The Division Open Beta Thread: Is it out yet?

I'd be in the dick
Regarding scopes:

I had a 13x Scope on my M1A in the beta but when I zoomed in it wasn't really 13x but more like 2-3x :/
Anyone knows what I mean?

The scope zoom seems kind of crappy in general. I don't think the ACOG actually zooms at all, just brings up a scope view.

You say that like it is a bad thing.

You mean i'm going to be playing the division for over 1400 hours and have tons of fun? Good.

...If I get another 600+ hours out of the division like I have Destiny (so far) then that is easily worth the cost...
This is where I come out as well. I've put tons of time into Destiny, from vanilla through TTK, and being someone who doesn't have the time and schedule to run through all the available content as fast as possible as soon as possible, I have no problem if The Division plays out like Destiny 2.0.

R700 should be in, classified as MMR I assume.

Also we need to retire 'bulletsponge'.
It's not a thing in this game.

Edit: http://thedivision.wikia.com/wiki/R700

That will be cool if it does substantial damage and can reach out to targets much further than the 12x scope allows.

I'm completely fine with using bulletsponge to describe enemies that take an lots of damage to take down by design. The enemies are intentionally given very large health pools and the weapons chip away at them. It's not a negative word in and of itself. It works as designed in this game when combined with the skills, equipment and other RPG mechanics.

Wasn't that the carbine? The bolt action marksman rifle? I personally didn't like it but I think that might be something you'd like

I didn't enjoy it too much in the beta. Limited by the 12x scope (i believe it was 12) and the damage (mine rolled ~3000K) was less than stellar. I'm thinking more 30x+ scopes and maybe 2 hit kill headshots? That might work?

I think they'd break the game unfortunately :(

With the long streets and open world, it'd be very easy to just stand at one end of a street taking shots at enemies while they have no chance of hitting you. It worked in Destiny I think as the enemies could surround you much easier, and you couldn't rely on planting yourself behind cover as much as you do in The Division.

From what I played, the M44 does good damage, but its damage is hugely reduced at more than 50m or so.

Yeah I think youre right... i doubt well see proper sniper rifles with distance and damage as it might encourage too much camping from a distance esp. in the DZ.

I'd really like some proper, super high damage, super long range snipers in the game. There werent any in the beta and i dont see any on that data mined list. Maybe they'd mess too much with the bullet-sponge health systems being one to two shot kills.

I absolutely reached a point where I was killing most things with two shots in the closed beta - using a blue M1A1.

Oh really?! Damn! I thought mine was one of the top tier M1A1s in the beta... maybe it was because i only tried to use it from too far out and the damage falls off to quickly?

It depends on one's priorities.

I'm an 80% singleplayer gamer who dips into co-op/multiplayer for the occasional change of pace or special occasion with friends (20% of my gaming time).

So Destiny was a complete disappointment for me. Singleplayer, and even co-op tbh, became a tedious hamster wheel for me within 15 hours and the campaign was generally poor. I didn't have the time or inclination to dice with the RNG to get to the Raid. To this day, it's the only game purchase I've truly resented + regretted and it's the only AAA game I've bought digital day-one (to my dismay).

The Division's Beta alone showed more promised for me than Destiny. Frankly better AI, a more integrated/immersive overworld, better level design, and from my POV the Division Beta had almost as much singleplayer content than Destiny Vanilla (got about 7 hours out of the Beta and it's 1/5th of the map with one difficulty mode), and I absolutely enjoyed the gameplay more.

So I would have a big problem if The Division turned out to be Destiny 2.0

This game is looking really good, but be still my beating heart can this be an Ubi game that will not disappoint me?

I hope some of you gaffers play on the Xbox One, because the game should be pretty awesome with some "friends".

Assassin's Creed Syndicate and Rainbow Six Siege are two of the best games from last year and probably the two best games Ubi have produced in the last 10 years (along with Splinter Cell Blacklist).

In one year Ubi singlehandedly turned me into a supporter again. Which I haven't been since 2007 or so.

I have faith in The Division.

I fucking hate that Sainsburys discontinued their online Entertainment store. The prices were good, availability was decent (for a store that doesn't specialise in games) and I have a discount card. Their in store selection in Maidenhead at least is a joke. There's a tonne of stuff in the warehouse as well that you wouldn't now they have in stock unless you ask for it, and somebody can be bothered to go and look for it.

Maybe they would have had the Gold edition available if Entertainment was still around, no chance they'll have it in store though :(

Yep, that was annoying when they got rid. Oh well, I can always save my gift cards for uncharted 4 and just buy gold version on amazon :)

The downside is the ammo capacity :(

True. I had about 11 shots per mag but I also had the 13% reload speed mod that helped out at least. Most of the time I would empty the clip and then swap to MP5 burst. Usually worked out well but of course we were only playing at a low level. We'll see how it fares at cap.

See, I'm 80% co-op over single player when I can so, yeah, our perspectives are totally different here.

thisisneogaf.gif

Sounds like a "What If" comic.

* The Division fails to gain control and the DZ expands to all of New York

or

* The Division cleans up the DZ and its all PVE.

Either way its bad IMO. As a guy who likes both chilling out grinding out mobs and high tension kill or be killed play in short spurts, it sucks. If I buy the 2nd expansion do I always have to play in 100% DZ? If I can choose, can I move the same character back and forth?

Hmm this has me rethinking my pre-order.

It's totally optional, man.

I don't get why people are getting so hung up on this. The second DLC must be an optional mode where all of Manhattan is a Dark Zone. That's how DLC works - optional. This is PvP focused. You don't need to log into it or download it if you don't want to.

The first DLC is singleplayer/co-op focused. We don't know about the third.

If you're considering cancelling your pre-order... That won't change anything. You would never actually get this content - unless you pre-ordered the edition with the Season Pass - in which case why not just downgrade to a regular DLC version?

Pretty much this just by looking at all the little colored location markers in that gif. You can tell that the PvE side of the game presented in the beta is just that, multiplied a couple of times and spread over the whole map in the full games release. Main missions, side missions to max out your base of operations, random encounters, echoes, collectible stuff, crafting material locations, etc. and you'll get the whole idea. I don't consider this to be a bad thing though, there was enough variety in these little side activities to keep me busy for hours and make the combat even more satisfying. Some games get it right, some don't... The Division seems to do alot right in regards to this type of content and design philosophy. It all comes together quite nicely thanks to the whole setting, very detailed environments, streamlined controls, UI and how the dynamic weather and lighting can affect your experience. Many people love the PvP aspect of going rogue inside the DZ, fine by me, but for me personaly, the moments I had the most fun and immersion was the seamless exploration of this beatifully rendered representation of a ravaged NYC. Just me, my guns, the city, some baddies and a whole lot to explore... preferably during nighttime while engulfed in a massive snowstorm for dat extra ambience and atmosphere.

Yes, Ubisoft's bloat philosophy never worked because they rarely managed to get their game mechanics good enough to match all the content and keep things fresh.

In AC Syndicate, they put a lot of work into improving the game mechanics and streamlining the game/gameplay, and as a result it's super playable and infinitely more fun - even if it still has a lot of the same 'bloat' structures in place.

The Division looks like it's going the same way. Yeah, there are loads of icons, but we know from the Beta that the icons relate to well-designed encounters, with good gameplay, good AI and compelling background systems and simulation.

At least the gold edition is 20% off with Amazon Prime.

If you have a few UPlay points, the Gold edition is also 20% off if you buy a discouns with 100U points (IIRC).

While I LOVED the beta am in Day 1, I'm not going to purchase the Season Pass ($40 i.e. same price as gold ed. add-on) until I see more info on the DLC. I bought the destiny season pass and I'd already quit the game before the 2nd DLC came out.
I also HATE that there is 30 day exclusivity, so bad for everyone imo.

On the subject of the 2nd DLC, I'd imagine that even if you downloaded it you will be prompted to "load into" that variation. There is NO way ubi is that dumb to force a PVP zone on someone.

I agree with all of this.

I'm bored so I'm thinking about things that could spice up the DZ a bit more; what do you guys think about the addition of supply drops that show up for everyone on the map containing a variety of consumables with maybe some dz cash as well. Nothing too frequent, maybe like once every 2 hours or so. Could even attract some NPC's too.

Good idea. Dying Light style. Would be awesome and create really tense/crazy encounters.

Lore wise: who would drop stuff in A DZ when there is people in need just a few blocks away?

Bulletsponge these days is a negatively loaded word, which is why i dislike it.

Makes it sound like "waaah waah they take more than 2 bullets to die" which is what most people do, indeed cry about.
Seeing as its an RPG pointing out "bulletsponge" is the same as calling Dark Souls or any other Medieval RPG "Swordsponge"

Yes that's the problem.
The term sponge only applies to shooters apparently so it's just wrong.

That would be an interesting addition. It would also pull players away from camping extractions if the drop gets marked for everyone. Just make the rewards tempting enough to draw people to it.

Thinking WoW here for a moment. Maybe have an NPC that walks around the DZ that only spawns every 2-4 hours or so. Has a chance to drop a certain piece of gear.

Lore wise: who would drop stuff in A DZ when there is people in need just a few blocks away?

Maybe a squad of LMB trying to extract something out of the DZ and its down to players to disrupt it and snatch the goods.

Hehe, my inspiration was Dying Light actually.

Dammit, true. Well if there are LMB soldiers in the DZ maybe the LMB could do supply drops for their soldiers stuck there? Depends on if the LMB are entirely situated in NYC of course and have no external presence outside of NYC.

Maybe a squad of LMB trying to extract something out of the DZ and its down to players to disrupt it and snatch the goods.

Hmm, that also could work

Yes. It would be all out warfare between parties of 4. Too bad stealth solo players wouldn't have a chance.

In The Division's defence, the structure/design we saw in the Beta was infinitely more promising than Destiny.

In Division Beta it is:
> here is a smallish chunk of map. You can actually see the entire game's map by zooming out, and we've shown it off in videos. You know exactly how much game you're getting!
> in the Beta alone there is almost as much good SP content as there was in the entirety of Destiny's full release. And they've shown off in videos the full map with all the missions/content you'll get on it.

C'mon, I found Destiny lacking content as much as anyone else and I was very critical of the game in both states (beta & release) but let's no get crazy here.

Not gonna happen, sorry to tell you. Game has very short and aggressive drawing distance for NPC's and players, and you can't do damage over that drawing distance barrier. Having .50 cal Barrett rifle with 30x scope would do you no good as you can only fire up to 70 or so meters, if lucky. Noticed whole drawing distance... issue when I got up to the roof and tried to snipe rogues, they just disappeared at drawing distance wall.

Edit: My M44 Carbine was able to 2 hit kill players

I absolutely reached a point where I was killing most things with two shots in the closed beta - using a blue M1A1.

M1A1 was utterly out of balance and ludicrously powerful. If they don't rebalance it there is absolutely no reason not to always have M1A1 on your back in full release, limiting weapon variety.

Ah that's a shame but makes total sense.

Do you remember the DPS your M44 and M1A1's were outputting and what their crits were?

I think DPS rating for my M44 was around 4-4.5k with my firearms gear on. I didn't use M1A, used it in closed beta so much that I got bored of how out of balance it's. My friend didn't do firearms build and he was still able to 2-3 hit kill players with M1A, says a lot about how balanced that weapon is.

Edit:
The LMB are meant to have tanks right? Or vehicles at least.

At least in lore heard over radio they have armored vehicles, most likely humvees and LAV's. Not sure if we actually need fight those vehicles because we don't have AT weaponry, afaik.

I ended up with a purple one and although it was pretty impressive, against players who had decent armor and rank it was ok. Plus trying to aim up at running rogues zigzagging and running between cars. I found the assault rifles easier to use in those situations.

My M1A was up to 5k dps had extendo mag with fire rate bonus

With buffs popped I hit 12k crit on npc, definitely varied 3k,5k,9k

On players it was 2k-3k head shots
Body was 1kish

Hmm, that seems a little low to 2-3 shot... but who knows. That is encouraging however.

I don't like how the game handled weapon attachments... I had a list of them, but it wasn't clear which attachment could be used with which gun type, etc...

Other than that, the loot felt satisfying. I can't wait to play more!

March 8, right?

Not really when we consider that effective range is basically same as for AR's most of the time, because how environments are builds. I can unload mag from 6k DPS Liberator to player and not even put in dent, and then my friend with shitty DPS build 2-3 hit kills same player with his M1A. That is major unbalance.
