Haven't played nearly enough to form a proper opinion. My personal highlight was MHW despite it's technical issues and I found Clair to be pretty mediocre. However, let me say this: I honestly can't understand people naming Bananza. I've played around 7 hours of it and while it's not bad by any means, it's also painfully generic, boring and uninspired. I don't get the hype, at all. Seems to have been a great year all in all for most people, though.

Some of the P-Switch challenges in Mario Kart World, particular the ones on the Golden Gate Bridge analogue, gave me the highest of highs in gaming this year, but I'm not bind to its' many flaws. And that's a microcosm for the games I've played this year, too many glaring design or technical issues to just brush aside.

My personal is Donkey Kong, but most of the industry will vote for Expedition 33. And I'm 100% ok with that.

I dropped it about 8 hours in, unlocked some side mission "sniper rifle", after going
through one of those gates
for the first time and creating some links.

I've been tempted to give it another shot, but maybe later through the year. Something about the game felt too easy and depressing... What is your take on the game? I loved the first game a lot, on PC. I also have a big backlog and other games I'm curious to play these upcoming weeks :)
For me DS2 is catharsis. It is very cerebral. There are so many moments in the game that you would like to stop or walk around to enjoy the view, night and day, and the weather. It is a very beautiful game even on base ps5. The world building and helping others online build structures, roads and monorail are highly addictive. And infiltrating and wiping out mule camps and Bt areas in so many way is also fun and addictive. Delivering feels good to achieve 5 star and S deliveries, it is very rewarding. There so many secrets, interesting lore and weird but very engaging story. Very good acting from the actors and actresses. And the game is very based, none of that woke twisted gender ideology crap. It is game of the year for me and probably one of the best game of this generation.

I'm not saying this just because I have bias in favor of the game because I do, but it's Expedition 33.

II see very few scenarios in which it doesn't clean house.

Reviews and overall fan feedback were almost too glowing.

Oh and Kojima probably gonna win best direction (because godamn at some of those scenes in DS2) but his real goty is reserved for Physint or whatever that not-mgs game gonna be called.

Am going with Doom TDA for now.

Most exhilarating combat system. Could be overtaken by NG4 though.

Overall my top 5 are all pretty close. None of them are complete stand out.

Hollow Knight: SilkSong and it ain't even close.
Ghost of Yotei would have to be unfuckingbelievable to beat it.

For me, nothing comes close to Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, as an older gamer it's super rare for me to finish a game and then say that it's like top5 games of all time, which probably hasn't happened for decades.

From the outside looking in I would have thought Clair Obscur is the strongest of the poll options with Silent Hill f being a potential contender by the end

This made me realize I haven't played a single game released this year. Just been doing backlog stuff. I will be playing Yotei though.

My personal pick is KCD2, but I think Expedition 33 is just as good and probably has a better chance due to it being one of the best games within it's category of all time.

So far:

Game of the year: Donkey Kong Bananza
Surprise of the year: Fumes
Disappointment of the year: Doom The Dark Ages

Might change when FF Tactics Ivalice Chronicles releases, though.

Earthion is game of the year, nobody knew it would end up being one of the best Genesis shooters of all time, especially since the platform has long since gone...this game, you get what you paid for, no paywall nothing..you don't get many standout shooters in recent years...and also the Ninja game of the year is: Shinobi

Overhyped title of the year: Metal Gear Solid Delta....basically Konami trying to relive their glory years, and if there was a Metal Gear 6, I can't see it being better than MGS1-4

Silksong is great but its pretty much Hollow Knight, while Clair 33 is an emotional surprise hit so its better. That being said, there are some games left to play/release such as Hades 2, Dying Light, Bloodlines 2, etc. Still too early for me to tell.

It's still Clair Obscur (9.5/10) for me, by quite a significant margin. It's one of those rare instances were everything just clicked for me, from gameplay to story and graphics to music.
Followed by Silksong (just started Act 3 and so far it's an 8.5 or 9 for me), Blue Prince (8), and Split Fiction (7.5).

I don't think I've even played more than four games that released this year. :messenger_loudly_crying: I tend to always trail by a year or two, unless something gets released that really interests me.

Also, unfortunately I don't have a Switch 2 yet, otherwise DK Bananza looks like something that would easily be in my top 3 of the year, maybe even #1 if it's close to Mario Odyssey.

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is great, and it's not even my genre.

Hell is Us is a pleasant surprise. I hope Silent Hill f will turn out good.

What is your take on the game?
had plenty od those in the OT, in short I absolutely loved it despite its frustratingly nonsensical story and how relatively little it evolves DS1 despite 7 years dev time, but thats ok as the core loop is still 10/10

I was torn between Expedition 33, Death Stranding 2, and DK Bananza. But in retrospect, Expedition 33 it was the most fun I had with a game this year.

I am wating for Yotei and SH F to decide, but...

So far: Nightreign.

Fighting for the second place: AC Shadows, Death Stranding 2 and Wuchang.

Im amazed at how low KC2 is on the list.
It received a tremendous welcome here, and was the far better game between it and Expedition 33.

At least we know what wins the gaffers heart in the hardcore gameplay mechanics RPG against rythm game mechanics RPG.
Im myself a filthy casual who couldn't even bother to get to the mariage in KC2, and managed to finish e33 in a week, and still i voted KC2 because i know my own shortcomings shouldn't detract from truth :messenger_blowing_kiss:

Donkey Kong Bananza for me, I think. Still a few potential bangers left though, with Metroid Prime 4 in December I can't say for sure until after that l.

My pick so far is Khazan, it is amazing. That said, I have yet to beat the other main releases, so my pick might change by the end. Currently I'm playing E33, and it is also excellent.

So far, Cronos The New dawn is one the best games I've played this year, it's exceptionally well made and it just hits all the right spots for me.

Death Stranding 2 could take that spot but I haven't finished it yet (in fact I'm only on chapter 2).

Silent Hill F and Ninja Garden 4 aren't out yet so...

The only award this year I really want to see happen is Troy Baker for best performance in DS2.

He stole the show in every scene he is in, and carried that game for me on his back.

I love the performances in Clair 33, but Troy gave a movie level Oscar performance in a game.

He really deserves it even if I think he as a person is a tool.
