The Division Beta Thread: Make Manhattan Great Again

I love this game, it's almost like a AAA DayZ. I really enjoy scavenging around for gear and supplies and the tension you feel in the dz when you come across other players. Very good. Was even able to talk a friend of mine into preordering after he was really unsure about it. He loves it. Which is awesome for my future dz plans, lol.

They just need to up the NPC count a little bit and this thing will be golden as far as I'm concerned. Looks and runs amazing on PC as well.

The AI is really pretty bad. I did the main mission thinking the people I fight in that will be smarter than random thugs on the street. Nope! I we had a group of 4 agents with with assault rifles and what tactic did the enemy use? Literally had like 8 straight enemies run straight at us with their baseball bats with no regards for cover, we gunned them down so easily and they just kept running with bats. You'd think guys like that would be prepared for gunfights and actually have guns lol and they would take cover considering they're gonna die if not, but no they just run at you stupidly with wooden bats. Not even a fair fight I feel bad for killing them.

Other than that I'm actually really enjoying the game and think I'll keep my preorder, hopefully the final game delivers on content. I think it's too late for them to make big changes to AI anyway so I'll just have to live with it.

Yeah their should be more npcs roaming around in the DZ it feels pretty boring with almost all the action in small contaminated zones and around the extraction site.

Anyone been unable to run the game on PC? I'm redownloading now, but I could never get past the point of entering my beta key. Game never actually started.

If they're higher level, then it's to force you to move from cover while their ARs run overwatch. It can be overwhelming, depending on their sponge level.

But the AI is super dumb, that's why the devs are forced to use these cheesy tactics. An AR drawing aggro while another player snipes breaks the AI beyond repair. They cannot respond in any intelligent manner. As long as the sniper helps the AR handle the charging brutes, this game is piss easy. Even on "hard". Solo can get dicey but with two people difficulty is a joke.

Those guys are meant to run at you. That's a specific enemy type (the one with a lightning bolt next to their health bar). Similarly, enemies with grenade icons next to their health bars will often keep their distance and throw grenades to try and flush you out.

I'm buying this because I have friends who are going to play but if I was a solo gamer, I wouldn't touch this game with a ten foot pole. It's God aweful solo in my opinion.

Depends. Not all DZ are hostile. If playing solo you see that gang up just leave and go back. I've been playing solo for the most part and have had great times.

How do you change the difficulty to hard? Only options I have is Matchmaking and Replay mission. I swear I saw the option before but it's gone now.

Aggro AI in shooters is always funny as shit. The tactics break down to leeroy jenkins and aim bots

Solo is more fun than big groups.

Best moment today was when myself and just one other gaffer held off a very large group of human players for way longer than we had any business to. Victory even in death.

If they add some type of wave based horde mode, I might come around on this. I do like quite a bit about the game. The combat roll makes pvp a little too silly, but I enjoy the mechanics and the animation.

It's just a bad sign I was already feeling bored the first day of playing, and just how empty everything was. Let me shoot some shit without having to run five blocks for every five kills.

I get that, and I still have fun. I guess I just find it silly anyone in this environment would run across an entire courtyard at people with guns, let alone a bunch of people doing that.
The other enemies aren't too intelligent either. But when they are higher level they do provide a decent challenge just because of the damage increase.

I love solo in DZ :D
Yesterday I was chased by 4 roque agents and after long chase I managed to down 3 of them with one granade thrown from around the corner. I couldn't finish them off and killed only one but some people came with help and I managed to live a little longer :)
There is a lot of great situations like that in the game and I love it.

This.

It's not "Bad AI" it's just meant to run at you like a zealot. That's it's gameplay purpose.

Don't forget you are playing an RPG, not a shooter. It wil have more "gamey" aspects than a traditional shooter.

Plenty of games have enemies that run at you with no regard fort hier own life. It's purposeful. And part of gameplay.

Enemies with guns are constantly taking cover and trying to flank me. More thang old enough for an RPG.

I may have misjudged this game. I picked up the controller again, and decided to complete some mission. I'm amazing at the RPG elements of this 3rd person shooter. It didn't seemed forced on, but it fit perfectly to the game's story. Then I went to pvp zone, and again was blown away. It seems to got right all the things I feel Destiny got wrong. I never felt like it was a chore completing missions. I am so impressed I decided to re-pre order it again.

...and I am still enjoying myself. I mostly stuck to not going into the DZ today so I could practice with the menu options, the map, and different combinations of skills and gear.

I loot everything. Electronics, tools, water, clothes (I found an entire casual winter set - beanie hat, sweater, pants, and ski boots in one building) - so much so that I had to start turning stuff into "fabric" because if I see it, I will try and grab it, Armor 2 face mask? Why yes please; that is 1 fabric I guess I will use at some point. Low end armor is the new Fallout 3 tin can in this game. I also got my medical area up to 20% and I think that is as high as it gets in the beta (feel free to correct me on this).

Fast track to the home base is a nice feature because the only thing this game is missing is a pedometer for all the foot travel.

*YOU HAVE WALKED 10000 STEPS TODAY; HERE, HAVE A NEW GUN!*

The echos are cool, and they kind of remind of the ODST audio logs at times. I also hope that tracking agents (like you do in the sewer) will lead to something more substantial in the final version of the game.

I have done almost all the side missions and encounters now. Did 2 virus data transmission missions in quarantine areas and the virus beacons apparently do NOT show up on the map so the race against time with those mission types does work and gets you tense and hurried.

I liked the "serial killer" side mission because that end boss was like a Madden AI quarterback with those grenade throws. I fought her off at a distance, THEN I saw the path on the left hand side up to her position and smacked my forehead. I fear everything in this game it seems heh.

Learned to work the pistol and grenades better. And I like my combination of machine gun and AK47 in tandem. Got my COD weapon swap speed back because of it. Screw reloading, I will swap to the other rifle and make you back off.

I got a couple of DELTA errors. And in the sewers/water pump mission, I died once, then right as I engaged the initial group by the valve the 2nd time, I got a DELTA error. When I got back, the two valves you can use are still usable, but no bad guys and nothing triggered after that. So I will try it again later on. I figure the final version will use the basic "bad guys" types more skillfully, but when there are more than 5 of them, you do have to put in the work because they will flank you and try and flush you out of cover. Those grenade throws never really "miss"; I wish I could say the same about my skill with them. And multiple flamethrower enemies at once is a quick death if you are not careful.

I am mostly a PvE guy, so the DZ is not exactly something I froth over. But I can see myself grabbing this at a discount or "complete edition" at some point because it does scratch the free roam PvE itch I get with games like this. Glad to see the overall positive response from folks, because it had to be better than Watch Dogs. HAD TO BE. I am not a fan of "always online", but this game I feel I can pick and put down simply enough and not miss anything - I cannot say that for Destiny after an extended layoff.

I will venture out into the DZ later on because I feel I have not died fruitlessly enough yet and the DZ seems to be the place to be for doing just that.

I agree, I feel this game is a better destiny than destiny, lol. If that makes sense.

I hope this game does just as well as destiny so other game companies will jump on this RPG online bandwagon and make something just as great or greater.

Im hoping the next borderlands/mass effect go down this mmo-like online route.

Haha. Nice. Yeah the game is really impressive and fun. Ad this is just a tiny beta test with one mission and a handful of loot.

The Final game should be something else, especially with solid post launch support.

But um... Do you still think it looks like a PS3 game..?

Is there really not a way to clean out your DZ stash while in the DZ?

I finally got the gun I was looking for after an intense rogue battle, but my shit is full :'(

It's growing on me. It don't look as bad (to me) as it did earlier. Again, I grossly misjudged this game. My error.

I played way too much Division today.

So will everything be open world? the PVP Dark Zones seem to have an invisible barrier, is it only because its a beta or is there a limit in the Dark Zones ?

Having fun with the Dark Zone right now. Jacking people for their stuff reminds me of my days in Ultima Online, except with a much more lenient penalty so I'm allowed to do it over and over. :p

As for PvE.. I was alright with the AI and bullet sponge enemies until I started to hit level 7ish elite enemies, where both elements came together in a bad way. The problem is that the enemies KNOW they're bullet sponges - they'll run up to you, guns blazing, in the open with no sense of self preservation whatsoever. It's not good. Also, there doesn't seem to be much of a variety in the side missions/encounters, either. The underground encounter way southwest was the Destiny 1.0 formula to a T (scan something, defend it from enemies coming out of impassable doors).
I feel like this game hasn't taken enough lessons from Destiny and is going to make a lot of the same mistakes. Time will tell, I suppose.

I'm enjoying this quite a bit more than I expected, I'm leaning towards picking it up. They should open the beta to everyone before the game is out. I think it would convince a lot of people to jump in.

DZ is good and all, but as someone who only plays alone I see teams making that mode a nightmare for me down the line. Still enjoying the single player though. Game is pretty damn good overall. Hope it's got enough content though and doesn't pull a destiny.

My experience:

I think overall from what I've played (solo and DZ), the game is good - not great. The game looks good, runs pretty well - with a few dips. I don't know how the servers work - but I noticed lag in both solo and DZ. I would kill someone and 1-2 seconds later they would die - this worries me.

I'm more of a solo player, but still enjoyed my time in the DZ - but you really need to roll with a group to be able to find anything to kill. I was rolling through a lot of areas and it was a ghost town, and at first I was like, what am I suppose to do in this zone? It's empty! Then I was able to kill some npcs and even some rogue agents, and then I realized that everything was already dead and that is why I couldn't find anything to do.

I love exploring, but it seems like a waste of time for the most part. I'd climb ladders, and get to roof tops to find nothing - which feels like missed opportunities. I'd love to find more random lore items, weapons and gear etc. I don't like that you are forced to have to play in the DZ to get the best loot. I hate any game that forces you to play pvp - but if that's what the game really is about then they need to be more open about that. I think the potential to have a good balance is there - but I also worry about repetition and the overall legs this game will have.

I love the city/world they've created, but I still have some doubts. Ubisoft has had such a shady past, that I will probably not get this at launch. I liked it a fair bit, but I need to see more and I'm happy to wait for the game to release and see how people respond to it then.

Been watching streams on my second screen all day and man, I couldn't agree with this sentiment more.

Its baffling just how awkwardly all of this game's elements come together, or rather don't. Its needs interesting AI, it needs interesting effects on target, it needs to remove level scaling of damage and health, and it needs variety.

Reminds of my first failed attempts at trying to cook something complicated.

I tried playing again today and I cannot identify a single facet in which I feel this game excels. Everything is mediocre. Its like everything is feels like a half step like everything is a shadow of what it seems like it should be. The presentation, the story, the acting, the gunplay, the AI, the quest design all of it feels off somehow. Its such a bizarre feeling I'm having difficulty putting it into words. But i certainly wouldnt call it "enjoyable" its more like a pervasive and all encompassing feeling of befuddlement mixed with a bit of disappointment.

Yeah, played around a little with the demo and I dig it. Even with just a few upgrades I can see the shooting start to improve.

I'm going to try not to play anymore so I can get the full flavor of the full release.

I think Ubisoft has a winner on their hands

Well I'm done.

Completely sold on the game, decided with my last hurrah that I would throw a grenade into a crowd of 8+ people and run away to see how far I could get (not very far). The pve in the game is absolute shit but the pvp aspect with the dark zone is stellar.

They could have just made the entire game the dark zone and people wouldn't have complained, that survival aspect in the dark zone is what makes it fun.

Multiple times now i've read someone mention a dungeon. Is there something I am missing or do they just mean the single story mission thats available?

Is there a self revive I don't know about? Had a guy earlier pick himself up when I rushed towards him to melee him. There was no one around him. He just got himself back up and was briefly immune.

Is there any way to remove that stupid watermark and the current objective notification in the top left of the screen on the PC version?

Perusing your home base you can see there are a ton of things todo not on the beta, crashed drones surveillance videos and Tons of other stuff.

Just did the main mission solo and it was a tough but rewarding experience .

A friend and I played for about 12 hours today. Had an absolute blast. The Dark Zone is absolutely incredible. The PvP element keeps everything interesting even when you're killing the same mobs over and over because you never know what might happen.
