Shit. And the people from the last attack are still recovering. This is amazing what's happening in Europe these days.

Hopefully there are no fatalities.

Why would you be worried? You're more likely to get run over by a bus than by a terrorist. However I have never heard of anyone being scared of going anywhere because they might die in traffic.
I'm worried because my wife is pregnant. It's just something you start thinking about.

Terrible news.

Based on the events in France, it's clear this is now a guerrilla war being waged by homegrown Muslim jihadists in Western Europe. They have a very large pool to recruit from.

I honestly hope they catch the fucker/s alive but I'd have them dead if it meant saving lives.
The only use for capturing them alive is mapping out the terrorist cell if possible. Other then that, I really couldn't care about what happens to people who do this.

God, that's so fucked up. What is going on with the world?

I'm headed to London in two weeks and I'm getting increasingly wary of going with all these terrorist incidents. I'm coming from America but I look middle eastern so I'm worried of dealing with potential racism while I'm there. Especially since I'll be on my own. :/

You look middle eastern? There are actual middle eastern people in London who carry on their everyday lives very happily.

I'm half Arabic and have lived in different parts of the UK throughout my life, the vast majority of people will not have any prejudices against you, you're welcome here and don't think otherwise.

So they still haven't place any protective barriers between the road and the walkways?

You know you can just fill water in these things

They don't stop anything larger than a smart car, in fact larger cars propel them if they break off their mounts so they can be missiles

I work for a Uk council highways dept and we are currently producing a scheme to introduce crash 'proof' bollards around the city centre to prevent vehicle incursions and even the ones we are looking at might not stop some HGV's but they slow them enough to allow people to flee

and they aren't cheap (thousands per bollard) to install without considering the cost of moving under ground pipes, electricity feeds etc to fit their concrete bases, its impossible to install them everywhere, and you cannot install them on a bridge deck, they don't have the depth.
Installing the current technology is not the answer, preventing the terrorism (if this is that) and Police is the way to stop this

They need these...

ConcretePylonInstallationWestAllis_1.JPG

They are the sort of things councils will be installing across the country, the bulk of costs is the diversion of underground stats cables/pipes

I'll give you a hug.

You should be fine though. London's not really gonna be London unless you walk down the street and see a mini kaleidoscope of multiculturalism.

Can't say there won't be a few prices though :(

Police are now searching for three suspects, a BBC reporter at the scene says.

He says there are also reports that some people have been stabbed.

The priority for the police is now to get people - many whom where enjoying a nightout in central London - out of the area.

The police cordon is being moved further and further out, our reporter adds.

Looks like downgrading the terror status from critical was a mistake. RIP people.

All we can do is persevere. Misplaced anger will lead to more innocents getting hurt.

Maintaining the terror alert at critical wouldn't have stopped this. There's still armed soldiers on the streets after Manchester.

Come. You will be welcomed with open arms.

Good to hear, thanks guys. The world's just a scary place right now so I don't feel it's wrong to be cautious.

And didn't mean to take away from this event, sorry.

Not sure deterrence is really the topic but after the Nice attack I think they were looking at retractable steel poles that can be put up during attacks or events. No idea if any progress has been made on that.

London is incredibly multi-cultural, so I wouldn't worry too much. Also, I find it's reputation for "coldness" to be overblown, it's not worse in that regard than any other big city (and I say that as a non-resident).

Fucking awful, my heart jumped when i read the thread title. I just dont know, i dont know how we can root these pieces of shits out. Im veering towards zero tolerance here, anyone that knows anyone with these beliefs that dont report them should also be charged. Im at a loss.

Please, i pray, no fatalities. Please ;_;

ffs, my bus stop is on London Bridge. If this happened during after-work hours it would have caused havoc. That bus stop gets really packed.

That's an understatement if there ever was one.

I'll reiterate what I said earlier:

The odds of being caught in a terrorist incident - even when they're as "commonplace"as this - are very low. Please don't let events like this discourage you from experiencing one of the world's great cities.

Having to phone fam up twice in a week to check they aren't involved aint good for my health. Hope no one dies because of this attack.

No, but it shows they weren't expecting an imminent attack to drop it and here we are. This suggests it's a cell operating outwith the Manchester one. Not good for our intelligence services. London is a high-value target so usually if an attack happens elsewhere you'd expect intelligence to be on high alert in London.

Jesus, I was just on the Northern line when they said London Bridge is closed due to a security incident. Now I'm home and looking at the news, it's weird how close I was to this.

Hoping people pull through.

I work in London (don't live there) but it's an amazing city and you'll feel fully welcome anywhere you go.

Potentiallt tens of thousands of young and aggrieved Muslim men willing to perpetrate such attacks. Hard to know what should be response.

This "logic and death statistics" rebuttal is dumb . It feels extremely dismissive to people who have all the right to feel scared of terrorism.

I live and work in London and have no fear of these incidents, Londoners just carry on as usual now. Don't let this kind of thing put you off. With regards to the middle eastern thing... London is a very multicultural place, there's no way you would need to feel uncomfortable or worry about racism.

way to terrorize the shit out of everyone.

It looks pretty mental but they were mentioning the police shouting on BBC news and the witness was saying that you know, people out, had a few drinks, some people are a little slow to react by this point in the evening. I don't envy the police in this situation right now.

Oh god, I have quite a few friends who live and study around there. Everyone I've spoken to seems to be ok so far. Apparently armed police were entering the underground trains and the cordon is being expanded.

London is a melting pot of millions of people and one of the most diverse cities in the world. Londoners are used to seeing just about every ethnicity and nationality you can think of on a daily basis. No-one is going to be racist to you because you look middle eastern.

way to terrorize the shit out of everyone.

It's Saturday night in London, there are a lot of innocent people who do not have the wits around them, especially with regards to a potential killer nearby. Loud, to the point, and fast is what I saw there. Scary as it may be, how would you recommend getting everyone's compliance without force with that much efficiency?
