The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Mod Discussion and News [Creation Kit released]

First post in here, basically I just started playing Skyrim, added some mods etc etc just booted it up got past the opening chapter, encountered one massive problem though.

Whenever some fire is in my FOV (from torches mounted on walls, bonfires etc) the screen flashes greeny/yellow, making it nearly unplayable. I can only imagine it is because of a mod conflict or something, not sure if anybodies had this problem before.

See image below for load order/mods I'm using, any help much appreciated you wonderful people!

Yeah, you need to run loot because that load order is all fucked up.

You know, this game can look really, really nice with the right mods:

Does anyone know how to get the free cam to work so I can freeze the game and take pics from any angle?

Official HD Textures overwritten with SRO textures.
2K textures are good for landscapes but they don't tile that well in other places last time I checked.

I've never found legendary difficulty that fun. It's built for having an overpowered follower or being a conjuration mage. It's better to install mods that make enemies stronger and smarter and keeping the difficulty level at adept ~ expert.

So I took your advice and dialed it back down to expert and installed the Skrim Immersive Creatures and revenge of the enemies mods and the game's been pretty fun. I grinded out a nicely enchanted full legendary Daedric set at level 36 which made things easy enough that I went back to Legendary and had been having a nice challenge but not getting one shot-ed...

UNTIL I TOOK THE RED EAGLE QUEST at level 46.... BROKEN! SO SO BROKEN! Four key pieces of evidence: He spawns fire wasps that block your path to him. He has a shout that does 136 points of damage PER SECOND for 10 seconds, he has a sword arm to powerful it destroys conjured Daedra Lords in one swing if they can manage to reach him and finally when you kill him (and I'll tell you how in a second) he drops ~3300 gold. If how much gold a boss carries is indicative of the strength, nothing in this game has ever paid out this much. He was doing cheap things the player is only know to do... when he does the fire shout, it throws you and paralyzes you while you burn but he runs over to you and whacks you while your still paralyzed and you health drains faster than you can restore with Ultimate Healing potions.... its broken.

To kill him, I hat to leave the dungeon and go back home to get my broken breaker... a "special" set of daedric armor set I created to give me 100%+ resistance to fire and magic and then I drank special fortify health potions to raise my maximum health high enough to not get one shot-ed by his sword arm.

I've gone back to my normal armor set but it tickles me to no end that I have to keep this deliberately over-powered specialized armor set to deal with enemies whose states exceed reason.

Friendly advice: Press "Alt" + "Print Screen" to capture an image of the current window. You can then paste it to paint and save the image so no need to take photos. :)

tfc 1 to freeze the game and freecam. The freecam might be a little fast, so type sucsm (1 is slow and 10 is fast and anywhere in between.)

Haha I am aware of this but thanks anyway, it was simply because I couldn't remember which image hosting site I've signed up on and didn't feel like doing it again!

Yeah, you need to run loot because that load order is all fucked up.

So I've got LOOT running, couldn't really find many instructions for it but I played around with it a bit, and after manually changing the order to what most websites say and doing `Sort Plugins` I end up with the report of 22 active plugins, 4 dirty plugins (all the stock dlc), 4 warnings and 0 errors. However my bug is still very much occurring! Quoted again for reference:

I'll never be able to quit this crazy game will I? *sigh*

Newest character

ENBs still aren't working for me (frame-rate hit just isn't worth it). Maybe I should try forcing some more AA, grabbing better textures, and getting dynavision so I can use DOF to blur the ugly stuff.

You should clean those plugins using TES5edit, then make a batched patch in wyre bash.

It's funny what happens when the physics in this game actually work the way they're supposed to.

You don't have many mods installed, so try disabling each esp one at a time until you find the one causing your a problem (start from the bottom; it's unlikely to be one of the vanilla esp's or unofficial patches). Also, clean your dirty plugins; here's how.

So I've been trying to play a Requiem game for a while now and I'm bored to tears. Just no fun at all. I spend 10 minutes hammering the button to chop wood, sell wood, repeat. I've done some Smithing and it seems like I was visibly gaining experience in that (and Speech when I sold the items) at first but now it's slowed to a crawl, very little experience gained for both skills. I'm only Level 3 and thus cannot fight anything, even the simple "clear out the bandit camp" quests, I get one-shotted by an arrow even in heavy armor.

So, any suggestions on how to have more fun? Maybe stop chopping wood and actually do something that will give me experience? Smithing would be fine but I can't carry enough ore to smith enough to gain experience. I've tried heavy and light armor and aren't really comfortable with either (I miss Medium Armor :(). Any suggestions on how to have fun with this mod would be great as it looks like a rewarding experience if I got into it. Thanks GAF.

What am I supposed to do with Mod Organizer when installing mods that ... don't quite suit it?

I've successfully installed quite a few by setting the right data file, but there seem to be others that are more complex and I really can't suss what to do with them.

No game data on top level - no matter how I re-organise it, even when all the data is at the top level.

Specifically this applies to 'Weapons & Armor Fixes Remade & XP32 Maximum Skeleton.

I am working through the STEP Project. I am new to modding in general but pacing my way through this. Probably just something obvious I'm missing, though I've done google searches for what I think should answer my questions and come up blank.

GAF?

This is actually why I stopped using it. It does a lot of really cool things, but there's a lot that's more of a headache in MO than just using NMM or Wyre Bash as loaders/management systems.

That looks amazing. The first pic looks like Windrunner from Dota lol. What kind of PC does it take to run those graphics mods at a reasonable FPS? My graphics setup is pretty decent but that looks crazy.

When MO tells you that there's no game data on the top level, all you have to do is right click on the data folder and set it to data directory.

I appreciate the reply but I don't think the answer is so simple. I have successfully done what you suggest with other mods, but I think I'm handling something of a slightly different class?

What would you pick?

How are you installing it? If it's downloaded through MO (or added to the download folder), then when you go to install it, the fomod or bain installer should kick off where you go through a wizard and pick options to have it build the data folder for you. That one specifically has a fomod (hence the folder), so it should be activating.

>_<

RIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIGHT.

So I should simply AVOID clicking 'manual' after it gives me all those lovely GUI options, and just click 'Next' instead ... ?

Yep. Bloody, fucking hell. Bomba always overcomplicates things.

Thanks for the pointers!

All that work to make it look like a Korean MMO...

Korean MMOs don't look like this:

There really is no point in playing legendary since all that does is make you deal a quarter damage and receive thrice damage.
I'm assuming what's happening in your case is your combined enchanting, alchemy and smithing skills are a lot higher than your armor or weapon skills. So you're weak compared to your level. This is important because Skyrim levels enemies according to your level (e.g: The moment you reach level 20, Skyrim may introduce new enemies at level 25)
Get some good balancing mod and just play the game (NO grinding enchanting and smithing). That's the only way to make Skyrim not broken. It's more fun that way too.

Actually, just ignore smithing and enchanting. Or at least tempering if you have to level up smithing. Remember you can level up enchanting by recharging weapons too, so you don't have to grind enchanting with iron daggers. This has the added benefit of looting good items mean something and having to actually spend the mountain of gold you end up with.

.

Thanks. I'm running a 3570K OC'd at 4.4Ghz with a OC'd GTX670 (2GB) with 16GB of RAM.

Indoors it runs for the most part at 30fps but outside it can really, really chug at times due to the overwhelming amount of high quality texture mods and extra environmental mods like extra grass.

Do you have interesting NPC's? Because if you don't you should get interesting NPC's.

Everyone should get interesting NPC's.

For Perks :

For big changes, SkyRe. It adds tons of perks and one of the best thing about it is that it modifies vanilla enemies to start with similar hp, mp and stamina as you (So no more tank enemies with 1000+ hp). But many enemies added by other mods will still have vanilla like stats. SkyRe requires a lot of attention to detail to make it compatible with many mods. Fortunately there are tons of patches available on Nexus.

I personally use SSR (Skyrim Skills Redesigned). Very few endorsements but the most balanced in my opinion. I use the modular version so I can replaced smithing with smithing perk overhaul and complete crafting overhaul remade. I also use leveling redesigned but can't recommend that to everyone since it's really up to personal taste.

For enemies:

I use High Level Enemies (non-scaling) hardcore version. Doesn't modify vanilla enemies but adds tons of stronger enemies later in game. The nexus page doesn't describe what Hardcore version does so I'll explain it here.
In vanilla, there are 4 types of dungeons, easy, normal, hard and very hard. In easy and normal dungeons, enemies will typically have much lower levels than you while hard dungeons have enemies with similar levels. With the hardcore version, easy and normal dungeons have enemies with similar levels compared to you and hard and very hard dungeons have enemies stronger than you. Also if you use hardcore version, play in novice ~ adept difficulty (vanilla adept = hardcore novice, vanilla legendary = hardcore expert).

Yeah, Red Eagle is cheap as FUCK with Revenge of the Enemies. There's a fine line between challenging and bullshit.

Okay so I disabled every mod and esp, including the official DLC, and the problem still persists. Any ideas Gaf?

This is what it looks like:

I just read that disabling AA and anisotropic filtering fixes it, but I don't want to be playing without these two...

Just gonna make sure my graphics drivers are up to date and try again.
Are you running an ENB ?

if yes you must disable AA and AF in the launcher.

ENB come with their own aa and af method.

Not disabling them can lead to issues like the one you posted.

i f yes you must disable aa and AF in the launcher

I mod that I like a lot is the SkyXP. It changes the leveling system to make it similar to Fallout. You'll only gain experience by completing quest, discovering locations, unlocking locks, etc, so it removes tedious grinding. Then you can choose exactly what skills you'll want to level.

Yeah, it is not as realistic as leveling archery everytime I hit someone with an arrow, but I think it is way more fun.

There is a version of this mod to Oblivion too.

just started playing skyrim for the first time on PC.
got the stock high resolution texture pack. game looks wonderful.

what small mods should I install first to improve the graphics?
nothing major yet just want to make sure my hardware can handle incremental increases.
right now my PC can handle all the stock settings at max + 1080p/60fps.

For weather and/or lighting: Climates of Tamriel or RCRN or Pure Weather
For Lighting: Enhanced Lights and FX or Realistic Lighting Overhaul
Water: Realistic Water Two or Pure Waters or WATER - Water and Terrain Enhancement Redux
For better meshes/textures on smaller objects: Ruins Clutter Improved, Static Mesh Improvement Mod, SkyFalls + Skymills, Better Dynamic Snow, Detailed Rugs, Lorkhans Vision - Night Sky, Enhanced Distant Terrain, Project Parallax.
Better Female Models: Caliente's Beautiful Bodies Edition or DIMONIZED UNP
Female Textures: Mature Skin or SG Female Textures Renewal. Make sure to get the one that matches your body, either CBBE or UNP.
Better Male Models: Better Males, High Res Face Maps for Men
Trees and Foliage: Skyrim Flora Overhaul, Lush Trees and Grass
Bigger texture overhauls (most likely to impact FPS): Skyrim 2K Textures, Vivid Landscapes All In One
The last step is an ENB. There are many, and which is best is more subjective, this will also cause the biggest performance hit with a possible 20-30fps drop. If that's too much, you can try I Can't Believe It's Not an ENB.

Naturally there's much more in every category, but this will get you started pushing your system to see what it can handle with acceptable performance. You'll find each by googling their name followed by the word 'Nexus' (or just searching here) and you'll want Nexus Mod Manager to install them, and LOOT to put them in the correct load order. Also the unofficial patches are a must, and SkyUI is recommended.

Is there any good way to mitigate the blow-out in certain weather conditions? I got this at times in my old modded copy, and it shows up in vanilla as well (IIRC.)

Any recommendations? I tried Real Vision but that fucked up the sky, and Air had DoF that never focused. The world was a literal full blur.

I'm also on AMD Crossfire, as I read that can have weird issues with ENB.
Crossfire causes that DoF problem you're referring to. Turn off DoF and you're fine.

Nice screenshots, good to know others are still playing this game just as I am years after its release. I'd post my own screenshots but the female character I've recently started probably wouldn't be SFW.

Here's a couple of screens I took a month ago using RealVision. I'm currently using Project ENB but I think I'm going to switch to Natural Lighting and Atmospherics ENB.

Man, going to try a few more ENBs but if they're as taxing as even the performance version of Aeon I won't be able to use them. It takes my GPU load from middling to maxed out. Since trying it I started getting random crashes.

Sucks since it made the lighting look way less overblown in the daytime, which is my goal.

They're all fairly taxing, in my experience. 20-30fps drop. As for random crashes, the Skyrim Memory Patch might help if you aren't using it. Doubles the size of the memory heaps and made my very modded game much more stable. Otherwise, if you can't handle an ENB, a SweetFX preset might help with your lighting with minimal performance impact, or something like RCRN.

Make sure that you disable features that you don't need if all you want is the color correction.

Cheers, I'll look into how to turn it off, and that ENB.
Press the tidle key "~", then press shift+enter to bring up the ENB's GUI. Now you can deselect DoF, then press "Save Configuration".

You can also try this ENB.
Kalicolas Enhanced Graphics ENB v2.0 beta
http://www.2shared.com/file/RDEKVidl/Kalicolas_Enhanced_Graphics_EN.html - Has no AA except SMAA and it's DoF effect is quite low quality.

Without DoF
@ 4k getting around 25 to 40fps
@ 3440x1440 getting between 35 to 60fps
@ 1080 getting over 60fps

Most other ENB's drag me down between 25 and 40fps.

i do have a beefy rig though.
