While the fact that he was in it was fairly well known, I don't think I'd go out of my way to piss on other people's enjoyment of the film.

There is NO FUCKING SPOILER in the title. It's not about being inconsiderate, it's about having to deal with people who I honestly am starting to think are just insane. The definition of a spoiler can now be -anything- at all. It's nonsensical. This isn't people being inconsiderate, this is spoiler culture trying to turn any normal discussion and debate into accusations of people ruining something for others when they're not.

dude calm down
people took issue with it just change the title and be done with it

As someone who's seen the movie I quite liked his performance. Spoiling this just for the super sensitive people, but it doesn't contain any plot details, just discussions of his delivery

So I was expecting him to be this big booming, dramatic figure, and while he's definitely big the actual vibe I got off of the performance was, weirdly enough, closer to Jeff Bridges in Tron Legacy. It threw me for a loop but I think I actually like it

And that's why spoiler culture is stupid.

Ugh. Get over yourself. nobody here is concerned with any sort of spoiler culture. Is it not possible to just be courteous to others? Instead of trying to quantify the countless people who don't like spoilers into a "culture", just realize it's a natural human desire to want to see things for yourself the first time around.

Like I said, spoilers can be different things for different people. Plot elements can range from characters, to dialogue, to jokes.. even pieces of music! Anything can be a considered a spoiler because having knowledge of that thing can spoil the experience.
I don't think you'll get far with that line of thought here. This is a discussion forum, and if any piece of information is enough to possibly ruin a piece of creative work for you, then it's probably best to avoid places like this.

I genuinely did not know that Thanos was in this movie, but it's not the OP's fault that I missed this fact that is public knowledge. The only person to blame in my case for the misunderstanding was myself.

Oh? Anyway, what's done is done.

No, that's fucking bullshit Sculli.

They have officially announced the character is in the movie -multiple- times, not just at Comic-Con. The only reason they didn't put him in a trailer is because they wanted fans to see him in the theater. The fact that a collection of jackasses didn't notice/care about a press release is not GAF's concern, or the OPs.

Ya'll are this close to me just dropping in spoilers for the entire movie in here, that way you guys have something to actually complain about

That's exactly how I always imagined Thanos acting (except in his super early days). Glad to hear that's the direction they're taking him.

They can avoid publicly announced things about the movie if they avoid the internet. There, everyone's happy.

hey heyyyyy let's not get crazy now my good friend

You not knowing something doesn't make it a spoiler.

JoJo Part 3 features a dog as an ally of the protagonists
^Someone who follows the JoJo Part 3 anime, for example, would not know that, but it is treated as a spoiler.

I'm only slightly bothered by having seen this thread title, since I wanted to be surprised that Thanos shows up, especially since I didn't expect him to show up in the movie in the first place despite this being set in space/Cosmic Marvel setting. It's mostly be 'blacking out' what character could appear in it so when they do appear it would be something I would've been pleased to discover through watching the movie itself.

Not when any conceivable thing can be counted as a spoiler, when that's clear twisting of the meaning of the word.

If you're that concerned about spoilers then it's your own prerogative to avoid said spoilers and not for the world to babysit you from them.

Looks like a power rangers villian. Like a pallette swap of Lord Zedd or something. Looks worse than the green goblin in the OG spider man movie.

"FIRST LOOK AT BATISTA AS DRAX" HEY put that in spoilers bro I don't watch tv, I didn't want to know.

This would have been a better approach for the topic title IMO. "First look at Josh Brolin as Thanos" sounds less like a spoiler for people who aren't following Marvel's advertising.

I'm confused as to why the response to people asking for some consideration seems to be personal attacks and name calling.

So you're saying Rita Repulsa will be in Age of Ultron?

He was played by this guy, Damion Poitier.

I love Brolin as an actor ....but LOOK AT THIS DUDE !

He was BORN to play Thanos

If someone is that sensitive to discussion of popular culture, perhaps a forum that exists to discuss popular culture isn't the place for them. I see people in this thread using whether or not it was in the trailer as being the test for whether it's fair game, but there are plenty of people on GAF who won't watch trailers for fear of spoilers (see Interstellar threads, among others), going on complete media blackouts. Do we have to tiptoe around them too?

I'm so glad to see some pushback against how insane the spoilerphobia has become. It's been getting out of hand for a while now.

If anything it sounds like a "spoiler culture" belongs to people like you; those who are obsessed with getting away with spoiling shit that's questionably not spoilers. Believe it or not it's actually easier for douchebags not to spoil things than it is for those who don't want things spoiled to avoid the internet.

If they announced that JoJo "spoiler" in promotional material before the anime came out I would not consider it a spoiler, same deal here with Thanos.

If you want to classify press releases and promotional material as spoilers, then this is a spoiler. That's really the end of it. The rest of the world will spin on.

Does Josh Brolin just wear that glove now?

Also since I have no idea what JoJo is beyond a Bizarre Adventure then that spoiler isn't a spoiler at all... just for example.

Characters announced in press releases are unquestionably not spoilers.

One interesting question is whether - in retrospect, people would consider some of the big Prometheus trailer reveals being put in topic titles as spoilers?

And where should us douchebags go to discuss something like this? A super secret forum so that you may go about unspoiled? Or is Brian Williams a douchebag too if he reports it on TV? What about those douchebags at Hasbro and Lego that make toys that spoil things?

I consider trailers as spoiler.

And don't get me started on Prometheus... That trailer showed all.

Well it's an off-theater-screen shot, but it looks, dare I say it, cartoonish.
Does anyone know if it's CG + mocap or practical effects/makeup?

Yes because your average movie goer reads press releases.

Don't play dumb. Do it in this thread, with SPOILER listed in the title. It's not hard. It's really immature to argue that this is okay. "Well I don't consider it a spoiler, so you deal with it!"

I'm watching season 1 of JoJo now, decided to test your theory and highlight that "spoiler"... nope, not a spoiler. Doesn't alter my enjoyment at all and doesn't give away any major plot points or ruin any suspense for me.

If you know about Cosmic Marvel I dunno how you could expect Thanos to not be in this movie.

I'm guessing it'll either shape change to fit, or it will dematerialize into a beam of energy filling up one of the gem spots on the gauntlet.

Minor spoiler about the shape of the stones:

The orb thing you've seen in the trailers is not the stone, it's a container for the stone inside it. The actual thing is shaped like the gems you know from the books, so I think the Tesseract might also be a kind of container and maybe they're going to be moving more towards the traditional gem shapes from here on out.

If they announced that JoJo "spoiler" in promotional material before the anime came out I would not consider it a spoiler, same deal here with Thanos.

...but the spoiler content is from the manga (the anime is based on/adapting) and is known by anyone who read the manga. One who follows the animated adaptation only would not know about said character.
How would it be any different that promo material that one could not have followed/watched or avoided watching?

One interesting question is whether - in retrospect, people would consider some of the big Prometheus trailer reveals being put in topic titles as spoilers?

That's hindsight. The trailers ruined almost every major plot point but nobody knew that before launch, but discussing the trailers in of themselves would have been fine.

Bro, this was in the marketing. If you're doing an information blackout then you already screwed up being on a forum. It's not the OP's fault that you didn't know and the OP shouldn't have to assume that you don't know.
