The 8Bitdo SNES30/SFC30 is the best (retro) controller I have ever owned.

You know, I now remember seeing this video recently. I thought I'd seen something like this. I'll definitely keep my eye on it, but my problem - once again - is the fact that they put four buttons on it instead of 2. So close ... If they make a SNES one I am DEFINITELY down with that. That is the fulfillment of a dream and an instabuy for me.

Can you make the L and R buttons work as ZR and LR tho? To use with DKTF?
 
I contacted them a bunch too about making adapters for the consoles also. I told them they are missing a huge opportunity with the retro market.

I actually bought this to replace the stock Retron 5 (yes, yes, I know...) controller since it's supposedly compatible. Still hasn't arrived, but most impressions are positive, so I'm looking forward to it.
 
Holy hell that controller looks incredible. I remember seeing the NES one and thinking the NES pad with 4 red buttons looked like an abomination, but if the build quality on the SNES pad is on par with the OG pad, I'll buy 50.

Only question: When it mimics a Wiimote, can it act as a classic controller? If so I could sell off my SFC Classic Controller.

No, it acts as a Wii remote on its side. Works fine for stuff like NSMB and NES or TG16 Wii VC.

Yes to both the shoulder buttons are next to each other kinda like this "- -" and the sticks do click in. Essentially all the functionality of a Wii U pro controller or 360 controller minus analogue triggers.
 
Just ordered an SFC30. I always preferred the SFC buttons to the U.S. SNES ones. I also read on their website that there's a firmware upgrade to make it work wirelessly with the retron 5. That is amazing news and pushed me over the edge to get it.

I have an NES30 but I can't find it, I didn't like the build quality or shape and really wanted an SNES version of it. I'm glad that there's finally a proper wireless SNES pad.
 
As much as I don't need more controllers lying around the house, I'm really tempted to get this. Never really been completely satisfied with using a 360 controller to play 2D PC games, and this looks perfect. Would also be great for playing virtual console stuff.
 
I just found my NES30, I upgraded the firmware and paired it to the retron 5. It works perfectly, I can't wait for the SFC30 to get here. Finally proper wireless retro gaming with a great SNES pad.

2 player will have to contend with this boxy monstrosity.

The real shame is that I can't get the bugger working properly in Wii mode because it detects it as a Wii remote rather than a classic controller. I also can't seem to get any (Wii) emulators to detect it to reconfigure keys, but then I wouldn't be able to use the L & R buttons even if it did.

Classic Controller support would make this the best purchase I've made in a while!

I think that's normal. So it'll work for stuff like NSMB and NES or TG16 VC, but its use is otherwise limited. I wonder if they can incorporate CC support with a firmware update. I hope so!
 
So from my previous ramblings of issues with the NES30 Pro I tried my friends controller and no problems whatsoever. Seems like I did in fact just get a bad controller. I didn't get to try PC games though.
 
Quick question for Rich!, when you took apart the controller to swap buttons did you take any pictures of the PCB?

I only ask as I know the FC30 had problems with the D-pad due to the PCB contacts being designed differently to the original Famicom/NES controllers.

It appears that the button colours/shape is not the only difference between the SNES30 and the SFC30. I'm actually really impressed by 8Bitdo's attention to detail, as they have even used the more purple/lilac shade of grey for the controller plastic, and have changed the ABXY font used, just like the original SNES/Super Famicom controllers:-

Oh cool, I have their NES30 controller but I had no idea they released SNES/SFC versions!

I've had one of these for a while, don't use it much though, but I've spent so long in the past on multiple occasions looking for a wireless SNES controller for my PC! Now there finally is one, I can replace my Buffalo USB SNES controller..
 
I asked this in another thread, but never got a reply. In terms of using this controller on a Wii, is it limited to Wii Remote emulation (d-pad, and 1 and 2 button only)? Or does it detect it as a Classic Controller (meaning you could use all the face buttons)?

What about in the homebrew channel? Can I use this to play SNES games in the SNES emulator, with full button mapping?

I only know the answer to the first question. It's recognized as a Wii Remote, so you can pretty much only use it for stuff like NES or TG16 Virtual Console games, or titles like New Super Mario Bros Wii.

If anyone bought the nes30 pro for use with a Retron 5, I'd like to save you some frustration. First, it will not work with firmware 1.61. You have to get 1.62 from the Fc30 pro section of the website. Secondly, although instructions state to pair it with the Retron using power+L2, I could not get it to do so despite a myriad of attempts. I did get it to pair by using power+Y, and it worked pretty much perfectly then. Hope this helps. It's a slick controller, ridiculously better than the stock Retron controller, albeit a bit small for my tastes.
 
I got one of these, and I can't seem to figure out how to properly use it with my phone or Windows tablet. Stepmania sees the controller, but won't let me map the buttons.
 
I picked one up last week (SFC30) and I love it to death. The build quality is fantastic, and it's pleasantly versatile and cross-platform. I forgot just how much better 2D games are with a controller built around 2D games.
 
I used this on my WiiU and was hoping it'd play nice with Tropical Freeze. While running, grabing and jumping works fine, it seems to disconnect everytime I do the ground-pound move (alternate L and R shoulder buttons rapidly). Anyone know of a fix?

never happened to me...try updating the firmware, maybe?

on a similar note, this controller is AMAZING for Yoshi's Wooly World. It basically plays exactly like Yoshi's Island SNES with it!
 
It's a great controller, but I recently discovered I can't use a PS3 DS3 along with it on my Pi. Kind of disappointing, as it'd be cool to play a 2 player game with one person using the FC30 and another using the DS3.
 
This looks pretty awesome. If the quality is that good hopefully they are successful. I'm kind of tempted, but I realize it's only because of nostalgia and I don't really have any need for it.

Got one of them myself, it's 8bitdo's nes30 pro. Solid in use and gameplay since I've had it, only complaints are the cheap feeling plastic chassis, the kinda annoying led status strips on the side, and the fact that it's not an x-input controller so you'll be doing a lot of keybinding and even then some games just flat don't work with it (cook, serve, delicious :( )

That's surprising considering the SNES30 pad feels as premium as you can get - even to the point where it feels better than the official SNES pad.

I don't find that the chassis feels cheap at all. It's actually rather slick and well made.

Wow thanks for the quick but good mini review! I am really happy to have stumble upon this thread because the nes30 pro seems to be my dream controller! Now I need find out the cheapest option to buy it from Germany. The official 8bitdo website doesn't seem to sell it.

You are really lucky to have found a SNES in that good condition, I wanted to do same project but I just fail in finding a broken PAL SNES with no yellowing.

Even in some cases where it is supported the button-mapping is all messed up. Hope they add this in a future firmware, if possible.

No, but it should work decently in any game that doesn't use L and R, since they are the only buttons on the controller not mapped to anything.

Power+R1 supposedly puts you in xinput mode with recent firmware. Haven't tried it myself.
