I mean Jojo is a classic franchise and there have been OVAs in the past but there has never been a TV series until recently. I'm aware of some of the stuff that goes on in Stardust Crusaders just due to cultural osmosis but a lot of it is still new to me and MANY others.
I haven't read the manga (though some of the writing issues I have with the show are probably in the manga as well), but anime specific problems include amateurish sound direction, mediocre direction, mediocre animation (though occasionally they go all out so I have to give them props for those instances), etc. I just don't think the production overall is strong even if I like the premise and the two main characters. Also, again, there are some issues with the writing that irk me but they are likely in the manga as well.
Season 1 of the TV show ended back in 2013? Season 2 is slated for Japan next year. Manga is still ongoing.
