Terrorist attack in London [up: 6 people killed, ~50 injured, 3 attackers dead]

This is horrible, once again.

I just don't know how these random attacks can be stopped by a rational civilized society. Not without getting brutally authoritarian.

It's heartbreaking.

Yes. 'Real' cabs in London are black, and everyone calls them black cabs. As a non-native, I am not entirely sure why since, as far as I can see, there are no other types of cabs.
(Uber put aside, but that's new)

You have taxis that you can call or book from a taxi office. They are standard cars and are not legally allowed to pick up customers without being pre-booked.

The only ugly option for anyone on a watch list would basically be some black site deal. And the if you rip them from homes and families you foster more.

I think we have to think of a different strategy though. We can't hope things will eventually simmer down because it won't. Normal people will eventually lose patience and it will be reflected in voting trends and attitudes towards Muslims in general. The people behind these attacks are exploiting our tolerant liberal attitudes to bring about death and destruction. To not look at our policies in light of the changing reality is madness in the same way people way people dogmatically cling to religious beliefs when it is a detriment. These people are planning exhibitions of mass murder under the cover of the ever expanding doctrine of human rights. There has to come a point where something has to change.

I expect it will be revealed that the person(s) was known to security services. I don't understand the point of stating this anymore. Is it supposed to make people feel better? I don't know.

London Bridge and Borough are so close, I can imagine it's the same incident. Vauxhall is odd, though. If it's related to this, I wonder if it's some symbolic attempt to hit close to the security services.

It's very strange to see the Met tweeting things about multiple attacks and telling people to barricade themselves.

I know I'm letting the terrorists win and all that, but this shit here is the one thing worrying me about relocating to Germany in the fall. My GF is pretty "fuck them I'll do what I want" and will obviously want to go to Oktoberfest but I can't help but think there will be an attack there.

America has plenty of problems too but all this going down in Europe is scary ;/

There are lots of stats in that PDF going up to 2016. The long of the short is we arrest and convict many who do not get to carry out an attack. Our biggest issue is losing track of those that are capable of doing so and not managing to stop them prior.

It's not quite the time to play armchair intelligence officer, but it isn't quite fair of our services both police and intelligence to say they never manage to be proactive and prevent.

they may be true for some but others have complaints going back years that never get touched before they carry out an attack. Manchester attacker for example, members of his community and local mosque issues complaints about him and how he acted. Same with the Boston Bombers, they were reported on a year or two prior.

What can you do? If they know of them but have no evidence to prosecute them. Do we put people in jail due to our suspicions?

The attackers are still loose, it's normal that they want to inform people to be safe.

Are you a snail?

Are you usain bolt? London Bridge to Waterloo is a brisk 25-30 minute walk (I do it twice a day). Vauxhall is a good way past that - at least another 15 mins.

Far enough apart to suggest they aren't likely to be the same people, which is perhaps what people unfamiliar with the area are wondering about.

If you're on your PC, download "Hola" for Chrome or Firefox and then set it as UK when accessing Youtube. You will be able to view it then.

I believe it works as a Proxy? Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Don't fucking use Hola for a start. Use HMA Proxy if you don't have VPN.

Where you relocating from? Because if it's from the US you're probably safer in Germany.

Was at a festival near Bethnal Green tonight, our tube route back took us past London Bridge station and through Southwark, near Borough Market. I'm currently sitting on a train at Waterloo that is due to depart. Only heard about stuff happening through my gf getting a whatsapp message from a friend. To say I've been feeling l anxious is an understatement. Thankful to avoid what has happened so far and feeling so fucking awful for anyone caught up in this. What a fucking awful thing for anyone to do.

It was weird in a way that people on the tube with us were mixed between those seemingly not knowing what was going on and those who you could see worry on their faces.

At this point? Yes. If you have ties to terrorism, like internet contact, phone messages, looking up shit about how to built a bomb, etc, I won't mind they lock your ass up until it is figured out what your intentions are.

For us Americans, what's the difference in a cab vs a "black cab"?

There are two types of cabs but it's mainly down to licensing, Black cabs/hackney carriage which you can hop in without booking and they're usually the famous black cabs they usually wait in taxi ranks or you can flag one down. The other type is private hire which you have to ring up a taxi company for, usually a saloon type car, a private hire cab cannot pick up passengers without it being pre-booked.

Mi6 building is just over the road from vauxhall rail station so could be possible.

Witness from the bridge incident on CNN said not just a few but "a lot of gunshots fired". Unclear the source of it, could've been police.

Yes, this is inexcusable. We never quite get a straight answer as to why this happens. It surely cannot be a case of "lack of evidence/can not legally arrest". Even a single report of this person may be radical and able to carry out an attack should be legal grounds for questioning.

If it turns out the perpetrators were known to security services, the general public are going to go fucking nuts.

Is a few falsely imprisoned people a worthy price to pay for potentially saving dozens of lives? That's what this basically boils down to.

And how long do we put them in prison for? Months? Years? When do we release them? What's a guy who's been imprisoned for years because he may theoretically be a terrorist gonna do when he gets out?

Sky just showed that video of the police shouting in the restaurant. They hadn't cut out the part where a guy calls the police cunts, but then his friend told him to shut up and not be a fucking idiot.

This is why they have to be so loud and menacing, they are dealing with drunk knobs.

Edit: Yeah, I misheard, the guy shouts "Muslim cunts"
