Yeah this has a few layers. I personally think if she can act, direct and write, I've got no clue why they're making a big deal of it. Honestly, we let white people pick and choose historical events and subjects to write about all across the world. Some have been entirely faithful and honest despite the historical disconnect between the film's lead and the material and some have been downright bullshit. Usually that's only dependent on the investment the writer/director. While I'd say, Beyonce should indeed shop for women who fit the body type, but I think it's kinda unfair to say that its a total affront to have a non-South American tell the story of what at the base level is an African woman being simultaneously fetishized and abused by white people for her features (something Beyonce and several famed black females are familiar with I'm sure). If the film is made and fails at the box, I still think that's good for getting the idea of the story out their from news and think pieces about one of the most famous black artists in the present day making a movie about one of the least well known subjects of blatant racism and sexism in bigot history, rather than waiting for the stars to align and the perfect South African director + South African actor to make a box office smash hit biopic.

I think hip hop and games go together fine, i think a lot of folks are ok with that nowadays.

Sonic music is (usually) fantastic. Personally can't see how vocal music would work with Mario but I'd love to be surprised.

As far as vocal music, in my mind it would be more of a hip hop esque beat. But if they were to use anytype of vocal track I would imagine it would be rather simple and cute like mario in general. Probably a song about jumping. or a boss that sings talking about how they are going to stomp your shit, and when you beat them they stop. Something simple, cute, that kind of thing.

Michigan is an interesting place right now for the right reasons. There's a huge wealth disparity between alot of the suburban areas and the more urban locales like Detroit, Flint, and Benton harbor, are all being taken advantage of.
A big probelm in Detroit right now is the city is facing pretty rapid gentrification. It's not as bad as what's happening in San Fran or New York but the effects are largely the same. The local goverment has been letting the Neighborhoods (were the vast majority of detroiters live) wither on the vine and lots money being pushed into the mid and downtown areas of the city.
