Terrorist attack in London [up: 6 people killed, ~50 injured, 3 attackers dead]

I'm out of London this weekend, but it's horrible to have to see this all over again :-( Just have to hope as few people are hurt as possible.

I love London, I love going there. There's no other city I have been to that feels the same. So sad to see it like this, again.

They always are and it'll be men as well. Terror networks within the UK are getting out of control. Look at the number of arrests after Manchester. Into double figures.

Yeah, I feel they've lost control man. Feels like this will indeed be the "new normal". We'll have the same impotent response and delude ourselves with trite words: "terrorists won't win", "we will not be cowed" when the reality is that everyone is a sitting duck and the terrorists have won on multiple occasions when they maim and kill. We'll have the same conversations - and ask the same questions until the next attack. I remember people sneering at France saying it won't get that bad here in the UK because we're more "tolerant" and better integrated as if would-be terrorists will have a change of heart because the burqa isn't banned here.

No, but it shows they weren't expecting an imminent attack to drop it and here we are. This suggests it's a cell operating outwith the Manchester one. Not good for our intelligence services. London is a high-value target so usually if an attack happens elsewhere you'd expect intelligence to be on high alert in London.

It's almost impossible to keep track of so many potential terror threats these days. Short of martial law and curfews there's very little to prevent "lo-tech" terror attacks of some guy(s) plowing a vehicle into a crowd of pedestrians.

The only ugly option for anyone on a watch list would basically be some black site deal. And the if you rip them from homes and families you foster more.

Just go with the flow of people running away. I really hope they find them quickly, but it also seems pretty easy for them to just hide between the crowds leaving the area.

On flip side London has insane amount of surveillance going on via CCTV's so by combing footage they may be able to track attackers and identify them, if not caught on scene.

BBC just reported that Trump is being given the lowdown of events.

After the last leaks, I hope they are more careful what they tell the US this time.

British police rushed to an incident on London Bridge on Saturday after witnesses said a van ploughed into pedestrians and another witness told Reuters she saw people with throats cut on London Bridge.

Eye witness, so who knows how reliable it is, and everyone being in panic mode and such. But that sounds horrible.

There is always a trail. But that one terrorist from the Paris attack was manage to hide for a long time. Hopefully the police catches these guys soon.

I saw video of the van, the back doors of it were open, so I'm assuming people were in the back and jumped out after it crashed, and then fled to the market area to continue the attack.

Bish loves my games!
So it began with a stabbing in a nearby restaurant? And the same person/s responsible where in the white van?

I'd be reasonably sceptical if reports of gunshots. Many people think they hear them in these types of events, even if it didn't happen.

On top of that it is many times harder to get a gun in the U.K. even compared to mainland Europe.

I just dont get it.
What do these scumbags even want? Like, what's their goal? What do they hope to achieve?

I know. But there are people who aren't NeoGAF users that are involved in this incident too.

Why are you being this pedantic?

Because this happened in London...?

The bigger picture clearly isn't just London, nor can we guarantee the safety of any other area of the country right now.

I live in Sheffield and there was an anti-terror raid 5 minutes away from my house this week, with a simultaneous raid in Huddersfield.

The BBC reporter currently live at the scene also said he heard four gun shots shortly after he arrived

Many nations are suffering. Radicalization and homegrown terrorism is costing lives in societies. As always we cannot turn into a privacy-eroding human rights abusing police state. However, we cannot just keep arresting and busting networks AFTER people end up dead/seriously injured. I know there is a lot of preventative arrests, the stats and figures show this. It's about probing into why pretty big targets slip through. The Manchester attackers record was mental.

I bet there are multiple arrests after this which will show they know of potential suspects in the area. The question then is out of these suspects what did they know of them and their current activities/likelihood to act.

Cid car with no siren but lights flashing, horning all the way down...
Guess that's one way to make people aware of you.

People approaching police saying they live within the London Bridge cordon are being advised to stay elsewhere tonight if possible

From Press Association reporter.

This is amazing what's happening in Europe these days.

Be careful with assumptions like this and keep in mind that deaths by terror attacks have reduced in the last 30 years in Europe and also that there are probably more violent deaths in the USA.

The news doesn't talk about every violent death but recently just focuses on this type of horrible events.

Really had interest in coming to visit London and the U.K. in the near future. Having serious second thoughts now...

Don't take it as an exclusive message to NeoGAF members, it has always been a well-meaning message to any and all in a surrounding area of an attack or disaster, from one part of the world to another. The GAF bit in the end is because, rationally, that message of care will likely only be read by a Gaffer.
