The Division Beta Thread: Make Manhattan Great Again

I believe I've read somewhere that we can actually customize our character on the full version later.
But how about names? Can we use custom names or we'll be stuck with our Ubisoft/PSN/XBL account names?

Beta currently has two DZ matchmaking brackets. Level 4-7 and level 8. You get put into one out of those two based on your level gained in doing PvE / Story stuff outside of DZ.

DZ level / "rank" seems to only affect what quality of gear you are allowed to purchase, and is extra check on top of your Story gained level. Basically idea is that "Now you that have done 20 levels worth of helping outside of DZ now give us a hand in DZ for 20 DZ levels worth, and I will sell this shiny item to you". There doesn't seem to be other purpose for DZ levels / ranks.

We don't know if there will be similar matchmaking brackets in release as there is now, but different parts of DZ are meant for different levels of players. Lower regions (where beta is) are meant for players who have gotten to level 4-9 in doing Story stuff, and parts of DZ go all the way to level 30. For level 22 player there is very little reason to be in level 8 part of DZ because content doesn't provide him with any gear upgrades.

Level 30 players supposedly get own version of the whole DZ with all new content to do.
The fastest way to gain credits is ganking and surviving. Why the fuck WOULDN'T they troll low level players when there's so little risk of retaliation? As it stands now, there's a huge disparity in the 8's where the gankers are decked out and destroy people of their same level, but half the DPS.

Loot? lol everyone just buys it as is. Troll the lowest level DZ and survive the manhunt... based on current play this will be the strategy unless they gate off the DZs as you level. "Gate off" as in make their brackets scale with you.

You assume that current DZ is accurate reflection of one in full release. If we were to believe alleged statement by developers that they have turned off a lots of NPC encounters, possible side quests etc. from DZ it means greatly reduced XP and DZ Moneys income. If there is a lot PvE activities to do within DZ it will reduce amount of PvP happening, especially ganking will be smaller issue.

imo

You are a bit optimistic. If they let lvl 29s into lvl 8 DZ, that's where they'll be. It's human nature. Gain lvl 5 rogue and laugh as no one can touch you. Run aroud farming mobs, extract shit? Why? Kill noobs for an hour and then just buy loot. Until lvl 30.

This is what it'll be if they allow it.

You can be lvl 8 in lvl 28 DZ with a group leader at this lvl but you can't be lvl 28 in a lvl 8 DZ.

Just had cheater in a game. Annoying as hell. I was taking damage from around the corner without any sound and bullets were coming from the ground.
This is my biggest concern when it comes to this game. I hope Ubi will ban people and fix as much as they can.

Posing with my rogue hunter :D

2 things I wish they would add

- random players appearing in the world outside if social hubs , turn pvp off . Would be awesome to see an agent and help them out.

- add some kind of timer to dark zone so you can't hang around all day . Like every player gets 10 mins to explore . Loot and extract . Might help reduce camping .

1) i agree

2) i don't agree. The camping in beta is because of the beta. Ppl don't give 2 shits about their level or if they lose, they just want to kill others and in a restricted area.
Once the game goes retail you will have ~3 times the area in DZ and there will be less players to encounter due to the 24p limit.

But that aside, if you had 10-20-30-whatever min to explore DZ and then you had to fulton yourself out of there, what would you do in the non-dz time? forced to grind pve stuff?

I'm currently watching a jackfrags video and he is in a 20-24 bracket, so the brackets will probably be grouped by a max. lvl gap of 4.

I thought the beta version is capped at level 8 (pve) and 12 (dark zone)?
Anyway, that's interesting, and nice to know.

And my purple police bag that was purchased outside the beta area :p

I'm currently wearing that bag (different color though, I guess). Got it from the hospital mission or random open world stuff, can't really remember. Equipment models aren't that varied from what I've seen so far in the beta.

How do you get to that area?

Grenade run.

You may go through a few attempts. Too early and you'll spawn under the world and get sent back to home base. Too late and you'll get spawned at the safe house.

You'll have a few seconds once you're in there before it kicks you out.

invisible enemies? the game literally has invisibility stealth or you just mean from people you didn't happen to see?

I mean as in there is nothing around me, there were no NPCs to be seen, and I'm taking damage that is high enough to put me down in a few seconds. I was on a street, and the damage started appearing from nowhere. Ran into a nearby alley and started taking damage right away again, so I'm sure what was killing me followed me.

Been trying to enjoy the DZ solo, but I keep dying to invisible enemies. On PS4 btw.

There's a bug that can make you go invis/invuln. He was on the map, could attack/heal, but nothing could touch him.

Friend had it yesterday for 5mins before realising, then he decided to make our group get manhunted. I lost 4k from dying while rogue.

On PS4 too.

I played 90% of my time solo and never had this problem.

I really enjoy playing solo, you always have the feeling you can't trust nobody and you have to stay on your toes all the time. And there is always ways to extract your loot safely. When we have the full DZ map available in the full game, the DZ will be more fun playing solo, and more challenging too.

I cant stop trying to vault over cover with X (PS4). I've gotten myself killed a few times rolling when I was trying to vault. Some old Gears habits are hard to let go.
Yeah, Ubi messed up mapping vault to O and hide to X. I real done goofed last night when I hit O to hide, and instead vaulted over the rooftop and landed slapbang in front of a machine gunner.

You can stick with the PVE on release. There will be more missions you can play. PVP isn't always for everyone.

That being said, it's not strictly PVP in the dark zone. It feels much more like a lone wolf trying to survive (if going solo). Honestly, it makes it much more intense than the PVE will ever feel.

I used to play Ultima Online at release. In that game, if you were player killed, you lost everything on you. All of your gear, and everything in your inventory. It was devastating at times, but it made the game so much more intense with big rewards if you could succeed at whatever you were attempting to do.

This is a fantastic compromise. You don't lose everything, but the intensity of the game is there. Waiting for the extraction, looking around and seeing these other players that may attack. It's pretty exciting at times.

Yeah, vanilla Ultima Online, Pks were flagged perma red after a while, banned from cities and always at the risk of attacks, it's an rpg if you want to be a criminal good for you but deal with the consequences, i don't want to see your blue name next to mine after a minute you killed me and stole my loot at an extraction point.

The video said you switch to your pistol by tapping triangle, but it's not working for me.

Also why do so many games, especially games like this, feel the need to have a techno-y soundtrack? I mean on one hand I'm not complaining because I love that Tron-ass-soundin shit, but on the other hand it doesn't even really fit the style of this game. It's like some focus testing bullshit.

So, I can't decide between regular and gold edition.

I think I'd be fine with regular, except the Gold Edition mentions something about "monthly events and content."

Don't have any idea what that means? Seems weird for certain events to be gold edition exclusive.

I've quite enjoyed gameplay but I don't think I can buy the game until I know that the issues from the beta with respect to client side network information are not going to be an issue in the release.

Hey guys

Really enjoyed the beta of the game at the weekend.

I want to cancel my pre-order and upgrade to the gold edition. The standard being £42 and the gold being £59.

Do you guys think this is worth it or should I wait and just keep standard edition?

I'm sold for the game as long as they fixed the bug and cheater.
Will preorder for gold edition in Steam.

I like the dedicated server feature.

I do think some of the concerns about marauding gangs in the DZ is caused in part by the relatively sparse amount of content in this beta. People fairly quickly use up the mission/side quest stuff and find themselves wanting encounters but effectively having to generate them themselves.

A few times we'd just spot a solo and just stalk him/her to see what they were up to. After a while they were clearly getting unnerved because they were looking backwards all the time. We stalked them for a while just to see what we should do, before peeling off and finding other places to explore. Other times we'd hear there was an extraction and just make a beeline for it. Hunker down and wait. If a group came in we'd just sit and watch. If there was a vulnerable one/two, We'd pick them off. Then there were the manhunts. Someone would go rogue and we'll all go gangbusters for them, chasing them down.

There were some great incidences too of us being approach by another group and we have a Mexican stand-off, before both backing away slowly.

All in all, good fun, but I can see it being tough on lone wolves.

In terms of feedback. It would be good to see more PvE elements introduced into the DZ. It would encourage greater co-op and the forging of uneasy alliances with other players. Maybe some kind of invasion by a marauding group of NPDs or a rogue chopper or something. Like the PvE elements in Halo 5 Warzone.

Also, I've gone rogue a few times just because I killed a guy who first attacked me. I think a self-defence kill should not attract rogue status.

Another suggestion related to an incident near the DZ entrance. Once, the three of us were heading out of the zone to the base of operations. Some noob jumps into the DZ and sees me. Panics and gets a shot off. he doesn't kill me and pretty much held his hands up asking for mercy. We let him by and he went on his way. However we couldn't leave the DZ as the game still thought we were in combat, because that guy attacked me.

We waited a few minutes and it passed, but I'm not sure if there's a way that you can over-ride the system where two combatants actively decide to end their engagement, without allowing for combatants to simply use the DZ entrance as a way of escaping an engagement that they are losing.

That's a good summary, thanks for sharing. I'm hoping matchmaking in the DZ will make things better for Lone Wolves. I never got to level 8 in the outside DZ game so never got to try it though.

It's gonna be interesting to see the start of this game..
I'm pretty sure you don't start the full game in Manhattan but probably some woodland training area (given that the snow drop development engine video shows a forest being built) and not at level 4 straight off the bat..
so I'm sorely tempted to go gold edition now and get the season pass too...

Can't wait for more content!

i would assume you get shit rewards for killing low level players. There is nothing to be gained from killing noobs.

Howeeeever, people are just assholes so some will stay at chokepoints killing noobs just for fun and "deathmatch mode" purposes.
