The price of the iPod shuffle is great. Much cheaper than my Creative Muvo V200. Forcing shuffle is just retarded though. And Creative at least found room for a small display (with better battery life even).

Does anyone know where the OSX crash is during the keynote address? At what timestamp?

It's at around the 12th minute mark. Jobs handles it so much better than Gates, 'looks like we have a bug here. that's why we have backup systems' and off we go again. he actually got applause out of it

Personally, the Shuffle seems like a pretty sweet deal. I've been in the market for a 1GB USB thumbdrive for a while now and they usually run about $100-$150CAD. Some drives have the option for a mp3 adapter that runs about $50-$100CAD. So with the Shuffle I'm paying the same or cheaper price for a better quality product that integrates with iTunes and all of that. The way I listen to music is with my ears, so not having a screen isn't an issue for me, it's really not that tough to skip to the next song if one comes up that I'm not in the mood for.

And about the word processor *shrug* Everybody should be using LaTeX

It doesn't. From the apple store

electronica, Autofill a specific iTunes Playlist to your iPod shuffle and roll. Or just drag and drop individual songs or albums from iTunes onto iPod shuffle. With Play in Order mode, you manage the music. If things take a turn for the predictable, never fear. Flip the Shuffle toggle on the back of iPod shuffle and mix on the go.

I like being able to use it as a flash drive too. Handy.

... What the hell are you talking about?

as for the shuffle, aesthetically its good as usuall. but why is apple always one gen behind, the screen should be mandatory imo. please give your money to iriver and creative, they deserve it.

Bingo!

Except the Creative MuVo has a screen, an FM tuner, Voice/FM recording, and Line-In encoding for direct connection and recording from any audio source, and longer battery life.

And replaceable batteries.

iPod Shuffle... what a steal!

Once you understand that people still buy $30 CD players, you'll see why the iPod shuffle will be a huge hit.
Or do you understand and just hate it? Because if you just hate it, I totally respect that.

Ipod shuffle def seems like a ripoff. I guess if i was rich, it'd be nice to have it as a complement to the regular Ipod, like for working out or some shit, but IMO its just better to pony up the extra $100+ and get a regular Ipod. If you're gonna go, might as well go all out.

He managed to convince you that being able to choose what song you want to hear is a bad thing.

I'm entirely baffled as to how it worked. Hm...maybe you're just open to suggestions.

You will spot me the money for a fully grown iPod and not this toddler bullshit...you will...

Holy shit, you are typical in thinking that you are the only market segment Apple is selling their wares to.

OK. I did find it odd that they would do something that utterly insane.

The Muvo V200 doubles as a USB key as well.

Regular iPods ain't supposed to be used for hard workouts etc. Ninjascooters right I can see people buying this anyway for gyms, on tranist and asia etc.

Apple teh innovation!

An adapter with 2 AAA batteries can add 20hrs of playtime to the 12hrs of the internal one.
Yeah but that kinda looks like crap and makes it bigger and heavier. The Creative Muvo V200/Muvo Micro N200 does ~15 hours on a single AAA battery.

Damage control would be if I defended it blindly. I did not (see my comment on the lack of keyboard/mouse). The comment you quoted was a response to the unrealistic expectations with every Apple product. You're an idiot, and I am done with this conversation (remember, you called me out first).

Shantyman, I remember you being a very cool guy when we hung out to play VF3 so I must do this for your own good:

The iShuffle is plain old CRAP. Wake up and smell the stink, man!

I can see the justification for defending the Mac Mini, but defending the iShitful is not gonna help your cause.

Well it's time to accessorize for the iShuffle.
Add-on battery pack. Check
Add on remote with FM tuner. Certainity
Add on iTrip. Maybe
iSkin. Damn Stright.

Damn it's like a doll. So cute.

Of course they applauded, 99% of the audience there worships the ground Steve Jobs walks on and still believes in the whole Apple myth. Simple fact of the matter is that crashes happen in both OSes and it's foolish to say either is 'teh suck' for doing it during key events like this. Laugh it off and move on...

The iPod shuffle does *NOT* force shuffle play. The switch on the back lets you switch between shuffle or sequential play. I wish people would actually read the information that's available before flying off the handle. But I guess that's too much to expect.

Already knew that, but thanks for asking. I'm talking about the lack of screen, which forces blind navigation. Good luck finding a song that you have no idea where it is amongst the 1GB of MP3s!

You have to admit that Jobs is so smooth.

Haha, the Mac Mini. What's the tagline: "slightly more powerful than an Xbox, and only 3x the cost"

BUT BUT BUT LIFESTYLE COMPUTING OMG LOL MARKET TO ME PLZ

I've read that the point behind the Mac Mini is to market a cheaper way for people who aren't computer users to get a small "box" that they can hook up to a monitor, and get everything they need right from the start, since it will be preloaded with accounting software, iTunes, web browser, etc.

My question for this is, can't you already buy PCs with similar set-ups with MONITORS, printers, etc. included for $400-$500 already?

It's pretty obvious that there will be plenty of people buying this thing just because of what it looks like though. :)

Yeah, Jobs is certainly more suave when concerned to the sexy beast that is Bill Gates. But at the end of the day, which of the two ridiculously rich men is the richest? Eh?

Just got home. Got back frm CES yesterday and dropped off my friend at his place, but got stuck in the rain due to highway closure. Slept over and just got back in.

Why do you defend this crap?
I mean even iRiver fanboys admit the H300 series is the bastard child.
Sony fanboys admitted that Sony really needed mp3 playback on the NW-HD1.
Why can't you admit this atleast needs a lcd screen and fm tuner. Or is that for Generation 2?

FUCK THE SCREENS. iShuffle has answered my prayers and made me its bitch. Thank you Jobs. If you want screens get Ipod Mini, if you want bare bones cheap mp3 player which is all about the songs, get iShuffle. I don't why people are so angry about this thing.

As a big Mac supporter, I can't believe others are even wasting time defending the iPod Shuffle. It's beyond retarded on so many levels.

And this topic is a perfect example of why PC users are, to be totally honest, justified in their hate for Mac users: many simply won't admit a lemon is a lemon.

I love Macs to death as well, but I'm finding it hard not to see the iPod Shuffle as a ripoff, even at $99.

That won't stop Apple from selling a zillion units of it, though.

It certainly doesn't make me angry. More competition is always a good thing, I just think there's better existing devices in the arena that Apple will now no doubt dominate. Namely, devices like the Creative MuVo Micro N200. MP3 playback, FM tuner, voice/FM recording, line-in encoding and...gasp, a backlit LCD. Not to mention a 15 hour battery life. Yeah, you'll pay a little more for it, but it does the idea right. It's called paying for quality, come no, Apple fans live by that matra. :D

I like it, and I don't own a single Apple product.

Though it, like the rest of the iPod product line, doesn't support OGG playback, no sale. It will sell brilliantly, though, and pretty much cement the iPod as the 'Walkman of the 21st Century'. Sorry PSP.

Shog, I know you're cool too. :p BUT I will say that the mistake people on here constantly make is every individual and GAF do not make the market for these things. People like me like them, people like you don't. Just like there are things you would like I won't. People on GAF are very tech savvy, and let's face it, we are all obsessed with bells and whistles. Again, not representative of the "casuals" as they are always referred to on the Gaming Forum. I know it upsets you to your core that we like Apple, because you see things you think are so much better, but it's not going to change.

Of course, I know people like to rankle fans of Apple just to provoke the defensive reaction it always elicits.

iPod Shuffle is the first device I can think of where I am completely BAFFLED at anyone liking the idea of a media player product without a screen; it doesn't matter which company makes it, it's just a stupid idea. How much more would the same device cost with a tiny B/W LCD screen? It can't possibly make it cost that much more.

I almost wonder if Apple just didn't have anything really new to show for the beginning of this year, and just "slapped" the Mac Mini and iPod Shuffle together just to have something "new" to sell.

Fortnintety called it right. In my house, we have FOUR Macs. (I am the only one with a PC.) My dad is one of those "blind Apple supporters" and always buys Apple products. Even he is wondering what the hell the point is with the iPod shuffle.

I really don't want to defend Apple any more because the truth is I am not a blind zealot,. Of course no onle will believe me. Honestly, the mac mini is freaking tiny. The engineering/design suggests it was not "thrown together." Plus, the stated goal is to get PC users to hook it up as a "side" computer.

Man, that keynote presentation is BORING. It's cool that spotlight can search for words INSIDE documents, and smart folders are pretty neat...but I get it. What more is there to show? 15 minutes in and that's all I've really seen :p
