Yeah, I'd say avoid looking. I have zero use for it, and it makes me want to buy one.I'm kind of avoiding watching the quick look because I know it will lead to me buying one and I have pretty much no use for it other than evening reading.

I had zero use for an iPad before my brother gave me his, and now I haven't turned my laptop on in months (still using a desktop for primary computing). If you want one, go for it. You will find a use for it, guaranteed. Tablets are a fantastic web consumption device.
I have two ipads a nook and a kindle. I realize they are awesome, I also realize I have zero impulse control.
Speaking of zero impulse control, has Norm done any sort of roundup of mirrorless cameras? I'm looking to buy one for my wife.
I have an Ipad that I love, but I think I might convince my wife she wants a Nexus 7 just so I could play with it a bit. If it really is as light as they say, I think it could be fun.
Are there any US stores with it to play around with?
On this week's episode, Will drinks water, Norm gets grossed out, and Gary is broken. All that, plus the latest on the Oculus Rift, the Windows 8 RTM, the problem with Verizon's LTE service, and another edition of fake outtakes. Enjoy!
We talked about it briefly this week. I didn't have much to contribute as I still haven't seen it.Did they ever end up talking about The Newsroom? I'm a bit behind on podcasts.

If you've seen an Aaron Sorkin show before, you've already seen it.We talked about it briefly this week. I didn't have much to contribute as I still haven't seen it.
Can't they just put some black garbage bags over the skylights? Not a pretty solution but it should keep some of the heat out
Also I love Will's chest cam. I wonder what videos they are cooking up for that
I'm sure he was joking about the wiki but I seriously hope they are planning on getting a website worth a damn before bothering about a wiki. The last redesign is so terrible, it's not even functionnal for watching videos.
Really? I click the videos and they load fine.
Hmm, Gary might have a point. During the Olympics both a professional BBC sports commentator and a multiple gold medallist former swimmer suggested FINA and the IOC are in the preliminary stages of reducing the total amount of swimming events in order to bring it in line with other modern Olympic disciplines (just like cycling did after Beijing 2008). I'm inclined to believe them, they should know.I'm kind of confused by Gary's rip on Phelp's. What he does is basically compete in every running event. Most guys are specialists, very few swimmers try as huge a program as Phelps does. Hell, Lochte tried it and dropped out of one of his races after the first day. It's like trying to run the 100, 200 and 400 yard races plus the hurdles. Claiming he's just doing the same thing over and over is something I'd expect a sports expert like Ryan Seacrest to spout.

So yeah, while Phelps' unprecedented success is probably what brought it to attention, whether 1 person wins them all or 10 is kinda irrelevant, obviously there is something to the argument that 34 medals are too many (and that's not including diving or syncro).
I agree, it's not like we're going to see 4 Phelps' every Olympics from now on (hell, I doubt we'll even see one again in our lifetime) - but I definitely think the IOC should endeavor to make sure all disiplines are as evenly spread as possible. That's fine, but medal count aside it's rare for a person to utterly dominate a solo sport so utterly and completely for the 12+ years that Phelps has.
I don't understand the "guy has too many medals" argument. Harrison Bergeron?

Because it then encourages all the separate committees (like FINA, UCI, etc) to make sure their individual events are as physically and observably different as possible. If any discipline is allowed an unlimited amount of medals, you're just going to see the same thing over and over again with minor alterations. Why?
Why?
