The game is way too shallow to me.
The UI is probably one of the clunkiest Ive played since you have to go into the menu every time you want to repair/recharge your ship/exosuit or mod your multi-tool. Youi're wrestling with the menu half the time because much of the gameplay revolves around recharging and crafting.
The FPS combat is absolutely dreadful, with floaty gunplay and stationary AI. There was a reason Hello Games barely showed the FPS combat in this game. It just feels like an afterthought to me.
Then there comes the planets themselves that are pretty dull in variation. Every single undiscovered planet and I came across had life on the planet or had an alien outpost. Not only is it not even close to realistic, it totally destroys any feeling of accomplishment of finding a world that is habitable or one that does have some form of life. There are no galaxies, nebulas or other phenomenon like Hello Games said there'd be. It's just a bunch of planets and suns(that you cant travel to) in a big empty space.
The sound design is pretty bad and there really is a lack of things to do. Turns out it was a valid question after all, because the other things in the game are so shallow (trading, combat, mining, discovery) there really isnt anything compelling enough to want you to keep playing.
