That's tough. The problems that i can see go beyond the usual "can't relate" attitude. I can see there being a creative conflict of how to cater to an audience that likes a very specific style in storytelling that they believe is a Japanese way of being. Even if it's very Japanese in story, design, and production, will it be Japanese 'enough' to not turn off the pre-packed audience immediately? It's like the problem that a lot of Americans have in recognizing that not all Europeans are white. Like the concept of a black British person is an anomaly.
I think it's the same thing with Japanese media products. Establishing black characters as if they aren't foreigners or interlopers, but actual natives to the lore and land is not something that people have been challenged with. Unless they are giant murderous subhuman bugmen. It would have to be loaded with all kinds of buffoonery and 'jokes' for most to accept it.

Not to say it couldn't be done. But it's as likely to succeed as Square is likely to hire an all black team to lead and produce it. Never gonna happen.

it depends, she needs to be dark skin, with kinky hair, and stylishly fully dressed, otherwise Square Enix would make her racially ambiguously brown, with straight hair, and scantily clad and people online will fight about whether she's black or not to decide whether she can be their waifu. LOL

As simple as it sounds that would go a long way towards squashing a lot of anxiety if they could get that to stick.
Would they ever have a main entry FF game that isn't under the umbrella of JRPG though?
Could they ever take the production outside of Japan? I don't know. Would it still be classified as JRPG simply because of geography? I hadn't thought about that.

I get the impression that the category definition of what a JRPG is might vary drastically between those that produce, and those that consume in this instance.

I had a process that I was experimenting with. Morphing sketches into unnatural looking and alien habitats of sorts. I can't find the second of the three steps that it went though unfortunately.

I did, but after seeing the reviews I thought it was a case of the trailers not being indicative of the full movie's quality.
