There's always this fake surprise people put on when talking about how much of a monster he was at guitar, like, "You know who can actually shred, bro?" I'm glad that it faded and people started generally accepting the fact that he was talented as fuck.

I know there's a current of people that mention how many famous people die in other years and how this year is no different, but at this point, when it comes to not just musicians but musical legends, it's hard to deny that 2016 has been a rough year.

I didn't listen to much Prince, but he was always a big part of my musical life. You'd always hear people talk reverently about his music.

Damn, :/ So young too.

WTF is going on?

Batman soundtrack had some jams on it. Electric Chair and Lemon Crush were some of my faves.

Honestly, people seem to stop right at Batdance and not realize that the rest of the tracks aren't anything at all like that one.

And aren't we entitled to just one silly novelty song every so often?

I'm at work and I found out. I had to stop myself from breaking down because I'm so distraught. Seriously one of my top favorite musicians of all time.

So many memories of being young and my parents playing Prince records in the house.

RIP to a musical legend.

I'm so sad right now. Gaf made me discover this genius and I will never thank you enough for it. Even though Darling Nikki is my favorite song from him, If I Was Your Girlfriend is definitely a close second: such a particular and mature concept.

Ugh, RIP

As a 40 year old, 2016 has been absurd for celebrity deaths. So many people I grew up listening to, watching, etc have passed.

IMO
I won't do a "best Prince albums list" but these are all required listens:

1999
Purple Rain
Diamonds and Pearls
Sign O' The Times
Lovesexy
Come
Love Symbol
The Gold Experience
Dirty Mind
Emancipation
3121
The Hits/B-Sides
Batman Soundtrack
Prince (self-titled)

Feel free to add to it.
Only albums I didn't really care for are Chaos & Disorder, Musicology, and LotusFlow3r.
Still not even half-way through his discography, let alone whatever is in the vault.

RIP. I liked some of his songs.

Raspberry Beret will always be my favourite song.

Its been a tough year. So many massive icons have passed. But his music will live on for all time, and he will continue to inspire generations.

Thanks for the music Prince. I hope you will party like its Nineteen Ninty Nine when you get to your destination

Are we all forgetting Scandalous which I'm sure a lot of parents were happy to hear booming from their kid's room.

Feel even more thankful now that I saw him in Oakland a few months ago. He was also at a Golden State Warriors game (same arena he performed in) that same week. My seats aren't too far from where he was sitting courtside, was wild seeing him walk in with his cane and fro.

RIP.

i've been begging for over 5 years.
I got pissed at that poster earlier saying something about Prince having AIDS but the more I think about it that is a very logical explanation to his being ill with flu-like symptoms for over a month and ultimately dying due to complications of it. How reliable is media-take-out? I've only ever heard of them by way of a Kanye lyric.

A great regret I have in life will be never seeing him play live. My cousin and I idolized Prince in our teenage years. He's in my opinion one of the absolute best guitarist's and performers of our generation.

God dammit. I'm so grateful I had the change to see him perform live twice.

His albums from '78 up till '89 are just mindblowingly good. Not to mention all the great stuff he did with artists like The Time.

RIP, Prince.

After Bowie's passing I had a think about what musicians' deaths could hit me the same way and I could only come up with McCartney and Prince. What a shit year.
