Nope, Awakening is way worse about it than most of the other modern ones. It's cool that you think talking more shit about Awakening somehow proves the opposite though.

Take Anna and Farina (who isn't even available in the main story mode of FE7). Both take on the money grubbing archetype but where one is a gimmicky in-joke with little substance, the other is an actual character who has actual reasons for being money crazy. Both extremely anime, but one at least pretends to attempt to be a believable character.

Likewise you could probably make the claim that Lethe is supposed to be a "Tsundere" character but unlike Severa who barfs out generic anime baka line after baka line there is again something more to the FE9 character. You could probably compare her to Panne too but that would be grossly unfair to the latter because the Laguz actually matter and have presence in their game(s).

I don't really think Anna is much of a comparater what with her two support possibilities, and I haven't reached the majority of second gen characters either yet though. But what I was saying is that the writing is about standard, just in Tharja's case it kind of clashes with her graphical character design (which is barely even alluded to in the script).

And there's always meh characters in every game. Stahl is the most boring green cavilier I've ever seen.

Absolutely false if we take FE4 into account. I'd argue that FF9-10 had a handful of really good characters as well. And Zephiel's character growth from FE7>6 needs to be considered as well.

He (Chrom) is the main protagonist of the actual story. Your player character (Avatar) is one of the main characters, but his/her role in the story is supporting.

You control everyone in the game. But there are two main characters. One you create, and Chrom, the blue haired gentleman who is the protagonist. (Though I personally see both characters as protagonists.)

Not in fire emblem games, you are the 'tactician' who controls the battle field, you are also a playable character in this one. But the story characters are generally other people who you are just involved with.
