"The Ass Nintendo Doesn't Want You To See" (Kotaku)

Off-put, not that I wouldn't buy it. Bit painful to drop $40 on it knowing there's a bunch of DLC I'll want to get on top of that.

All the storyline relevant DLC is free, except for one currently unreleased pack that will cost at most six bucks.

The rest are just challenge maps for min-maxing.

BTW, this thread isn't good for my OCD. Libra X Nowi? Oh dear.

Of course he is, since he's a male character and apparently only female characters can be objectified. Not that it matters though. I have a distaste for blatant fan-service just as much as I dislike obtrusive censorship, so I guess this whole situation's a wash. :/

Please play the game.

Guys this whole paragraph is hilarious as fuck huh? Yeah I think so too :D It's more fun not to say why though.

Some spoilers if you havent played the game
thats not Marth, and that is actually a girl

But I agree with your sentiment.

I feel like this is a bad way to look at the situation.

Censorship is ridiculous in such a petty context.
Oh sure, it's silly to censor something like this when you can marry and have a kid with a child. Really, I'd rather they just not write in stupid pandering bullshit in the first place.

I dunno... Morrigan was a lot less of a stalker

Well... to be fair, when you first meet Morrigan, she admits to have been "watching you".

Wait, I don't get it. You...don't like Tharja? "Don't," as in, "do not?"

I don't hate her. But she does the "kinda bitchy goth spellcaster" thing way worse than Morrigan does.

With Morrigan it kinda worked better because of the approval system in place and how she would disapprove everything lawful you would do. Moreover, she had a secret motive as to why she would follow you around even though she really didn't want to.

And let's be honest. She had much more background and lines too to flesh out her character. Most of the characters in Awakening outside of a few key members barely have any background or relevance in the plot.

Hey, I fucking loved Morrigan. I'm with you, dude.

Well, Fire Emblem characters have always been one-note gimmick characters, with the possible exception of primary story characters.

Personally, I think Awakening has the best potential for better characterization due to the differences in most (I think Cherche's all relate back to Minerva, lol) of the marriage conversations, aided by the kid ones.

For example, Libra and Tharja's support is way different than MU and Tharja's.

There are some that are more one-note than others, but compare it to something like FE7 or 8, where after joining, only 2-3 non "lord" characters (who are usually princes or of equal standing) get any real characterization, and it's at least better than it used to be. FE9-10 are a bit better, but still have the same issue, especially with their gimped support systems.

She's a crazy dark skimpily dressed stalker chick who's in love with your player character for no reason and wants to kill anyone who comes near you. Its easy to see why she has attracted the fanbase she has.

But that is literally all there is to her character.

IMO, she's got a pretty non-subtle reason for being so drawn to you once you reach end-game, equally cliche though it may be.

She gets a bit deeper in her characterization in the non-MU supports (even if a lot of them do tie back to you), but I'm not arguing your reasons for her easy popularity.

Hey here's a big spoiler for Fire Emblem: Awakening that's relevant to your post.
That's a female character from the game disguising herself as Marth

There was a statue a few pages back, nintendo could make a lot of creepy money if.....

No no lets not give them Ideas they need money right now.

Not to this extent, no.

They absolutely have been. Tharja is 'creepy stalker' and that's pretty much all her personality (though way more room for characterisation due to the new support system). Weirdly, most of her dialogue (I haven't s.linked with everyone yet) doesn't seem to acknowledge she's basically only wearing an all-body fishnet under a bikini.

So yeah... her writing and characterisation is about correct for Fire Emblem, the difference primarily stems from the new character design(er)

The game's on my backlog and I'm very much looking forward to get around to it. I didn't mean to insinuate that FE:A specifically sways one way or the other. (As it seems to be obvious to you guys, I have no way of knowing that yet.) Just that the picture initially quoted seems to be a typical example of the status-quo in gaming.

It's a better representation of 'main character' v 'side character' than anything else

Kinda disappointing that Nintendo decided to go this route with the fan service garbage. I mean I guess it makes sense to fleece the people you built up with the matchmaker stuff in game proper but it still feels dirty.

So does this mean your not putting the game down till you get all the supports or is it that you haven't even beaten the ending yet because your too busy with supports?

I have postponed my finishing of FE:A because my OCD to get every support convo between every character.

Basically I am cockblocking my own army, making them fall in love and then stopping them right before they hitch up.

Don't even get me started on

Someone correct me if I"m wrong, but isn't this Marth a female?

Nope, Awakening is way worse about it than most of the other modern ones. It's cool that you think talking more shit about Awakening somehow proves the opposite though.

Take Anna and Farina (who isn't even available in the main story mode of FE7). Both take on the money grubbing archetype but where one is a gimmicky in-joke with little substance, the other is an actual character who has actual reasons for being money crazy. Both extremely anime, but one at least pretends to attempt to be a believable character.

Likewise you could probably make the claim that Lethe is supposed to be a "Tsundere" character but unlike Severa who barfs out generic anime baka line after baka line there is again something more to the FE9 character. You could probably compare her to Panne too but that would be grossly unfair to the latter because the Laguz actually matter and have presence in their game(s).

I thought about doing all the supports first before doing the end chapter but when I looked at all the supports for ALL the characters, I decided I'll work on the supports after beating the game at least once since the game doesn't "save" on the last chapter so you can keep replaying it.

Someone correct me if I"m wrong, but isn't this Marth a female?
Shush you!
yes

Fire emblem has always been anime influenced. Isn't that kind of apart of the fire emblem package.

I'll admit that Awakening left the impression that the characters were closer to archetypes than some of the previous games like FE9-10. However they didn't have 2 games to expand the world and characters and it was also missing a whole lot of narration scenes that are usually present in FE games. I seem to recall a dev interview talking about how they were experimenting with a lot of stuff. That might explain why the game is missing some things and how the plot isn't as tight as it could have been.

I finally realized where this was from! Loved this show

Maybe you should actually read the post *HINT*BOTH EXTREMELY ANIME*HINT* before farting out a reply

I did , I was being nice. I was originally going to question you for even having a discussion of which character is more "anime" ( like that is even a bad thing and stop using it as a bad thing because it isn't, how would you like if I used Video game every time i wanted to call something bad) in a bloody fire emblem game.

Its one of those questions where yes isn't the grammatically correct answer, but it is the correct answer.

I like how "anime" is used as an insult in a thread about videogames.

Lower-rung mediums (and their fans) need to know their place.

Maybe you should get over your terrible debilitating persecution complex friend since the only distinction of anime I made was between "good" anime and "bad" anime.
