**I wrote this before I saw the SPs reuniting thread**

I haven't followed him much since the disintegration of the Smashing Pumpkins. I think he is enormously talented. But, I also think he was a sum of the parts with the SPs. Case in point: Zwan (or whatever the heck is the name of the band he now leads).

Obviously, with as big of a name as he has made for himself, he is controlling all the shots with his new band. He may be getting input from other members, but he calls it.

Anyway, I heard the single from his new album a few minutes ago and I was disgusted. It sounds way too industrial, post post-alt rock. It sounds as if Flood (the lead producer from MelonChollie [sp?] - you fans know who I'm talking about) got ahold of it and went X Games extreme on it. There's not an ounce of the musician I knew from the Smashing Pumpkins there.

Its just a shame how far he has fallen since the masterpiece (imo) that is Siamese Dream [hence my name]. The sound in that album is pure magic.

I know he has stated that he never wants to copy the sound of his previous works. But, perhaps his divorce really just killed his sense of creative music that sounds good.

Edit: I haven't heard his new stuff yet, but I really, really liked Mellon Collie, even moreso than Siamese Dream. Just slightly, though. I can find at least one or two great songs on every album, except for Adore. I know everybody loves that album but me. I even liked some of the stuff on Machina.

I could get all pissed at you, but the fact that you don't recognize any of Corgan's work beyond Siamese Dream (not even Adore) proves that you aren't a real fan anyway. Zwan broke up in 2003, by the way. Where have you been?

The album sounds like something for X Games? What the fuck? Your post makes absolutely no sense whatsoever. I mean, none. You can't even properly diss Corgan's album. Stop trying to be bell woods or something, because it's not working.

What takes the cake in this thread is that siamesedreamer is stupid enough to compare TFE's production with "X Games" music. Please. Someone, ANYONE come up with a better label to put down this album, because that's the dumbest fucking thing I've read all week. Literally, the dumbest fucking thing I've read all week. I await your responses. Please make them good.

If we were to base every musician/band's actions on what they are like in real life, then everyone would be in trouble. Need I recall, "STOP DOING THAT! STOP DOING THAT OR I'M TELLING THOM! WAAHHHHH!!!!" What the fuck is that? I mean, I love Radiohead, but I'd fucking laugh in Phil Selway's face if I saw him do that.

Protip: most of your indie rock heroes are tortured, dysfunctional, scatterbrained psychos. They just do a better job of hiding it becasue they realize not as many people care anyway.

I love how everyone seems to hate Corgan to the point where it's personal. I've never seen people get so pissed off at a musician's simple demonstration of overconfidence in his music and where he wants to take his career. I mean, if you hate Corgan so much, why do you care? SP hasn't been a hot band since like '96. He's not stealing your favorite band's thunder. Zwan tanked. Corgan's solo career may likely be short-lived if he truly wants the Pumpkins back together.

Why take it anywhere when you've already reached your pinacle in Siamese Dream?

*X Games isn't the perfect synonym for what I was trying to portray. But, it sounded like shit synthecized music and that's what I came up with. Quite a fall from SD dont'cha think?*

Sure it's no Siamese Dream; you were expecting that? Billy's new album owes a lot to My Bloody Valentine, and was done so in good taste. Expand your horizons and check the band out. Then, perhaps this kind of music won't sound like "X Games."

Ouch, that's harsh. Even I like some Pumpkins songs. Geek USA for example, is an excellent song. I like most of Siamese Dream, actually. And there're a few great tracks on Mellon Collie and Adore, even if the majority sucks. :)

But yeah, Corgan's been going south ever since he went bald. :p

Man. Billy Corgan gets more hate on GAF than any musician. What's with that? I love the guy's music. Never seemed whiny to me. It always seem powerful though.

Just let this thread die into obscurity. I mean, even assuming I didn't like BC as much as I do, Socreges is more or less right. Great, you (the OP) don't like the new album, you yearn for Siamese Dream, and you can't put together much of a real criticism beyond that. Go pop in Siamese Dream or turn on the radio, and be done with it.

I suppose it's a good thing Corgan doesn't use a Mac and/or isn't a Scientologist, otherwise the shit would really hit the fan.

bottom line is that whether you hate billy corgan or the pumpkins is irrelevant. there are people in the world who love the pumpkins. there are people in the world who want the band around. its nice to throw out lame ass, played out jokes like "hey birrie it not 1995 ne more lollerskates!", but rest assured that there are people who would love to see the pumpkins back. why is that so hard to understand?
