The Division Beta Thread: Make Manhattan Great Again

So, I can't decide between regular and gold edition.

I think I'd be fine with regular, except the Gold Edition mentions something about "monthly events and content."

Don't have any idea what that means? Seems weird for certain events to be gold edition exclusive.

Gold edition has no pre-order bonuses nor apparent cost benefit. So you can buy the Season Pass later when content is announced.

(I have buyers remorse from Battlefront so definitely waiting it out this time...)

I do think some of the concerns about marauding gangs in the DZ is caused in part by the relatively sparse amount of content in this beta. People fairly quickly use up the mission/side quest stuff and find themselves wanting encounters but effectively having to generate them themselves.

indeed. I've been just testing out different weapon types...against other players :D

Flashbang+Double barreled shotgun does wonders! :D Also a proper sniper rifle with 200% critical hit bonus can one-shot players.

Watched a cool TGN Squadron moment of throwing grenades at 7 or 8 people going to extraction. Was pretty tense.

I think if they can make the Darkzone mode work, it could be a fun game mode. Seems super tense and will probably be awesome with larger zones and more people.

If I ever post something in Japanese which I don't understand, please BAN me.
Anyone know if high-end gear will be the best loot in the final game or can we find some truly unique legendary stuff from rare bosses or so?

Really enjoyed playing this with a friend last night, it was alright on my own, but it is much more fun with someone who has your back. We started calling rogue players skulls because of their icon, it's more fun saying skulls to the north or two skulls coming down the street. it can be quite a bit of tension when we were hiding behind some cars when a small group of rogue players came running through and then attacked some players trying extract some stuff on the other side of us.

If they can balance the dark zone, sort out any shitty things players can glitch or bug there way into, then I could see it being really enjoyable in the long term. If the videos are correct and there's going to be a lot more going on in the world than what we see in the bets then I'll be pretty happy.

Do we know if there's going to be any sort of Clan support in the full game? Or is grouping going to be it?

I like the HUD overall. Only think they could have done a better job with the mini map/radar.
Its abit boring where the rest of the HUD is all fancy. Would love to have seen a map like WD. 3D and showing the streets.

So, me and a couple of friends burned a few hours into this and... We are not impressed. The traversal is boring, the shooting is tedious. Loot is crap, missions are badly designed. Inventory is appallingly bad (long single rows for all equipment). Had to struggle to figure out which item is equipped when, plus everything is named the same with different rolls. Dark Zone is a griefer's paradise with zero balancing. Taking on a group of gankers who are dug in near the extraction point with random players, accidentally shooting the wrong guy in the mayhem and turning rogue yourself. Shit.

Sorry guys, but pre-orders cancelled all round.

Will look at Division again when it hits below 20 EUR per disc. That should be early April I presume.

Mentioning it again so it has a little more visibility, but if you 24 player DZ limit is for the entire darkzone (if it isn't you'll be switching instance/players when you run into a different street, this seems like a very strange way of doing things), then that would mean that we the players are currently concentrated into an area that's 1/3rd the size it should be. Obviously this is just a theory and I can't say for certain.

Like I said, the game cant seem to tell between a tap and hold(atleast on X1), so you need to double tap.

I knew something was up with this! In the Alpha I could switch by tapping or holding - (there was no double tap) and I was puzzled why it didn't act the same in the Beta - I thought they changed it on purpose.

Being an always-online experience, this would be the perfect game to do real-life seasons for. I'd love after several months, the ice and snow melted away and you had to explore Manhattan in the heat of the summer.

Yes, seeing things progress etc would be really cool. If it all kicked off in Nov/Dec and winter kicks in, it would be cool to see Spring start.

Maybe the sequel will bring in that variation.

You guys need to decide if you want this to be a ongoing experience ala MMOs and Destiny or a one-off RPG like Dragon Age Inquisition or Witcher.
If it's the first you can complain if there ends up being no end game content.

Edit: Also if I had to say a single purely negative thing about the game, the guns just do not sound meaty or good at all.
Maybe if they sounded like the guns in Heat it would contrast the possible sponginess even more.

Probably because that vid was made a while ago and it changed after the alpha a month ago.

That and the fact that there was no tutorial for me in the beta, I asssume because I played the alpha? At least I don't recall doing a tutorial this time around.

Regardless, the double tap felt fine so I'm happy.

It's definitely not going to be as groundbreaking as it first appeared (who'd have thought eh?) but this was a pretty solid beta imo. Very few bugs or glitches, ran reasonably well and I got a good indication of what the full game is going to entail.

The biggest bug/hack I came across was a dude in the dark zone who wasn't turning rogue even after attacking people. He was sort of shooting at people to bait them into attacking him, then attacking and killing them using other people's help when that person went rogue.

I didn't get to play very deep into the game but I enjoyed the single player stuff I did get to experience. I'm definitely keeping my $35 best buy preorder. Wish some of my friends would jump in too though. Would be a lot more fun I think. Will probably have to see if there are some like minded gaf players.

Not really a "hack" it's exploiting the game mechanics to get around the rogue issue since self-defense of the person that is being attacked first isn't in.

I've gone for the Gold edition on PS4, I preordered it from Amazon when they had it for £49.99.

I haven't had this much fun in a multiplayer game in a long time, getting some serious Freedom Fighter vibes from it, I said it to a couple of friends and they agreed. Can't wait for the full release.

I hope Massive (or whoever) read this forum and seriously thinks about adding a secondary invisible timer where if you keep baiting like that, they go rogue anyways. For example, Timmy shoots Jimmy with a bullet to bait him in to rogue, Jimmy is smart and doesn't fall for the bait, so Timmy keeps trying to do it to annoy him in the hopes he will just get fed up or maybe even think he finally went rogue, Timmy tries it a third time and he instead turns rogue after his repeated offenses on the same person within a small time window. Jimmy then kills Timmy and all is right in the world.

Make it happen devs.

You f**king rogues, man ha ha. Nothing worse than getting shot by some douche bag as you are extracting and watching him extract your sh*t on the very helicopter you called in. Death to all rogues!

Yup. When you play solo, when extracting get alone as possible. If there are another it's okay as long as they are not grouping together.
