The Elder Scrolls Online |OT| of THE MOST HYPED GAME EVER

So I remember seeing a lot of negativity for this game when the beta started, but it seems like there's a lot of positivity in this thread right now. Do you guys feel like they've significantly improved this since beta or were you guys on bored from the beginning? I'm curious about getting it once it comes to PS4.

The Elder Scrolls to be are about immersion, the "stranger in a strange world" feel.

If I got this I was going to play in first person, so, has anyone in first person mode experienced that "stranger in a strange land" feel yet? Does it feel like walking around in an elder scrolls game?

Awesome. As long as i can download it at my university on a flash drive i'll be happy. There won't be any problems (besides maybe updates) will there?
Shouldn't be, there was a 700MB update yesterday, I assume you will have to download that also after you install the main client

Yes, been playing TES games for a long time and this just feels like another TES game but online. It's beautiful in first person and maxed out. The music is great and really sets the atmosphere too. There have been some changes though because it is online but it's still great to explore and play.

I went weird and made a female orc sorcerer. It seems fairly easy to die or get caught in tough situations so I think I'm going to try and take advantage of the orc's heavy armor bonus and tank while I cast and slash.

I love all the different possibilities there are when it comes to how you play the game. It is a tad overwhelming at the start, but a nice change of pace from most mmos.

If anyone's doing an archer build our Nightblade build, what are you guys focusing on for skills and specs (Health, Stamina, Magicka?)

Stamina so far. Granted, I'm only level 4 or 5 at the moment. I have unlocked all 3 class skills so that each category will start leveling up. I don't know if this is ideal or not, but I'm not much of a min/max person anyways.

Edit - I also have poison arrow unlocked.

I gotta ask... is there a specific reason why the opinion has turned around on ESO like this? It seems like a month ago it was the joke of the year but now it seems everyone has done a 180. Was there some miracle patch or what?

Thanks for sharing. As someone who plays few MMOs, I'm struggling to find my direction with my character. The choice they give you in this game is great, but I'm worried I'm given enough type to hang myself with a poor build.

People are spending more time with it and getting out of the starter island.

I think they just kept improving the game and fixing the bugs. And it helps that people are playing the game now and not just sideline bitching about something they haven't played. Happens a lot on GAF these days.

It seems much more so than oblivion and skyrim which had more consistant themes, but lost some of the crazy of morrowind. I haven't seen most of the game, but the area I'm in does have giant mushrooms.

Well I'm glad it's turning out good. This game was completely off my radar due to the negativity over the years but now that I'm getting real impressions it sounds like it could be fun as hell.

I am up to Level 15 and have not had one quest that is bugged. My only issue has been a crash due to a server issue. Other than that it has been incredibly smooth for me.

I bet you're not in Daggerfall covenant.

Apart from the quests, I have now a bug that will crash my client everytime I try to log him in.
Second character that has this, always happen to me around the "assassins in crates" zone.

@Interfectum if you enjoy questing and PvE, ESO has some of the best questing I have seen in a MMO. Granted I haven't played many but the ones that I have played (WoW, SWTOR, FFXIV, and GW2) ESO has them beat by a mile.

Haven't touched PvP so can't comment on that.

People played the game. The number of people saying "this looks like shit" without touching it was mind blowing. Media didn't/doesn't help. MMOs are usually not appreciated by the media because they cannot spend 40+ hours in a single game when they have to review new releases constantly. That's not really their fault, but it is a factor.

Throw in the fact that it was pretty buggy, collision detection wasn't in, and that this is an MMO of a beloved franchise, and you have yourself a shitstorm.

Didn't get the memo regarding the 14th Amendment
After seeing the positive impressions of this, I may consider the PS4 version (or XB1 version if there is such a thing) but one thing that concerns me: lore.

Is this canonically related to the main Elder Scrolls games or is this taking on its own timeline with its own events? I don't get how the alliances work necessarily (in GB's quicklook, from what I've seen, it looked like it didn't matter what race went to which alliance) and does it make sense for imperials to even exist yet -- or at least be in every alliance?

Also, will the console(s) and PC have cross-platform play?

The questing sounds awesome. I've played roughly the same MMOs as you plus/minus.

Yeah I just came off of listening to the latest GB and they pretty much mocked it the entire time then Jeff was talking about how everyone that has played the beta thought it was bland and boring. Seems like such a disconnect from reading this thread and reddit.

How is transportation handled? Are the areas big?

I played this game at a trade show last year and it was hands down the WORST show floor experience I've ever had. Absolute broken garbage. A developer had to un-stuck me from geometry three times and the game was an ugly, buggy mess that couldn't even handle grouping with other players without screwing up.

I had the game sent to me and I have to say, it has some problems but the final game is lightyears ahead of the pre-release experience. The visuals are much improved, and while there are still some silly bugs it's overall a much less disastrous game than I was expecting. I'm having a good time.

I don't think the early negativity was misplaced, though.

I dunno XANDER CAGE, this game has gotten a ton of hate because it seemed to be another SWTOR or because it was an MMO in the first place. I can understand being critical towards a game, but the game is/was still in development and people just threw this game under the bus way too early and piled on the hate. The game still has issues, but it's pretty damn enjoyable.

The areas can be large and the PVP zone is MASSIVE. The game is instanced, though. When you go into a dungeon or stumble onto a hidden tomb/crypt, many will be instanced (similar to Skyrim).

Beyond that, there's a waypoint teleport system, which you need to pay to use, as well as traditional on-foot and horse travel.

Finally questing in a MMORPG feels fun and engaging. Most of the quests have a nice story, and you dont see a lot of the nonsense that became the (low) standard in this genre.

I would say that the standard for all the quests in ESO is to be as good as the best quests you would encounter in other MMOs; the ones that remain stuck in your mind because they are done better than all the rest.

Agreed. The game does have some issues, Questing is NOT one of them at all.

Are there any kind of in-game hints as to where skyshards are? I've been exploring around outside Daggerfall for hours, all the way to level 7, and I've only found one.

I don't really want a guide... just wondering if there is anything I'm missing as far as locating them?

Yes!

The achievement hints will give it to you. Here's an example, "Southern temple's hidden jewel."

Dungeons, named with a torch, can sometimes have them. Otherwise, explore and keep your eyes open for beams of light.

Your don't have to pay for waypoint fast travel if you travel between waypoints. It only costs to warp to one from anywhere else. Run to the nearest and select another to travel for free.

And Cyrodiil is fucking enormous.

Is there a reason why I sometimes can't hold down the mouse button and drag the map around?

At random times the game won't allow me to do it... can't figure out why.

Ah, i did not know that. Thanks!

Had a great time in the Head Start. I was hoping to get to level 20, but I only made it to 17. I hope things continue to run smoothly after the official launch.

God yes, I'm in love with this game. Over the last 4 days I've been off work and I've easily played 40 hours or more. That's ridiculous for me, I haven't done that since my Everquest days, I never even did that with WoW. And I haven't even touched PvP yet. I'm excited about this game like I haven't been about an MMO in a very long time. Maybe it's the fact that this game wasn't hyped to death and all the negativity surrounding it kept my expectations in check, but it's gone from something completely off my radar a weeks ago to hard sell and subscription. Sometimes impulse purchases really do pay off!

Is there a way to DL this right now? I got off of GMG right as the servers went down... I can wait to play, I just want to have it downloaded sometime today.

I can't really blame people for being skeptical of a pay-to-play classic style MMO based on an exclusively single-player franchise in the current climate, especially considering it didn't look very good when it was initially revealed and continued to demo poorly.
