I think in the Golden Claw quest(Bleakfalls Barrow) there is a note/book you find that tells you the symbols are on the claw. I might be wrong...

Yea it says something like the answer is in your palm (or your hand or something), it's one of the notes I actually read

and I didn't get it until someone told me :(

Got this yesterday and...I'm not feeling it.

Maybe I'm getting too old for games, but I'd like a bit if hand holding in the beginning of the game. There is almost too much freedom.

I really find it hard to navigate to custom way points due to the lack of distance markers. I keep jumping back to the map to see how close I am, instead of enjoying the open world.

I played Oblivion quite a lot, but I had more time to put into the game. Nowadays I can only sit down for an hour or so at a time.

Perhaps this game isn't for those wanting small segments of fun?

I actually gravitated to this over Skyward Sword because Skyward Sword never lets go of my hand, and Skyrim lets me run wild. That's one thing I love about this game. In an industry where games are getting more and more focus-tested, I'm glad that Skyrim has some direction early on, and then just lets you loose on the world.

In fact, I thought Skyrim held my hand a little too much at the beginning. Part of me kind of wished the game would just start with waking up in a forest, and then going from there. That said, what they do introduce is very quick, and it definitely gives you some great background on where the story is headed.

On the topic of waypoint markers, they actually get bigger on your compass when you get close to them, but it is unfortunate that distance isn't listed.

Big-ass Ramp

hella bullets that's true
so I beat the main quest. kinda surprised that it's structured just like any of the other quests in the game. You get some sick shouts and get to see some beautiful scenery, but I'm glad I waited so long to finally play it. Definitely nice to go into it having some powerful spells.

how many hours did it take you guys to realize the door patterns are on the bottom on the claws for the door? I think I was at 60 hours.

It's been a while since I did it, but I think a journal or something had a hint about the way forward is found on the claw or something like that, leading me to try and inspect the claw in my inventory. You can kindof see there is the answer there in the default view and you just need to do something to find it, after hitting e on it did nothing i tried clicking and dragging the object, which instantly worked. Ended up solving it without being stuck for even a second.

There was a puzzle in a random dungeon that did stump me for a little while before figuring out that
A book found in that room has a story that includes the patterns and you are supposed to put them in the order of the story. It took me a while to think about looking in the books laying around, but again I think a journal pointed me in that direction and I just didn't realize it right of the bat.

Basically just read the journals and notes left in dungeons if you are ever stuck with a puzzle.

I'm sure it doesn't. I've finished quests without even having met the contracter. If you listened to the children, you know who you have to find.;)

Cool, thanks. Yeh they were saying someone's name, can't remember it now though, began with A I think.

On another note, do you know if is there an enchantment for the bow that lets you zoom? I'm a two-hander at the moment, but for a second playthrough I'd like to have fire arrows with zoom if possible.

This probably says something about my psychology I'm reluctant to acknowledge, but boy am I loving the way I can express it in this game.

I have so much fun doing all kinds of disturbing shit in these games. Save the world? Fight dragons? Yeah, hold on right after I turn this entire town on itself with Illusion magic. Oh shit, the guard just impaled the blacksmith! Score!

There's all kinds of stupid side games I play in my head while wandering around. Archers? Five points if you can make them fall off their ledge with Paralysis. Bonus points if they fall into water and float away before the spell can wear off. Twenty points for rolling a paralyzed Snow Bear into a settlement. Two to one odds that after casting Rage on the bard in the corner that the farmer kills him rather than the Orc in steel plate closer to the door. Five to one that the bard manages to kill someone before someone runs him through. Made a farmer kill his wife with Rage, then reanimated her and had her rip him apart while I spammed Calm on him so he didn't fight back so he could join her in undeath. I walked around with those two as thralls for like half an hour before I took them to the Shrine of Azura and shouted them off the cliff from the top. They died together (again).

Illusion and Alteration are gifts of the god of assholery; I am the patron saint of trolls.

Edit - Here's a pic of the farmer guy. I was paralyzing him just so he would fall over in that stupid pose. Somehow more hilarious that he would keep blinking.

Surprisingly, The Mage College has had the coolest, longest dungeons out of all the different quest lines I've done (all the guilds except thieves).

The last dungeon for the
Staff of Magnus
is especially long, and there's a shout AND a Dragon Priest in there. EPIC!

I may have to start a Dragon Mask collection. I have Volsung and Morokei so far.

No. I had an e-mail earlier this week that they were preparing shipment, though, but it said I could expect 4 to 6 weeks for delivery.

I think I fucked up my order somehow. I don't seem to have an account with Direct-Song so theres no way of knowing the status of my order. In fact that only evidence I have of paying for it is the paypal transaction confirmation.

Ok guys, help me out here. As a couple of you might know, my PS3 died on me while playing Skyrim. I was about 60 hours in, and right now I don't have the money to buy a new PS3, and I'm starting work on January, which means my first paycheck will be by the end of February.

Now, as I said, I start work on January (10th) which means I have nothing to do until then, and what better to do than playing Skyrim? But this is not just as easy as simply going to the store and grabbing the game. For one, I live in Japan and the game has not released here yet. I will be importing the Asian version for 360 most likely (the US version doesn't work).

Do you guys think it's worth it? I mean, I definitely wanna play it again and I don't care paying for it again (it's cheaper than usual because the yen is pretty high right now so I'd be buying for close to half the price of the game when it releases here), I also don't care about starting from 0 again, that means I can plan out better my first skills, and make a better character too.

But I have a couple worries...

1) I won't be able to get the DLC.
2) I already have a copy of the game with 60 hours put into it.
3) There will probably be a GOTY edition sometime during 2012 that will include all the DLC that I won't be able to purchase.
4) I also want the limited edition, but I can only find the US version which doesn't work on my JP 360 (the limited edition for PS3 would because there's no region lock though, but my PS3 is dead as I said).

Do you guys think it's still worth it? Also, anyone with the limited edition and that artbook thing, please tell me that it's a piece of steaming shit so I don't have to buy it... (I know it's probably awesome though..)

If only the artbook thing were sold as is, I would just purchase the game and the book :( (I want the figure too, but I can live without it for now)

PS. I also have a fairly capable PC but I don't like to play on it, I just use it for design (3D stuff). I rather keep my games on consoles, even if Skyrim is probably better on PC...
EDIT: Also, I just checked on Steam. My account is JP because it was the only place it would let me create the account from with my credit card, and apparently the game is still not available (until the 8th of December, and only in Japanese.. and while I understand the language, I definitely don't wanna hear Nords talking Japanese, thanks). So yeah..

I don't either, but I got an e-mail for it. It appeared in my spam folder, though, so maybe check yours.

I look forward to it.

Now and then I realize just how small a proportion of Skyrim's content I've touched and it's a little mind-boggling. I've barely touched all but one quest line, have forty five quests or tasks queued up, and keep running into things like that dungeon where I know there's more to it than I saw. I rode to my three assassination targets tonight, and found scores of new places, paths and vistas on the way. And I had a lot of others on my radar I didn't bother to 'find'. Crazy stuff.

Among tonight's pleasures was offing most of the wanderers I found on the roadway; joining the Dark Brotherhood has given me quite the blood lust. Hostile bandits I simply rode past, but non-hostile folk I stopped to chat with. An Orc with an attitude problem (fixed), a farmer on a long journey (canceled), a Stormcloak prisoner being escorted by Imperials (liberated). Best of all was a wandering bard, exploring the countryside so he could have experiences worth singing about. I paid him 25 gold to sing "The Dragonborn Cometh", and then slit his throat while he was sining it. He came all right, you just don't want to be around when he gets there. Took my money back off his corpse to boot. Sing about that one, fella.

The Dark Brotherhood and I are going to get along swimmingly.
I'm level 53, 150 hours in, and I only just reached Morthal yesterday.

EDIT: Well shit, the one time you expect at least one post to be made...

There's a perk (either for archery or for sneak, I'm not sure) which allows zooming using the left trigger (360).

There's also one after that which
slows down time
. I believe that one has more than one level.

You could have someone gift you the US version through Steam. I realize you'd rather play it on a console, but take this PS3 heat death as a sign. Play Skyrim on PC.

If I have someone gift me something via Steam, do I receive the version of whatever region he/she is from? I guess I could do that, but I don't wanna bother anyone with all the money transferring and all that. Also I can play on a bigger screen if I play on a console, whereas my PC (desktop one) is too big to bring it next to the TV (not living in my own house right now :p)

So while I was doing "Diplomatic Influence" quest or something like that an Ancient Dragon decided to show up in the courtyard...

Party Pooper !

PS3 play is getting unbearable though. PC version plays a lot better and I'm hopping back and forth between them. Still want to get that platinum trophy eventually though.

Holy crap, dude. That is cheap, hah. My bow is my main weapon, so no way would I go around with iron arrows. I always buy the entire stock of whatever the highest level arrows currently are. They're Orc, Dwarven, and the occasional Elven arrow for my level 15 character right now.

Guess I'll check out illusion. Haven't used it at all in 50 hours.

Is it worth it text

If you want to play it and you think you'll enjoy it, I think it's worth it. My first character essentially shat out on my after more hours than that. I'm enjoying my second character just as much, but I do wish it wasn't on Ps3. Though I wouldn't buy a second copy on Ps3 in my life.

I used to be rocking Forsworn and Steel arrows but eventually I figured out with my rate of recovery and stopping in at Blacksmiths once in a while it was totally fine to use up my stock of, like, 200 of every other arrow type in existence.

Will the eventual GotY Edition come with patches already built in, as well? Is that how those work? Sorry for the noodbish question.

Seriously, fuck whoever thought it'd be a good idea to make all the loot for the thieves guild leveled.

It would be nice to at least have some consistency with the quest/guild rewards. The Dark Brotherhood gear isn't scaled so what reason should the thieves guild be.

I would've thought so. In any case, there'll be a day one patch that includes all the fixes. Effectively the GotY edition will be the original game plus DLC and patches.

Any respec mods in yet? Want to reassign some useless early points.

I wanted to remove an accidentally spent perk yesterday and a friend recommended me this tool, it's not good if you want to respec often as you have to enter in all of your stats, but it worked with no problems for me.

A pic of me and my crew. Me in my full Legendary Daedra gear, my follower Erandus, in assorted Dragonplate/scale gear, and my Spectral Assassin buddy, who I treat like a bloodthirsty bard, telling me stories of death and decay as we stroll to our next dungeon/kill zone.
how can you have 2 companions? I can get only one.

what are the bonus of lycanthropy?
You can turn into a Werewolf and rip people to shreds. It expires after a set time (60 seconds I think), though you can't stop it yourself. Also, when it wears off, you have to re-equip all your apparel and weapons. I found it fairly useless, but it is fun for a while.

The down-side is that you cannot earn the "Rested" or "Well Rested" bonuses from sleeping.

Level 32, I'm a walking draconic lexicon, but I haven't even started on the main quest so I can't shout yet. Time to introduce dragons, I think.

For the people that don't fast travel at all, how are you getting on, level wise?

Sometimes I'll do a quest without fast travel and it'll take me an hour or more to actually get to the dungeon the quest is in!

I think a happy medium is to fast travel to the city nearest the dungeon and walk the rest of the way.
