Griffey injured again! Torn hamstring, out for the year.

When was the last time he had an injury free season? Geez!

Cubs beat the Padres, Zambrano is our real ace

Yup. After those couple of rocky outings in a row he is coming back to his early season form. We are going to need him like this in the playoffs. Wood is coming back too. The one pitcher I worry about right now is Prior. Something seems off with him. I hope it is just rust. Two out of three against San Diego is all I want. Now we need to win tommorrow.

LOL just saw that Pittsburg hit a two run homer in the bottom of the 11th to beat the Giants!!!

griffey would a perfect fit for DH in tampa bay. they could use a star with a name, and that young team needs more veteran leadership.

Of course they are -- you dont have diamond-hard nipples in 80 degree weather if they're real. But who gives a shit? They look amazing.
With this chick and Mrs. Benson, I think the words 'nipple' and 'tits' have been used more than they ever have in a GAF sports topic. Not that I'm complaining as long as there are pics. ;)

Braves won again. Yay! Smoltz needs to be pitching at the end of 57 games this year in order to get that one year contract extentsion. Right now, he's at 42 games. Surely he can end 15 games in a little less than two months!

Griffey injured again! Torn hamstring, out for the year.
lol. It's kind of funny, but really sad to see such a great career kept from reaching its full potential. I don't think he'll ever get back to his younger days (Mariners really).

Damn, Jeff Weaver has been lights out lately. I remember the first time I saw him pitch when he was on Detroit, my jaw fell open at the break on some of his pitches. I knew he would bounce back after struggling for a time, and boy has he with flying colors. That Yanks trade has worked out nicely for the Dodgers with Weaver pitching great and Brazoboan (sp) already in the bigs and looking good.

Hopefully Bradley's hammy issue is nothing serious.

mickey mantle hit a ball 565 feet during a game.

supposedly, though these are estimates, he hit one 734 feet. Also, this one accurately marked he hit one 650 feet in college. The same game he hit one around 600. Do a search on Mantle's farthest homeruns. He's got a number of homers over 600 feet and in the guiness book of records itself he holds the record for the farthest homerun with that 734 foot shot.

LOLZ WE LOST OUR TWO BEST HITTERS FOR OVER HALF THE YEAR. LET'S SEE WHERE THE CUBS WOULD BE WITHOUT ARAMIS AND ALOU/LEE MISSING OVER HALF THE YEAR.

you guys had prior and wood out for periods, but nowhere near as long as maggs and thomas. so yeah, laugh it up. it'll be that much sweeter when the cubs pull their annual choke job.

Landed Mets /ASTROS tickets last May for today's game. By sheer luck I'm attending an awesome pitching matchup---Zambrano and Pettitte.

Too bad Pettitte's gimpy... :( He'll probably go 5-6 innings. And V. Zambrano..meh.

I'd take the tickets anyway though lol. early game, 11:10 central time..

Hahahahahaha. After all the injuries the Cubs team has gone through this year, I can't believe you tried to pull the injury card!

certainly not worth trading Kazmir for. DUMB DUMB move by the Mets. Tampa Bay just might be good in a few years.

It makes me hit my head against a wall. No Kazmir for Soriano, but yes for Zambrano! And while we're at it, let's trade other top prospects for a pitcher we can get IN FREE AGENCY IN THREE MONTHS

sometimes i hate being a mets fan

Man, I can't believe how well the Dodgers are playing. It truly brings a tear to my eye. I really dont see how we can lose the West this year at this point.. and history is sure on our side.

This team blows. GO...um...rangers?

No, go Texans. Astros have taken a back seat. I can't wait til a Roger Clemens sunday start gets about 10,000 in attendance. While the Texans have sold out the stadium, the Astrodome, as well as the Center/Arena, all displaying the Texans kicking the Raiders/Chargers's asses.

but see, none of your impact players have been out for nearly as long as Maggs and Thomas. You can't even begin to tell me Borowski is as important as ordonez or thomas.

yeah, cubs had a lot of injuries, but nothing that kept two of the top 4 players on the team out for over half the season.

and it's not an excuse really. teams get hurt, you have to try and play around it. but the injuries were too great to warrant a LOLZ because they're not gonna make the play-offs. it shouldn't be expected.

Oh for Christ's sake, Darren Dreifort fucking sucks. WHY DID WE TRADE MOTA? WHY? WHY? WHY?!

I H8 Dreifort sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo much. But why do the Dodgers keep putting him in the setup role when they already know he sucks under pressure. GAH!

Meier

Dodgers should seriously just release him. This is last year under his contract I believe and even if we only get a slight bit of cap space from it, we could surely try and trade for a setup man for the stretch run from someone..

I was hoping they would use Alvarez in the setup role but since Penny got injured that forced him back into the starting rotation. Dreifort was doing so good pitching in the 7th setting it up for Mota, what happened!?!?!

It's all mental. Dotel used to be one of the best set up men in the biz along with Mota, etc..moved to a closer role, and he stinks.

I would have to agree because ever since he was moved to his new role, he never looks comfortable out there.

NOOOMMMMAAAARRRRR!!!!

Two run homer in the bottom of the 7th to put the Cubbies ahead!!! Cubs back up 4-3!! Damn, I wish I could see this game on TV right now! I bet Wrigley is going crazy!!!

Anyway, looks like it doesn't matter 'cause our bullpen fucking sucks.

I just noticed Brian Giles isn't so good this year. His OPS is .813. I'd blame it on petco but it's even lower on the road (.799).

The Pirates got LHP Oliver Perez 7-6 3.12 ERA 1.13 WHIP (22 years old!) and OF Jason Bay .309 avg .963 OPS (25 years old) and they're cheap!

I'm sure there were other members to the deal but that alone is looking damn good for the Pirates.

sheffield is in such pain that he's considering retiring after this season :(

i hope he changes his mind, the guy is a monster with a bat and an above average right fielder. the yanks haven't had a right fielder in years and just when they get one he might retire after juts one season.

he says he's not playing at the level he wants to be playing at...hes on pace for 40hr, 120rbi, and a near .950ops... :O

Wow, Ryan Dempster is back! Another great example of the brilliance of the Reds medical staff. Last year he complains about his wrist, they examine it, dls for a while, comes back, gee it still hurts buts why not just pitch some more. Then come to find out whatever it was that was bothering him was completely torn so he needed surgery. Not to mention the whole Griffey, Kearns, and Larkin fiascos that take place every year where a minor day to day injury where they ok the player to actually try and come back and play turns out to be serious.

And he still sucks!

Uhhh, fuck. Cubs handed another game away today. 10 walks, 15 hits, and San Diego can only score five runs?! We should have lost this game 20-4.

Dusty needs to move Sosa down in the lineup. Fuck his pride. He can't produce for shit. 0 for 5 with 4 Ks today. We need some damn production out of our clean up spot. How many more games do we have to lose before Dusty makes a change?! Seriously, how many teams can consistently win with your number 4 hitter is batting under .050 in the last couple weeks and constantly strikes out?!? Good grief. If Sosa doesn't get moved it is going to cost us our wild card playoff birth.
