I've never heard anything like that at jobs I've worked at. Nobody will even make any comment that could be interpreted as offensive to blacks, especially when I'm around.

On that note, has anyone experienced being the black guy that answers for all blacks? Like if someone wants to "ask a black person", they come to you? Or if they're about to make some comment, they ask you if it's okay? That shit is such lulz.

Its a sports bar restaurant that is owned by an ex drug task force cop from Houston (aka doesn't like black people) and managed by a Tea partier. Of the 3 black people there I'm the only one without a criminal record, the others were in for attempted murder and armed robbery. Of course they both are unmarried with children from different women, one's latest conquest was getting an escort pregnant and letting her move in with him, she stole his 800$ rent and went to Miami (I should mention he is subletting the apartment from someone because he couldn't pass a credit check). The other and the girl currently pregnant by him smoke 2 packs a day. I only got hired because I'm friends with the manager's son, and he's known me since I was little so "I'm one of the okay ones".

Like I said casual racism is the norm. Welfare jokes, "don't lose your spot as a house nigger" jokes. There is a board in the bathroom where you can support your team (war eagle, go noles, etc) that is erased every week or immediately if something offensive is on it. Someone wrote "how much does it cost to get a nigger to play for auburn" and it stayed on the board for 2 months before taken down (everyone in the area is an alabama fan so I am sure they agreed with it).

So there is no HR department for me to "file a complaint". Should I go to the BBB or DOJ? I doubt any of you would risk your job to try and white knight in real life when there is no framework set up to support whistleblowers like HR or a corporate office.

Seems to me you are in a position in which you are getting disrespected and just taking it. If you just sit there and take it, then the people making the jokes are going to think it is okay. Never once through all of this didyou didn't think, "Hey let me get a camera and tape recorder to make a record off all of this" Really?? Just from the thing you named you have a lawsuit on your hands any lawyer would salivate at.

1. Start taking pictures/recording the racism as the job.
2. Go to the manager/owner and tell him how the racism in the work place is making you feel uncomfortable.
3. If nothing changes go speak with a lawyer.

I'm the only black person in my entire company (2 offices w/60 people) but outside of one or two times that come to mind no one here has been ignorant enough to come at me like this. But then my company does have a good percentage of younger people around my age (22-28) so that may make a difference.
