The Division - 15 minutes of new gameplay

Destiny all over again. People playing the beta hoping there's more content there, only to find the full game is exactly as expected.

I very much doubt they'll announce more end game content. They've been pushing that the Dark Zone is the end game stuff for quite a while now.

I fully expect the lack of end game 'hook'/content will be the game's downfall.

At least Ubi didn't tout it's story to be this huge epic which could fit alongside Star Wars, LotR and GoT....

Pre-ordered for PC after I watched Angryjoe's 50 minutes. He wasn't the best but hey :P

I actually liked Destiny and spent easy 300 hours on it before I decided to screw the 3rd Expansion and then not bother with Taken King.

Looking forward to the Division beta.

With Destiny we were hoping there was more to Earth than just Russia. With The Division I don't think anyone expects the full game will unlock a new city like San Francisco or something.

I'd expect events to be the new thing rather than new cities. Halloween maybe or summertime for a change.

From Arekkz. So abit of grain of salt.

The Division Open World - Map Size, Fast Travel, Safe Houses & More!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lTO2PN8hDAs

I'm at work so I can't really watch the video proper but just at the very start it says his waypoint is like 90m away and even him fully running it takes quite a bit to actually move towards it.

I feel the city is gonna be easily big enough, especially with all the rooftops I have seen and the houses you can go into.

Talking about rooftops, have you guys seen that cool "rappel elevator" in AngryJoe's video?
There are ropes hanging on the outsides of buildings that you put a "hand elevator" unto and rappel up/down!

Is it just me or is this game ridiculously downgraded in terms of graphics compared to the first E3 video?

Of course it is, but remember this is XB1 footage mostly.

The PC should show a big graphical upgrade if some of the whispers floating round can be believed.

have to disagree. Even when you discuss PnP RPG's, D&D in particular has had plenty of Publisher campaigns that are considered "Railroad" wherein you have the illusion of choice but in reality must follow a set path to advance.

Take it up with wikipedia then.

You're mistaking modules for mechanics. These are distinct. The paucity of much of what TSR produced with regard to in house scenarios with endless dungeon crawlers to turn a fast buck doesn't invalidate the reality that not how all P&P RPGs operated. If all you were ever served was ready made modules I feel rather sorry for you tbh. Not every game scenario was go there, kill that, get profit.

The whole point is the presumption that certain mechanical systems (levels and loot) qualify a game as a role playing game, even though there isn't actually any degree of role play within what is presented, and those abstract systems are merely holdovers from another media.

If you break it down, that's pretty much what most games entail. Repetitive sets in if the surrounding content isn't well made and varied. If you tear down all of that, most games are pretty damn repetitive.

You'd think you might have a few scenarios where you could talk people down and maybe recruit them to your cause tbh, rather than put half a clip into their face. Or at the very least capture them.

No.. I'm not mistaking modules for mechanics. The Roleplaying in a PnP RPG is not a mechanic. It's, at best, an input. Either the DM judges the result based on their opinion or a roll of the dice determines how the Roleplay resolves the conflict. Essetially, the Roleplay was Flavor. Not a determining factor.

Even in a more sandbox world or campaign, character choices are player choices. Those aren't mechanic based. You just decide to go a direction or place and it happens. There's no Roleplay involved.

See.. without the mechanics, there is no Game aspect. Roleplay without mechanics is simply playing pretend. Which is fine except it doesn't fulfill the "Game" part in "RPG." So I suppose, by your logic, we're at an impass.

Except we're not because the vast majority of people understand what RPG means when applied to a video game and nobody confuses it whatsoever with the Role Playing that happens in a PnP RPG.

Seriously.. your personal definition of.. well anything, takes a backseat if it's not the same as commonly expressed nomenclature.

When can the Alpha tester expect their Beta codes? Or should I just pre-order the PC version as well to get my code?

I'm keeping an eye out for that information and I haven't seen it yet.

Someone suggested that XBO Alpha Testers would have their Alpha Client updated nearer the time. No confirmation of that but I kept my client just in case.

This game has been under my radar, does it have a dedicated single player campaign or is it like Destiny?

But the campaign IS like Destiny that it's 10 missions that can be played solo or in a Fireteam. There is no offline "single player mode"

Yeah. I've noticed that Klyka has answered a few questions as if they know the answer but they've been wrong.
I'm sure they're just trying to be helpful but it just confuses things.

On topic though I'm really looking forward to this game. Have a group of atleast 5 other people to play with so I should be able to roll with a group of 4 most of the time :)

Hehe, it's good to clear somethings that people don't expect this to deliver a 20 hour Resident Evil 4 -campaign.

I'm waiting for the Beta to get to see how the shooting feels like, if it's adequate this will satisfy my Destiny RNG lootfest needs for the next 6 months until we get more content :D

Have Massive said anything about players potentially friends farming each other in dark zones? It seems something that can happen when the game comes out. All you need is to find 3 people who aren't interested in PvP, go into the dark zone as a group, kill them and repeat the process.

I'm also afraid of ganking squads at the spawn gates to the Darkzone. Even in the press demos it seemed like as soon as they entered the Darkzone, there were other fireteams instantly firing upon them :D

Good luck with that then.

Yes you quite clearly are. If all you've ever known is grey I don't doubt it's hard to conceive of red or blue existing but they do.

There is no impasse because you haven't presented a cohesive counter point. All you've expressed is denial by trying hand wave away the 'role play' aspect of the RPG experience as somehow being tangential or unimportant to the whole. Also freeform role play is actually a thing and has been for many years so that kind the boots into your 'let's pretend' assertions.

It did happen in the alpha but it's really hard to succeed
The moment you fire on a guy or squad
Anyone else going in can fire at you, you can only last for so long

Plus people respawn right back there, it's tough

The more you kill the bigger your rogue radius gets ,so people that are already inside will see you, come from behind you and attack

Plus dying loses rank and DZ monies i think

I reserve my judgement until I see footage of the PC version but it doesn't bode well that the XBOX One version looks so dull in comparison to that early reveal material. Honestly I don't expect the PC version to have much more than higher texture resolutions and the usual stuff instead of increased amount of clutter and debris on the streets.

Acutally, PC versions tend to have a lot more clutter (MGS V, TW3, GTA V, etc.). But since this clutter was large models that affect gameplay to a certain extent, it may not be the case!

What is a 'rogue radius'?

this is the full map at release

So I'm guessing the rest of the map is being sectioned off for DLC.

I'd wager we'll get full blown expansions adding new parts of New York, yep.

Also,I totally forgot the map doesn't just have rooftops and building interiors, but also the subway. So, there is more real estate to explore there.

building interiors were more or less just two story buildings that you could blow through in 20-30 seconds unless it was a mutli floor apartment. Which those usually have side missions anyways. The interiors mostly serve as links/easy paths to another street. But there is also crafting and other stuff that was not in the alpha. You could go pick up materials at a garage, electronics store or clothing store.....but they didn't do anything in the alpha. I hope the crafting system is deep and not just consumables.

Now the sewers/subways.....those were pretty fucking big and cool. But you couldn't go in half of them in the alpha. Some had sewer covers that couldn't be removed and you could see on the map just how far down and big they were.

Nice, that's cool to hear.

I take it most of the bigger building interiors are for missions/dungeons?

The stadium was the actual doctor mission.....I think that was in the latest news outing by players on youtube. The place had a whole hospital on the stadium floor, with a bar upstairs and eventually you worked your way to the roof by using the rafters.

But it definitely seems the really big ones will be saved for that "damn, it looks amazing" or "That's cool" moments.

Yeah, makes sense, you are not gonna blow your big, super detailed "setpieces" on the open world with random people running around.

Like, the higher your rogue level gets, the bigger a radius around you where people inside that radis will see where you are. in some of the videos you can see that.

But can't you just see people normally in the game world without being in this radius? Or are we talking about a map position rather than in the actual game world?
