Press tilde to open console, type "setessential 000A2C94 1", save game to make sure your changes stick.

Or you can recruit Mjoll the Lioness in Riften. She is already an essential character.
 
Not sure if this is the right thread, but... how would the game run on this laptop (it's not for me, I'm already playing it on a significantly better one)?

HP PAVILION DV6
CPU: Intel Core i5 460M 2.53 GHz
GPU: ATi Mobility Radeon HD 5650 1024 MB
RAM: 4 GB
Native screen resolution: 1366 x 768

It's a matter of PS3 vs PC here, and we all know how the PS3 version runs... but even disregarding the horrible game-breaking slowdown you get in that version after your save file gets too big, would it look and run better on this laptop? I'm thinking it would probably run alright at native resolution with about medium settings (maybe with some stuff turned down to low)...?

It'll be sightly better than PS3 without the soul-crushing performance issues.

THAT'S MY LAPTOP :D

You'll be pleased to hear (with the GPU clocks at 650/950*) you can get 25-40fps outside, solid 60fps inside. All settings at max, apart from Low shadows and Medium radial blur. No AA unfortunately but you don't really need it.

It looks a hell of a lot better than the console versions, and it supports 360 pads straight out of the box :)

(I'm running mine via HDMI to a 24" TV @ 1080p.. still runs beautifully!)
*download "AMD GPU clock tool" to set custom clocks, DO NOT set the values higher than 650/950
 
Hi, SkyrimPC-GAF. With this configuration:

Windows 7 x64
i5 2400
ATI Radeon HD 6870 1GB with the latest drivers
8 GB RAM
Monitor: 1920x1080 native

What's the sweet spot between High and Ultra that I can aim at? Ultra is shaky, High works just fine.

Also, do I use the 4GB LAA-aware .exe, now that I'm on PC patch #3( don't see a difference in RAM usage, it's 4GB plus in any case. Probably because I'm on Win7 x64 anyway). Should I expect improvements from what Bethesda says they're going to put in LAA in the next patch?

Hey guys I currently have a GTX460, 4GB RAM, and an Intel core 2 duo E6550 slightly overclocked to about 2.3GHz.

Am I right in assuming my CPU is my bottleneck? I want to upgrade, probably to a quad core as the recommended spec, but I'm not sure what to. It's a LGA775 socket btw.

I only want to spend enough to be able to run the game decently. ATM I sometimes get very good framerates around 30fps outside but most of the time it's shit, which makes me think my CPU s overburdened, as if it was my GPU it would always be shit.

So which LGA775 CPU should I upgrade to to be able to run the game decently?

Edit - How does this sound to y'all?
 
Does Skyrim work well with the lastest update? I'm running with the vanilla .exe (and 4gb patch) but apprently I need the lastest update if I want to run the script extender for SkyUI.

I have SkyUI installed on Mod Organizer and negate SKSE. I can boot it up right from Steam and it just works.
 
Played 8 hrs yesterday and lovin' it so far. I've had 3 CTDs (not too bad since I save often) and I've seen the "purple texture issue", but still great.

Are you using the 4gb 'mod' ? Link is in the OP - it doesn't appear to be a 100% fix but ought to at least reduce the frequency of ctd's.

It's pretty difficult to recommend investing money into another lga775 chip. Especially now that they're old enough where they are no longer cheap. There was a time where the q8400s were at pretty rock bottom prices and then it might have been a good purchase, but now you're looking at spending almost as much on a q8400 as you would on a i5-2500 which is a significantly more powerful cpu.

Of course investing in the i5 means new mobo and ram, but i almost think you're better off going for an i3/cheap mobo and ram then a q8400.

You should really ask in the "I need a new PC" thread where they are much more knowledgeable.

Having said all that, of course you'll get a bump out of a q8400 overclocked compared to your e6550.
 
Thanks man. I really only want to worry about the CPU for now, as later next year I plan on building a considerably more powerful PC from scratch. I only want this to last me til then, and freaking run Skyrim decently!
 
Any quick opinions on how my laptop will run Skyrim. Heading home for the holidays and I am thinking about picking it up to have something to play at home. I'm assuming fairly well but I'm pretty new to the whole PC gaming thing.

I can't understand how gameplaybreaking bugs in main questlines can still be in a game after basic QA.

Not defending Bethesda in any way(the PS3 thing is the pits) but mods are released on a basis of "didn't see any major issues, tell me if there's any issues so I can update the mods". Bethesda don't have that luxury; they'll need to test this across all possible configurations and deep into the game. Woe is them if it breaks installs. So I'd rather they take their time( as they should have done with the PS3 version) and give us a stable patch down the line.

he needs to move to 1155 prices if you have can even find a quad core for sale of the 775 set will be overpriced.

Yeah that 4GB does help. Pretty much the only CTD's I get are from using the Save options such as saving on travel or saving when entering a new area. Funny thing is it only happens with my game that I've played for over 120 hours. Other, shorter games are rarely affected. Anyone know why that is?

Check the save file sizes, chances are the 120+ hour saves are larger. It's a problem with the engine design. Be grateful you can play it on the PC, where the issue is almost negligible.

good mine are 11mb.... only 100 hours... I would like to play for at least 300.... hope I don't get corrupted.
 
Goddammit, I'm still using the 1.1 file for the game. Can't use 1.3 with Steam and I have a couple of obnoxious bugs. Skyrim refuses to let me use mods even though I've used the 4 GB mod. Still looks gorgeous though!

Eww, WTF?

Why isn't the game 90% desaturated while outdoors?
 
Fianally installed my first mod, the enhanced water textures. Why didn't I do this sooner, it looks great.

I'm sad that there isnt something that solves my biggest issue with the water, how nearest objects don't get reflected.
 
LAA patch was supposedly targeted for release last week. I hope this is it.

In addition, running Skyrim in Admin mode helped reduce my CTDs last night. Got a few (1 per hour) versus before which was close to 1 every 10-15 minutes.
