Some people had recomended this band to me about a month ago, and during my lunch break I noticed that a local record shop had put their debut album "Funeral" out early (street date is tomorrow).

Absolutely fantastic band from Montreal, the clerk said it reminded him of Roxy Music and Broken Social Scene, which I whole-heartedly agree with.

Anyone heard them previously? What do you think?

I just noticed that Pitchfork reviewed it today with a score of 9.7. Let the indie snobbery commence.

It was at Bubble Records in Kent, WA. I was down in Auburn visiting my parents and going to the dentists office earlier today, I stopped by before coming into work.

It's out tomorrow dude, hell, go to Easy Street at midnight, they'll sell it to you.

I heard there was an EP, but I was never able to find it. A friend of mine has been pimping the hell out of them after he saw them live in New York.

Pitchfork's review is terrible. If I hadn't heard them prior to it, I would walk away from that article with less knowledge of the band than I had beforehand.

How big of a release is this? A couple places here broke street date for Bjork. But then again they didn't break date for SY and Pj Harvey.

Also tomorrow -- Decemberists single for Billy Liar.

EDIT: That review was terrible. By the end of the review, I didn't even know what genre the band played.

Argh. I saw Pitchforks review and figured I still probably wouldn't get this, but if they're anything like Broken Social Scene my wallets going to be fifteen dollars lighter by tomorrow afternoon.

All I know is, for all the jerk-off reviews Pitchformedia has, they sure have hepped me to a lot of music I wouldn't have been checking for (Broken Social Scene, The Like Young, etc).

I totally agree, they have exposed me to many great bands, but they still pretty much have their heads up their assess most of the time. They typically like fantastic records, but they also tend to hate fantastic records.

Pitchfork's quality has gone downhill immensely over the past 2-3 years, but they're still a good place to keep track of news and releases. I've got turned on to many bands through them.

Should be out today now. I've had the leak for a few weeks now and I can say it's 100% worth the purchase. I plan on picking it up later today.
