I don't think I've people trying so hard to pick nits at a movie as this topic. A whole bunch of so-called "plot holes" or complaints either were explained before or don't at all warrant a shocked face and a pointed finger.

Movie was fine. There's been far worse superhero shit, like Hulk and X-Men 3.

I'll post my review later tonight.

It was solid. I'm glad I went to see it, but it's not a movie I'll watch multiple times. (Once again via Netflix, and that's about it.) I guess I just didn't care for a reboot again, but the movie was still fun.

I was just happy to see Spidey on the big screen again. The new costume was tight. Garfield did a good job. Stone (hhhhnnnnnggg) is way hotter than Dunst. They had alright chemistry, but some of it felt forced
(her being the head intern)
. Sheen was serviceable for the role. Leary was also serviceable for his part. Neither were great.

But the Lizard...just no. Maybe I should've stayed away from GAF, but damn it, the Lizard really does look like a fucking goomba. :lol He just looked bad on screen. But really, how can a giant lizard-man not look ridiculous on screen? His fights with Spidey were good, not great. I hoped for more action overall, actually. Also, I would've liked more scenes of Parker building the web shooters.

And no, ASM isn't punching at the same weight of The Avengers, or Batman. Not even close. :lol

Overall, ASM is a solid reboot for Spider-man. Nothing great, or even fresh for Spidey on the big screen. The sequel should be much better with the origin story out of the way.

Also, I'll go ahead and say it; Spider-man needs to be in the Avengers. Quit dicking around. The end credits scene was lame. Should've been Nick Fury in there, damn it.

This just felt like that wanted the payoff of the origin story in Raimi's first Spiderman, but with none of the actual work or layering.
This sentence sums up my entire problem with this movie: There's absolutely no emotional weight or proper build up to anything. Not Ben Parker's death not Doctor Conner's first transformation, not
George Stacy's death
, nothing really. The most suspenseful and tense bit in the film was the
bit where Peter saved he kid. For a second I legitimately though they were going to let the kid die
. Everything else felt like the creators were trying to force you to feel something that wasn't earned.

I also thought the writing, for the most, part was either ineffective or just poor. To go back to Ben Parker's death, I thought it was petty how Peter throw's a fit just because
the cashier wouldn't let him slide on two pennies and refuses to do anything about the criminal.
It wasn't like in Raimi's Spider-Man when the owner screws Peter out of thousands of dollars after getting his ass kicked in the wrestling ring. Dude gets petty over some damn
chocolate milk.
Not only that but Ben Parker
stupidly dives for the gun
because...why exactly? I guess I just didn't empathize with anything during that part. Then you have other stuff like the
8 minute serum, Peter leaving his fucking name on his damn camera despite bringing it with him with the clear intention of taking pictures of Spider-Man, the horrible crane bit, the fact that the city didn't hate Spider-Man (or it felt like the city wasn't aware of him), among other niggling things.
On the plus side I thought the acting was pretty damn good for the most part. Andrew Garfield was a great Peter Parker/Spider-Man. Brought the right amount of nerdy and cocky to both characters. I've also decided Emma Stone is going to be my future wife one day although I don't think Gwen Stacy is as interesting a character as Mary Jane was. In fact Emma Stone would of made a fantastic Mary Jane.

Any who, those are my thoughts on the movie. I'd probably give it a 6/10.

Edit: Oh yeah forgot to add that the Lizard's design was terrible.

Honestly, with the Amazing Spider-Man, it seems like Sony just blew its load on what was supposed to be a dry run, and I guess you could say they have quite the mess on their hands.

Saw the movie a second time (I get in for free, sue me.)

I like it. I think it has some missed potential here and there, and I really wish the "untold story" bits weren't cut, because it does feel like pieces are missing here and there.

I just rewatched Raimi's Spider-Man, and while it's enjoyable, I don't think it holds up very well. For me, TASM takes the cake. It's surprising to me, because I was never terribly excited about the reboot. I think Webb did a great job with it.

I dont know what you guys are smoking, the CG was fantastic. The whole Lizard vs Spiderman fight in the highschool was done entirely on CG, there was no set, no actors, no nothing.

People saying the CG looked awful must be be smoking some strange stuff. Its not mindblowingly perfect, but its definitely a very good, and leagues ahead of most of what Ive seen from Image Works before.

I'm in the same boat as you. I was shocked that everything in that fight was totally CG.

You guys have seen the terribad Raimi CG, right?

We just got back, and I have to say....I was pretty disappointed.

Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone nailed their roles. But everything else just felt...off, or forced. I won't get into specifics, as they've pretty much been covered, but this move just really felt like it was lacking something.

Really? I had no idea. If that's true then it's really well done. Source?

The Lizard's design still looks horrible though.

I'ts basically Ditko's lizard on steroids

I guess most people wanted the snot. I was ok with it but snot + more time with the lab coat on would have been nice, just for iconic purposes.

Enjoyed the movie. It seemed to have some pacing problems but all of that was overshadowed by how much better I liked Garfield's Spiderman. I also laughed several times during this movie which I don't remember doing in the original trilogy. In short: Garfield > Macguire. Only gripe with Garfield as Spiderman is that there is no way someone like Garfield can be described as a "nerd", even with his glasses on (although they helped).

I don't know if I'd rank this above Spiderman 1 or 2 for various reasons but it was still a fun fun movie.

In terms of the recent string of Marvel movies I saw:

Avengers > Thor > Amazing Spiderman > Captain America

I'm in the minority on GAF who thought Captain America was a snoozefest (not terrible not not great either).

Really disappointed. All of the promised "untold story" was just nothing but a modern day remake of Raimis first Spidey.

Pros
- Garfield played a better Peter. He looked and acted more like a teen with super powers.
- Emma is hot. she wasn't a typical damsel in distress.
- Great action but nothing memorable. School fight being the best.
- Best Stan Lee cameo ever.
Cons
- Nothing new. Came in expecting a nice new story about his parents or even Peter himself and got NOTHING. Oh, wait there was a HORRIBLE bing montage where he learned his parents died in a crash. I'm guessing after they ran out on him for something that was NEVER revealed.....yet.
- Stupid secret ending. Looks like they're going to drag the parents origin for the sequel. Lame.
- Lizard looked horrible. His design just looked very cheap.
- Worse score ever. My mind is just exploding reading so many people "loved" it. I couldn't even tell what supposed to be the main theme. Nothing stood out at all. Anyone saying it's better then Elfman's theme is just wrong. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0Ac4xamCIgY
- Aunt May sucked. Not Sally, just the way her role was written. Rosemary Harris was strong, smart and guided Peter through out the trilogy with great (sometimes cheesy) advice. This Aunt May was....just there. When Ben died in Spidey 1, I felt more sad for Aunt May then Peter. Every time she broke down talking about him just hurt so bad. Hope she has a bigger role in the next one.
- Uncle Ben's death. Raimi did it perfect. His death and advice helped push him to be a hero and use his super powers for good. In ASM, he just died...and no inspirational quotes till the end. Just so Sony can show off their shitty out dated looking phones.
- Oops forgot to add the crane scene. I'm all for NY pride moments. I actually liked them a lot in the Spidey movies despite oozing cheese. This scene just really didn't make any sense. Also chuckled when i saw the big American flag.

6/10 Wasn't bad but nothing great, Just average. I can't put it in the SM3, XM3, Green Lantern, IM2 shit list. But doesn't belong in the TDK, Avengers, SM2, X2, IM1 elite list either.

it's been speculated with solid info that Sony just decided to cut that whole thing out at the last minute to build up on it for a sequel

super lame

Wow, just saw it. What a safe and terribly bland film. Relationship progression was botched across the board and the crane scene was gymnastics/Lost World bad.

I loved it. I thought they nailed Peter Parker and Spider-Man.

True story: my friend and I saw Avengers again for the second time before we saw Spider-Man, and neither of us felt that the quality and greatness of Avengers made Spider-Man any less enjoyable.

I liked it. I thought it was better than Raimi's interpretation of Spider-man. It wasn't too sappy with the romance and this version of Spider-man wasn't too "toolish" (I'm not sure that's the word I"m looking for).

I originally was bothered by the costume, but I really didn't notice it too much in motion. The way they captured the poses and moves was like in the comics which was great. The same with the what The Lizard looked like, I thought it looked bad in screenshots, but it wasn't as bad in motion as I thought it'd be. I wish that he was more Lizard like still. They might have wanted to make people believe it was the beginning evolution of his lizard form.

That's all I can think of now.

Honestly don't get why the fuck their story has to spread through 2 whole movies. They're getting better treatment then most villains.

TTo go back to Ben Parker's death, I thought it was petty how Peter throw's a fit just because

Not only that but Ben Parker
stupidly dives for the gun
because...why exactly? I guess I just didn't empathize with anything during that part.

He goes for the gun because he believes that if people CAN make a difference, they should.

Ben tries to get this across to Peter multiple times, and also tries to teach him that getting petty revenge is...petty.

Peter doesn't GET that until Ben dies, that's the whole point. It doesn't matter if it was a sleazy wrestling manager or a store clerk, neither one deserves to be gotten back at. But Peter's young and still gets off on petty vendettas like getting back at Flash. Which has no immediate consequences. And then when he gets the jerk cashier back, THAT time had consequences.

A hero doesn't get revenge, he does what is right.

Average movie. Didnt help the deluxe theatre with the big screen broke down with them moving us to a smaller screen.

They nailed Peter and Gwen, the reactions to Peter changing were a laugh riot, better than the original Spiderman in retrospect.

But the movie seemed to drag on for a bit and was all over the place at times.

Saving grace the School Fight Sequence. Very well done.

The CGI was really good. What the fuck are people talking about?

I thought the lizard looked totally stupid, but that's got nothing to do with the quality of the CGI.

Did anyone besides me expect to hear the full "With great power" line to be said on the voice-mail to Peter? If not there then at least Peter to have an internal monologue where he actually says it as a simplified version of what Uncle Ben told him earlier?

I dunno, I have this feeling that Peter will say it in the classic way in the next movie while he's talking to Gwen or someone else who knows he's Spider-Man.

Saw this tonight without reading any reviews (professional or gaffers). Satisfied, good-not-great. I would say

SM2 > ASM > SM1 > SM3

Lizard was cool... except the face. The face was horrible. It needed to be longer, more lizard like. It looked really dumb, but the rest of him looked cool.

Other than the Lizard's face the CG was really really good (saw that link, amazing that whole fight scene was CG only)

Uncle Ben's death wasn't as good. I mean, the situation was better than Raimi's version in my opinion (it was even more Peter's fault), but there was hardly any weight behind it.

Lot's of hit-or-miss stuff (more hit than miss, usually). Sometimes Garfield and Stone had really good cute/awkward chemistry together, other times it felt forced or over-acted. Some of Spidey's wise cracks were pretty dumb, some were funny.

Everything else was good as far as I can remember. I hope they stick with Gwen and don't bring in an MJ, and I really hope they stay away from the villains from the Raimi movies (even Osborne/Goblin), except maybe Venom.

I'd give it an 8/10
