Texas Lt. Gov. calls for Fort Worth superintendent resignation over bathroom policy

Texas Lt. Governor Dan Patrick called for the resignation of Fort Worth Independent School District Superintendent Dr. Kent Scribner on Monday over new guidelines outlining bathroom use.

The new policy announced on April 19 requires school officials to allow transgender students access to bathrooms consistent with “the gender identity that each student consistently and uniformly assert,” according to the Star-Telegram.

Transgender students are allowed to use the sex of the bathroom they identify with when no other students are present, according to the guidelines.

In an interview with News 8, Patrick called for the resignation of Dr. Scribner. "I'm asking him and those three members of his executive team, I'm calling for their resignation. We want a 15-year-old boy full of vivid vigor that every 15-year-old boy has walking into the girls bathroom?" said Patrick.. "The superintendent is so irresponsible to do this that he needs to step down." the Lt. Governor went on to say.

Campus safety should be of paramount concern for anyone in his position. Every parent, especially those of young girls, should be outraged. The State of Texas has an affirmative responsibility to provide a safe environment in the schools where attendance is compulsory. While this may be an example of the need for the Legislature to pass a meaningful School Choice Bill, we must not allow the actions of Dr. Scribner to go unnoticed or unanswered. I call upon the parents within the Fort Worth ISD to take immediate steps to repeal this stealthy scheme and remove Dr. Scribner from his post.”

This all comes in the aftermath of a North Carolina bill requiring a person to use the public restroom corresponding to the sex on their birth certificate.
Patrick told NBC 5 last month that he would support similar legislation in Texas.

Was reading this a bit ago. I hope The superintendent is able to stand his ground. I'd hate to see my hometown gain hateful policies such as what Dan Patrick no doubt intends to promote if they get him fired.

He said 15-year-old, meaning this is involving high schools I'm assuming. No mentally stable teenager is going to make himself known as that guy who tried to do creep shit in the girls' bathroom, that's social suicide in that kind of environment and is infinitely more harmful to a teen than any sort of gender freedom. Certainly not a kid with "vivid vigor", and unless it's one of those schools that aren't well-monitored I really don't see the big issue here.

Maybe it's late or something, idk. I just don't agree with the idea that "lol teen boys are horny mofos mirite" is a valid reason to protest these kinds of things.

Boy, the reading comprehension with these folks. If that boy identifies as a girl all the time, yes. I don't reckon many schools have much incidence of horny jocks dressing as girls full-time.

Also, I think the phrase they meant there was "vim and vigor. "

While I don't live in Fort Worth, I would like to say, as a Texan, that I think that Lt. Gov. Patrick is a piece of shit. One of the most frustrating things about southern Republicans to me is that you can't tell if they're pandering or if they're actually that crazy.

I generally don't care about this bathroom issue and feel like transgender people should go where they are most comfortable. I do have one question though. If somebody is transgender, and they are not undergoing any sort of body alteration, what exactly is uncomfortable about going to the bathroom of their born sex? I understand if one is making a physical transition why it is important. i guess I'm looking at it from the perspective of just going into a place to piss/shit and wash my hands before I leave.

If you are a woman I'm pretty sure you are more comfortable using a bathroom that is for other women where other women use the bathroom. Similarly most men are probably most comfortable using a bathroom for men where other men use the bathroom. Biological sex seems unrelated to me.

I'm just speaking for myself here, but if I woke up today in a woman's body, I think I would feel more comfortable going into the woman's room than the men's room. But that would likely be due to the obvious issues I'd expect to face from doing so.

What's amazing is that the superintendent's policy was still discriminatory and the Lt. Governor was still upset. If the policy was followed, the Lt. Governor's concerns are actively impossible. It only demonstrates that the idea of trans women being rapists is an idea invented to justify hatred.

When Ted Cruz said "it is simply crazy and the idea that grown men would be allowed alone in a bathroom with little girls -- you don't need to be a behavioral psychologist to realize bad things can happen", the first thing that came to my mind was that yeah, no one would want to run into him in the bathroom, and no one would want their children approaching him.

I think most teenage boys would love to peep in the girls bathroom once, especially in the showers. I could even see one the class clowns dress up as a girl one day in order to get 'access' to the girls bathroom. So I think the 'identifies consistently as a girl' addendum is a good stipulation. Come to school in a dress for two straight weeks, get a signed note from the parents that Jack will henceforth be known as Jacqueline and I think you can weed out the pranksters and creeps.

I may understand some of the concern, I don't really understand the fervor of the debate. School's rules. Don't like it, go somewhere else. I thought this was America.
