Yes. 'Real' cabs in London are black, and everyone calls them black cabs. As a non-native, I am not entirely sure why since, as far as I can see, there are no other types of cabs.
(Uber put aside, but that's new)

the taxi driver said 3 men got out with 3 12inch long blades and started stabbing people. no way can armed police respond that fast. I expect a lot of dead people.

The Black Cab in London (and elsewhere) is your type of Yellow NYC cab. An "official" vehicle. There are also more private cars used by other companies (think Uber cabs).

A black cab is transport for London fully licensed cab. Kind of like the licensed yellow cabs in New York. You have to have that license if you want to pick people up from the side of the street.

Same in Sweden where I live, we have 4 policemen (2 cars) patrolling a huge area most of the time. Last time we had to call the police it took 45 minutes for them to arrive.

black cabs are official london taxis and can be hailed on the street. People use also cab for private cars that need to be called to a location for pick up.

There are lots of stats in that PDF going up to 2016. The long of the short is we arrest and convict many who do not get to carry out an attack. Our biggest issue is losing track of those that are capable of doing so and not managing to stop them prior.

It's not quite the time to play armchair intelligence officer, but it isn't quite fair of our services both police and intelligence to say they never manage to be proactive and prevent.

We need armed police patrolling the streets/roaming around at all times in vans. We at least need to rethink how something like this happens and how we deploy police.

they use violence to install fear into people and their surroundings. that is their end goal. there's also allah but I don't know all the details about that to speak on it.

The driver of a black cab will have passed something called 'the knowledge', which is a series of tests that show they understand the layout of the city. It's very difficult to do, reportedy.

After they pass the tests, they can be licenced to drive a black cab.

A general cab, or a minicab, has to be licenced but, they don't have to do the same test. There's tension between the two groups.

There are also differences between road rights; I think black cabs can use bus lanes, while regular/minicabs can't.

With multiple incidents at once it worries me that with the flooding of police to those areas it leaves a lot of other areas with their guard down because the focus and resources go elsewhere. Stay safe everyone.
