I was confused about why there was a Corolla concept when the new one just came out, then I realised the car America gets is completely different to this.

I've seen a few around, they look pretty good apart from the overly busy rear end.

NO!

We have other options for frugalness. Such as a 560HP 25MPG Audi RS7.

Or a 28MPG C7 Corvette

I have to say I'm not the biggest fan of how Audi's fronts look like nowadays, the way they slope towards a relatively vertical front end creates a bit of a bug-like face that I don't like. I also don't think they should have placed "quattro" badging so prominently under the front grilled. OK, it's got 4WD like half of the cars out there, and everything in your lineup, big deal.

Silver doesn't do it justice.
I think it looks much better in silver.

america gets the most boring car you'll ever drive in your life. It's the car for people who don't like cars.

Damn that's a beauty. I wish a) I had more money b) it made any sense to buy a super powerful car to be stuck in traffic and 100 km/h roads :/

It looks interesting at least, which is more than can be said for the last 15 years of Corolla.

Someone up above said it best - the Corolla is the car for people that don't care about cars - it's cheap, reliable and dull as dishwater. To that end, this is fine once you take the show car nonsense (lol headlights and 20" wheels) out. I'd imagine the weird roofline would open a bit more space for back seat passengers' heads.

I've started looking at cars recently and I admittedly know next to nothing about them.

My goals are comfort and decent gas milage, I've been looking at what I would call lower tier luxury sedans 5 or less years old. Any advice?

Models I've been looking at are basically: Passat, A4, S60, Q37. Any thoughts on what would be good to look at in this category?

How much are you looking to spend and how much is reliability a major factor?

I would add the 2008 Acura TL, G37s should good for reliability as well.

If you don't mind something that might not be as reliable the 2009 and newer A4 is a nice car, probably look for a 2010 since 2009 was the first year for the new generation.

I guess around 30k I would say, if I can come in under that with something nice that would be great.

Reliability is a very important factor.

I would make a list and start driving things.

You have a ton of options depending on how close you want to get to 30k.

A really nice 2008 TL like the one I posted could be had for under 20k so I would definitely consider it if you are looking for reliability. In 2009 Acura made them fugly but they are bigger.

You can buy a new Acura for that. And you should probably consider a Hyundai Genesis too.

That is why I was looking at cars a few years older so I could move up to something put together like the S60 or A4. Are you suggesting the new Acura because of the reliability?

Also I was looking at used because I've heard that luxury sedans are some of the worst in terms of depreciation.

Yeah that is sort of what I have been doing is putting a list together and plan to start driving some stuff this weekend. It's pretty intimidating to me, particularly with all the used cars out there and how major of a purchase it is.

Thanks all, and I'd appreciate any more insight.

So, $30k, comfort, and gas mileage, 5 years old max.

Do you care about the size of the car? Hatch, Sedan, Wagon, Coupe preferences if any?

It sounds like you're looking for a mid-size sedan, so I'd second the Acura TL recommendation and even though we just spent a good long while shitting up and down on the new Lexus IS, I'd say look at the Lexus ES or the old IS.

surely you would like it? its universally disliked.

I like good, fun, attractive things, not disliked things. I mean, it's all Acura/Audi/BMW/Gencoupe here. Not hard to find things most of you will dislike.

How many of you all are over 50? Because most of y'all seem to like those kinds of cars. :\

I'm 26, but the '86 Caddy I had as my first car made me an old man when it comes to cars.

if you want a cheap reliable Audi A6 then you really should try a Hyundai genesis.

'09 through '11 Genesis sedans are going for low to mid-20's BiN on eBay right now, which would be a 'whole lot of car for the money', as they say. You can likely do better locally if you're willing to look around.

The V6 is plenty powerful, and gets slightly better mileage than either of the V8s. They're definitely big, comfortable cars, if somewhat anonymous looking, and are somewhat 'softer' and not as well-sorted overall as the German entry-lux sedans, but I think they're pretty damned nice regardless.

Yeah, I'll take the C7 over the RS7.

Also, the train wreck rolls on at Lexus...

2014-lexus-is-detroit-2013---01-opt.jpg

Good heavens, what are they thinking?

I'm staggered that something so... so, overwhelmingly ungainly can pass the modern design-by-committee process with such a pure, undiluted sense of fugliness.

The Corolla concept at least contains some interesting ideas and is a departure from the(ir) staid norm, but sadly, the most interesting bits will most likely hit the cutting room floor.

Oh and since GT5 is showcasing cars from Detroit Show, here's Acura NSX Concept:

The NSX is one of my favorite car. Too bad the old ones didn't satisfy me performance wise..too bad they never brought the nsx-r in the US.

Hopefully the new ones will keep certain characteristic of the old ones but really push boundaries performance wise.

Hopefully it doesn't weigh tons due to the added motors and batteries.
