i miss those, and NY pizza, and White Castle (sorry, Krystal's isn't even close), and fresh bagels, and boars head heroes from a corner deli all sorts of other food, but what i miss THE MOST is boneless chicken Roti!

I'm surprised you didn't mention Chinese take out. I can never find any decent spots outside of NYC.

i actually like the Chinese take-out at two different spots down here. one of them has Pork Fried Rice that i can actually eat! i was never a fan of pork fried rice in NYC, always rolled with plain, chicken or beef (or veg or shrimp on rare occasions) because the Pork Fried Rice just never tasted good and always just tasted salty... but this stuff, it's just.. i dunno, better pig or better preparation or something, it's amazing. the other place has this thing called Bourbon Chicken, which is basically General Tso's Chicken with Bourbon in it and it's DELICIOUS!!! both places have underwhelming egg rolls though :(, but yeah, that's why i didn't mention Chinese take-out.

Yeah I had some Bourbon chicken while I was living upstate NY that was pretty good, but I wasn't as lucky as you when it came to anything else on the menu.

Anybody else have completely opposing viewpoints on politics than your parents or family?

Somewhat.

I'm in general more liberal than my parents.
Not expecting to get "conservative" as I get older, but even if I keep my beliefs I'll be classed as a conservative by the time I get to their age :p

I'm going bald. Well more bald. For the past few years I've had a little area on the right where hair barely grows. Now its the same on the left, same spot just opposite sides. I have to keep my hair short anyway but damn......damn. only 24.

Parents are both conservatives, but my mom is more of the 'live and let live' type.

Had a pretty big argument with my dad about me not believing in God. He eventually just dropped it, at first he assumed I was rebelling and was making an uninformed decision. Our 'talks' proved he was sorely mistaken in that assumption.

My parents are both conservative. Both Republicans but my dad to a greater extent. He basically opposes everything a Democrat has ever done. He boils anything "liberal" in his mind down to being a socialist big government construct. He's a member of the tea party stuff like that. Socially he opposes gay marriage, abortion, affirmative action..so many things. Thing is I consider myself an independent who leans more towards the left. Yet my dad considers me a liberal ha ha. Just thought I would get that out there.

Wear that label with pride.
The only reason "liberal" sounds dirty is because we too think it's dirty at some level.

I know that feel bro. My pops is a deacon/preacher. Anti-gay and even voted for George W. in 2000. It's disappointing but what can you do?

My dad is a strong believer and acts more uptight than a preacher really. And the two people he's supported for President this year are Cain and Santorum. The crazy thing is he basically thinks the Republican Party is the one of God but can't explain how I'm still a believer but not a Republican.

You ever call your dad out?

My mom personally isn't very political minded, my father however follows politics heavily and is pretty knowledgeable. It used to kind of surprise me because he's very liberal, watches stuff like the Rachel Maddow show, Hardball with Chris Matthews, and everything on CNN, hates fox news. He is a pragmatic man in that he doesn't let his religious beliefs interfere with his political views.

It's kind of understandable though since he's originally from Nigeria, but is an American citizen. Nigeria has had a string of bombings in the predominantly Christian areas by radical Muslims, and his disdain for Islam sometimes shows. He doesn't hate Muslims, he hates radical fundamentalist backwards ass religious people(my mother was muslim when she met my father).

We debate back and forth a lot. Even though I can hold my own against him and can win a debate with basically anybody my age he can be pretty dismissive.

speaking of life... why is it that so few are pro choice and also pro death penalty?

emotions get the better of some people. I can't say that I don't think the world wouldn't be better with some people dead. I'm against the death penalty though because the chance of innocent people getting executed, I don't feel it's our place to be the final arbiter, and because killing someone is REALLY fucking expensive, it's incredible just how inefficient and costly the shit is, feeding them for the rest of their life is exponentially cheaper.

Might be racist, but I always looked sideways at any minority that votes Republican at the governor, Senator, and above levels.

Some people are just really uninformed or just really really old. My Grand Uncle has been a Republican for forever and whenever someone says something to him about it he starts talking about Lincoln and the Dixiecrats. He did vote for Obama though ...or at least he said he did.

You have some very strong opinions don't you. I think dividing the parties up by racial lines serves no good purpose. All it does is divide us even more.

actually I agree with you on this I think you should vote for the best candidate regardless of party. I've voted for bloomberg each time he ran (though I won't vote for him again if he forces a 4th election) But on a national level I've never seen anything from a republican candidate that made me think it was the good move to vote for them.

double jump

you haven't lived until a random little kid ask you "how do you make love".

while both parties have there share of bigots, one party definitely doesn't shy away from what can be conceived as racist rhetoric.

when did the political parties switch side anyway?

For the record I consider myself independent but left leaning on many issues.

Republicans these days sure aint no barry goldwater....dick nixon is a liberal by todays republican standards.

I fear what they will be like in 30 years unless things change. But the old guard should be mostly dead by then, not to be morbid or anything.

My dad hasn't liked the GOP since Reagan, but votes for them anyway. "Now that man was a real Republican"

Black people who like Reagan, ya'll
