The Division Beta Thread: Make Manhattan Great Again

Did anyone preorder from amazon and submit their emailed code and never get a email with the psn beta code after that?

I have friends on both consoles and got to play with some of them on X1 bc I got the x1 code off a buddy but never received my psn code.

Why did he get banned anyways?

The Destiny season pass is generally regarded as "not worth it" and "a rip off" since the two DLCs did not add anything that people expected, like new regions, new planets, tons of missions and content.

I certainly enjoyed them *shrug*

I thought they were pretty good, especially House of Wolves. They made Destiny Year 1 feel like a complete experience and a lot of people will agree that Year 1 of Destiny was far better than what Year 2 has become.

Wait what. Destiny season pass delivered on its promise. Two expansions post-release which resulted in a great Year 1 experience for many people.

You might be the first person who has said that the Dark Below and House of Wolves was worth the price of admission.

AFAIK he runs a Division blog and has had access/working relationship with the devs, but did not fully disclose this to the mods when he made the info hub thread a while back.

I know he was posting in the Ubi closed Alpha feedback forums, but I don't think it was with an employee account.

Not really. I along with many others at DestinyGAF loved what House of Wolves brought to the table.

Post-release support for the first year of Destiny was far, far better than it is now.

I agree with you... In retrospect, I feel completely ripped off by having purchased the season pass sight unseen...
The Destiny beta was so promising that I pulled the trigger on it...

They didn't make good on any promises till the Taken King in my opinion.

Anyway, I'm getting the same vibe from the Division beta... So I'm being cautious until full reviews come out... I need to know if there's enough content to justify a purchase.

In retrospect Destiny even with its first two expansions absolutely did not have enough content to justify the $90 I spent on them.

Shame it was unsustainable level of support for Bungie, I guess state of their dev tools and amount of people really restricts what they can do outside of full game or TTK level releases. There was so much hype and momentum for Y2 with TTK's release, and then it just tripped and fell over :/

Ok,so I just ran through the entire Chelsea area and there are exactly 3 places in which you fight enemies.

2 fights where you fight 2 guys looting a corpse and 1 fight where you fight 3 mooks and their leader.

You guys don't seriously believe for one second, that they made this map, put all this detail and stuff in there and then went "this area you need multiple minutes to run through, we will put 8 enemies in there."

Like, come oooooooon you guyssssss

If I ever post something in Japanese which I don't understand, please BAN me.
Those are the little details i love to see.

He holds every weapon type differently.

Well done Massive, you guys rock.

They likely toned down the enemy spawns in the beta, for a few reasons
1: Help stress the non-combat visuals
2: Help the players who are unfamiliar with RPGs that look like Shooters by giving them less things that shoot at them

'Donnnn't let him sneak up on us!"

Just finished the medical mission, and I'm pretty impressed. Dunno if I want to dedicate the time to another game like this (went through phases with Destiny and now I'm pretty much done), but we'll see. I like that it feels more like an actual video game over aomething like Destiny. The story stuff is cool and shit like that. I just remember the Destiny beta seeming awesome, but the full game being pretty dissapointing, so we'll see.

Also, can you actually SNEAK UP ON EM and do stealth stuff like the were so worried about?

Maybe thats why it runs so well 1 enemy per block.

That's why it's best to wait it out when possible. A buddy of mine preordered the Destiny digital collector's edition for PS4 for the $90 or whatever it was, then didn't like the game and never played the expansions. I preordered the vanilla from Best Buy with GCU to get it for $52 (incl. tax) + a $10 Reward Certificate, played for a month or two, then traded it in for $44 in credit. My buddy lost $90 while I actually gained a couple bucks from playing it.

While I'm excited for The Division and have a slight urge to upgrade to the Gold Edition, I'm gonna wait it out again. At the very least, I can play vanilla for a month or two and get most of my money back (if not all) if I don't think the game has legs. And if I love it and want the season pass, I'll buy it at that point.

Probably my biggest issue, enemies always spawn in the same areas, they are generally quite far apart and there is absolutely nothing random to the encounters. It would be nice if at least some of those people you walk past who give clothing in exchange for food turn out to be an enemy and start shooting you the moment you get close, something, anything to add a little bit of surprise to the non DZ zones.

There used to be knife takedowns but, they were removed. The dialog just probably stayed the same.

it's been a while since we've seen so much attention to detail from an Ubisoft game.

From what I've noticed, even if you use a silenced weapon and get in an headshot kill on a weak enemy while the others aren't looking. The moment you shoot they all know exactly where you are.

People should stop referencing data that makes me feel uncomfortable because games get ported to platforms I don't like

Until proven otherwise I guess you can say that The Division takes the realistic approach where Silencers/Suppressors on guns don't make you an assassin with a gun.

Blinded by the luminous glory that is David Bowie's physical manifestation.
Melees finish off downed players.

So does spamming another magazine into them. And I don't have to run out into the open to do that.
Besides, who is going to play Dark Zone just to melee people?

Silencers are just a "reduced threat" mechanic, right? So if you're in a team shooting some NPCs, if you've got a higher "reduced threat" than the guy next to you, the NPCs will be more likely to focus their fire on your teammate, right? That's how I took it.

It also seemed kinda strange that silencers didn't cause negative effects to range or anything like they do in so many other games.

A beta doesn't happen 4 weeks till launch. Whatever is shipping on the disk is basically done

Betas are demos nao~

I've heard this one before...

Anyway, hopefully they'll iron out the issues come launch. Haven't experienced any glitches yet.

But wouldn't someone want to have cheating in the Beta so they can have a one month start of fixing it?

Haven't they stated they deliberately changed the spawns of the DZ so as to get better readings on PvP?

Didn't they say they are populating the non-DZ world more?

I mean, I'm not gullible enough to believe everything developers say, but I'll give them the benefit of the doubt until proved otherwise. I played enough in the beta to know I will like the full version.

So far, Massive seems to be pretty upfront about what's going on.

You know what I appreciate about games that many people take for granted or devs think we might not notice: the little things. Such as the backpack straps jiggling when you move, the way you hold guns (as posted above), the now infamous door closing animation, etc.

So thank you whoever you are dev from The Division who painstakingly worked on making those backpack flaps flap and wiggle, you are the real MVP.

Lame. So it's go loud or nothing? Oh well.

I might end up getting this. Reallt just depends on what my situation is in March and how hard I'm still playing SF5. But yeah, it's turned out better than I expected. So that's good. Don't really have the urge to keep playing the beta though.

So on stream the devs have said the guns being bought in the DZ in the beta are actually not suppose to be there normally. They added them in for testing purposes and will be found in other places in the game.

I think they mentioned it previously that only applies to the legendary guns, which will most likely be rare drops.

I agree. The attention to detail is probably the best I have seen this gen. It's on R* level as hoe much detail they put into GTA.

One of the guys I've been playing with ran into the same issue with a couple of his friends. It looked like Amazon stopped sending out beta code emails sometime Saturday/Sunday, about the time when Ubisoft released that "overwhelming demand" announcement.

Surely people on Gaf will remember those beautiful details while they're crucifying this game for the dreaded "lack of content" a couple months from now.

Melee does it in one hit. It takes more than one bullet. :p

That means if you're fighting two players and manage to down his friend but you're close to reloading, you're better off meleeing the downed player then dealing with the other player still alive, otherwise you'll end up having to reload while he revives his friend.

Anywho, I think they'll add melee weapons for players later on, like Destiny.
