Shit no. RIP. What an awful year. First Bowie and now another prodigy taken too soon.

The best act I ever saw live bar none. Farewell.

This was truly unexpected.

I'll admit I haven't delved into much of Prince's work in the 90's or after but everything from Prince (1979) to The Black Album is terrific. I kind of put off listening to the guy for a while but once I started exploring his 80's stuff, I was captivated by the brilliance of it.

RIP

I'm kinda envious of people who really don't know much about the guy because his 21st century output wasn't all that well recieved, so he's just the weird little guy who changed his name to a symbol in the 90s to them.

And they're gonna get curious and poke their toe into his catalog at some point, and come up for air about five hours later in the middle of a fucking ocean of genius.

Total shock. Prince was a supreme talent back in the day. A part of me always thought he would make a comeback or write a hit song again. Rip.

I think a lot of that is also due to his stance on digital distribution.

Fucking sucks. What sucks more is that I'm now at the age where people that I grew up watching on TV or the movies or listening to, are starting to go on a regular basis. Fuck that.

Sometimes it snows in April
Sometimes I feel so bad, so bad
Sometimes I wish life was never ending
And all good things, they say, never last

FUCK

Absolutely crushed. Man was a goddamn legend and was possibly the most talented musician still going.

It is kind of frustrating how incredibly difficult it is to find any of this music online via youtube/streaming services etc. Literally gonna have to hit up some thrift stores etc for CDs.

I was first a fan of Prince because of Batman, I heard his other stuff on Much Music and the radio here and there and enjoyed it, but I was young so I hadn't really gotten to the point where I had favorite artists and what not. Then Batman came out and I was so obsessed with that movie that my brother bought me the album. To be honest, it's a pretty mediocre album but 9 year old me loved it, I would listen to it at night when I couldn't sleep and it helped. From then on I was a big fan, there will never be another as talented. I'll admit most of his newer stuff wasn't so hot, but man, when he was on he was incredible.

I'm still in disbelief, celeb deaths don't usually hit me. But this guy was immortal in my mind.

Like I never once in my mind thought, "man, the world is gonna suck when Prince dies."

Prince dying was never a thought that came up in my mind.

Wow. 2016 might be shaping up to be that kind of year for celebrity deaths.

RIP Prince and thoughts are with his family and friends and fans taking this pretty hard.

Yup. You can see that on facebook/twitter as people scramble to find things to post.

Although, you guys thought that Jimi's posthumous output was ridiculous. You thought it was weird that Tupac kept releasing albums after his death.

If Prince's estate starts emptying that vault out?

Good God.

Shaping? Only 4 months in and it's been brutal so far. Especially for musicians.

In 2004 I got free tickets to his concert and I wasn't very enthusiastic about it. Turned out to be the best concert I've ever seen in my life, and shed a whole new light on how much of a well rounded musician he was. RIP

I'm there right now. I wasn't very familiar with his material outside of the popular stuff but I've started listening to his library beginning with For You and it's VERY good. I'm in for a treat aren't I?

R.I.P. Prince

This. I've always thought of him as one of those immortal few. I'm only 23 but when I could start to appreciate his music around my freshman year in high school it immediately stood out to me as stuff that stands the test of time.

i've been begging for over 5 years.

Whew... the thought of that maybe happening kinda helps soften the devistating blow a little bit. Just the smallest amount though. I don't think I'll ever forgive myself for never seeing him live though.

This needs to be quoted a couple times throughout this thread. He has stuff dating back all the way to the early 90s literally sitting in a vault.

I'm wondering if Jimmy or Terry will have anything that they release from him back when they all jammed out.
