The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion |OT|

I won't be able to play the game for four days and I have a competant PC plus a 360. I'm actually pretty bummed out about it so I hope Bethesday shows off the game at GDC (HINT HINT)!

Wow, thats the first time I've seen that kid....that fucking scary. How can you possibly get that angry about a computer? What a loon.

You'd be that desperate too if you just found out that the internet has porn.

Are there any videos of the gamelay played in a 3rd person view?

I'm not really into western RPGs (though I kinda enjoyed Jade Empire) but this game looks fantastic and is a definite must-buy for me!

Just saw the video. *droooool* :D The sound of the wind is great, sounds like the sound desing of Oblivion is way better then in Morrowind.

Great, if that means that the dialogue in the PAL version sold in Italy is translated/dubbed by Italian actors I will just have to order the game from a store in the U.K.: I want my Patrick Stewart voice darn-it ;).

last time i looked at the price it was just too much. With delivery i think it was around 80 euros.

And i just checked GAME website and the 360 collectors is not listed anymore.

oh right, you can't just go into a shop and get it? Where do you live?

£50 it costs here, thats about 72 Euros. I'd offer to ship it to you but the cost would be the same :\

No, non ti preoccupare :) They are not going to (actually, they didn't) change the voices, it's only subtitled.

I´m from Spain. Thanks for the offer, really appreciated.

I can spend the money and get it from GAME if they put it back on the web but it´s just that i think it may be too much money for just one game and it hurts knowing the ntsc will be almost half the price.

Does anyone know if you can raise acrobatics as high as you could in Morrowind? One of my favorite things in Morrowind was jumping from roof top to roof top as a thief in the night.

Nope. They took out levitation/acrobatics, I believe.

edit: Oops. I mispoke. Acrobatics is still in. Levitation is out. So jumping from roof to roof might be possible. One of the gurus or Steve or Vark should be able to confirm though.

edit2: Noticed on the Codex of the Official Elder Scrolls site that they've changed the skills around (so spear and separate long/short blade skills are gone, consolidated into "Blade" now) to reflect those in Oblivion. The description for Acrobatics, which is under Stealth skills, is
Acrobatics
Jump long distances and avoid damage when falling great distances.

Governing Attribute: Speed

If true (and if all the books, all in-game text is still in English)... then...

Haha, Victory Is Mine!

Yeah, I've got to stop looking at these screen shots and videos. This could be the longest week of my life! :D

I won't stop looking. I can't stop looking!

steve: which version are the videos from?
Yesterday, he said he wasn't sure which platform the video is from. I guess we can take that as good news, if both versions look so similar that even one of the coders can't tell the difference.

thnx.

After a bunch of mirrors went up on yesterday's file, we modified the downloads web page to link to them. I presume the same will happen with today's video.

Wow. These videos are pretty popular. Pain in the ass to get though. I was 10th on the line on 3dgamers, and then it kicked me out. Now I'm the 40th.

sweet horse video, animation looked good. on the second viewing i loved looking around at all of the scenery in the background, the mountain looked awsome :)

The new video is nice! Animation looks smooth, and the lighting effects of the torch at night looked very impressive. Can't wait to play this!

Wow, I just showed this new video to my girlfriend, and she started crying! I don't know if it was due to the horses... the beautiful music... or the fact that our relationship is doomed once I pop this disk into my 360.

These new videos are like porn to me. I want it so bad! At least with real porn I can self gratify myself but nothing I can do but wait for Oblivion :(

That video was nice, I didn't know the game was going to look that good.

Okay, so convince me, people, why I should get this game.

I've never played any of the previous titles, not much of a fan of first-person games, nor of nontraditional RPGs.

That said, I'm open minded. What is it about this game that has people so excited? What is the game even like?

It's the next entry in one of the most non-linear RPG series to exist. Its epic. Its beautiful. Its got an amazing score. Its incredibly immersive. You can customize your character in so many ways. Skills, appearance, armor, spells, abilities. Its got an explorable landmass of 16 square miles (not including dungeons), its got the most complex AI architecture out there for NPCs that interact with each other and evolve to the world you're changing.

Simply put- its the next step in gaming. After this game comes out, other games better be following its lead.
