copped it.
There is a difference between how you feel about Jewish people, and how you feel about the actions of Israel. Israel shouldn't get a free pass for their actions just because it is a Jewish nation.

The question you should ask yourself is: Why did Israel invaded Lebanon and would they do that in the first place? The answer is no. In their 60 years of existence, not once did they start a war. The arab nations waged wars on them.

Israel did not attack the power plants or any other important building due to pressure from France and USA, and because of that Lebanon still stands, otherwise Israel would have turned it back to the stone age. They only waged war on Hizbollah and not entire Lebanon, and because the Hizbollah used the civilians as it's cover thats what happends.

If the civilians allow Hizbollah to shoot, it's their own damn fault. Some examples:

You can search youtube for "Hizbollah civilian" and see more.

Ok first, they did want a revolution for Lebanon but has dropped that issue a long time ago, that's it's non issue even with the Lebanese government, so I don't understand how it's an issue with you.

And the rest of what you said is just assumptions and baseless statements, so I'm not even going to address them.

And how the hell did this topic turn into Hezbollah anyways? It's so damn off topic. It's actually funny how you diverted attention from Israel to Hezbollah, when Hezbollah aren't even involved in this.

This is a case of Israel being hostile towards UN peacekeeping units which is why the UN units are ordered to retaliate for defensive purposes if Israel shoots, maybe you should read the topic next time before you reply.

They never dropped that issue, you just don't hear about it in your local news. Read some of the statements released by the Lebanese PR agencies. And no, nothing I wrote in my last message is a "baseless assumpion", it's all real. Do your research before dismissing this.

Any way, once the U.N. will actually do it's job then I'll blame Israel for being hostile. The U.N. are not neutral and are mostly defending the Hizbollah, while the organization gain more arms and prepares for the third Lebanese war.

Huh, once Hamas and Hizbollah will only shoot at the I.D.F I'll say you are correct. But for now both the Palestinian and Hizbollah only shoot at civilians and hurt Israeli children, too. That's just disgusting that most people consider Jewish blood to be cheap.

Just yesterday two brothers were hurt from a missile shot to the Israeli city of Sderot (over 5,000 rockers the past 7 years, by the way) and a seven year old will probably remain without legs. Again, if the Palestinians let the murderers shoot from their buildings and schools they cannot whine later that Israel shoots back.

Again soul, you bring in Hezbollah and even Hamas when this article's about Israel. If you really do think the UN should shoot Hezbollah because they're not complying with a UN resolution, don't you think they should be in an all out war against Israel? Israel is in violation of dozens of UN resolutions and they're not getting punished for it.

So are the Hizbollah and the Palestinians. Could be funny if an attack by the U.N. would bring those three together to fight back :lol

Which is starting a war, no matter how you spin it.

So in total Israel started two wars if you count the Lebanese war and the Six Days war, how many have the arabs started? much, much more. The wars will never stop until one of the sides is eliminated or both will finally agree to have peace, which seems pretty far away. Perhaps one day Israeli's will be able to eat falafel in Damascus.

So you are just supposed to sit there while an enemy nation deploys 1000 tanks and 100,000 men on your border and closes off your ports?

In my eyes, what Egypt did was, without a doubt, an act of war.

This isn't the first time they've been hostile to UN forces. They hit a UN listening post during the Israel/Lebanon war two summers back.

What I'm saying is that you were pretty misinformed at the start of this thread about some pretty basic points of history. How many people do you know are just as misinformed and believe that Israel has never started a war?

Is it possible that there are other things that you take for granted that you shouldn't be?

Give me some examples of things I've said in the thread you believe are wrong, please. I do not believe I'm wrong about the Six Days War, I just believe that once Egypt and other nations that are/were considered as Israel's enemy have been preparing to attack Israel, it is inevitable that Israel will defend themselfs and decide to go on a pre-emtive strike.

Seriously, would any country in the world, given they have info about a planned attack on their land, wait for it before launching their own pre-emptive attack?

Israel has has later given Egypt all the territories they conquered during that war, though I doubt they'll return the Golan since it's a very strategic area and Syria usually bombed Israeli farmers before that war when they controlled it.

Can you please just shut the fuck up and leave this thread.

How did this thread become about Hizbollah? While I agree with most of Soul's points, they seem totally irrelevant to the OP.

EDIT: Also, :lol at Lebanese news sources. Do we have any better reports on what happened?

Hezbollah is relevant as a distraction from the OP.

Soul should be commended. He's honed his posting skills well in the gaming forum.

What would happen if the Israeli soldiers would've actually shot at the spanish troops?

The UN would've admonished them, the US would've stood up for them. Nothing would've happened overall. It's kinda annoying. If Israel or Saudi Arabia do anything bad, it's never their fault.

One question, do you live in Israel?

I may as well question your motives as well. Why hate Israel so much?

About your question: I had a few visits to Israel as part of my army training. Some of the best people I've ever met are from there. Plus, I'm currently in Israel to meet a few people and next week and I'm going back home. Even if I were to reside in Israel, and I would love to do it someday, it would have had nothing to do with stating the obvious.
