When you're a moderator, you can do whatever you damn well please. Watch your back. They don't take kindly to people exposing their web of hypocrisy.

Or, perhaps the fact that he used it ironically.

Buuuut then again:

"Sexual, racial, or ethnic slurs will not be tolerated in any form and are bannable on the first offense."

Ban Mike Works! Ban the man!

Of course, we shouldn't forget:

"You may not discuss the rules and regulations of this board on the forum."

Uh oh.

"I won't hold it against him that he went to Yale. There's nothing wrong with that."

What's up with this little gem? Didn't Bush go to Yale?

you know, it's sad. After seeing bush out there tonight look like a complete ass, it still pains me to know that people are gonna vote for him, anyway.

From the transcript above:
BUSH:
You know, I think about Missy Johnson. She's a fantastic lady I met in Charlotte, North Carolina. She and her son Brian, they came to see me. Her husband PJ got killed. He'd been in Afghanistan, went to Iraq.

You know, it's hard work to try to love her as best as I can, knowing full well that the decision I made caused her loved one to be in harm's way.
Was I the only one watching who thought, "Love her as best as I can"? WTF was that?

I'm not asking for anyone's ban, just pointing out that I myself, among many others, have been banned for calling people fa**ots, and to me personally, ni**er is a LOT worse slam. Especially from a white canadian. Hell, he'd get shot for talking like that down here ;)

I'm pretty sure I could say fa**ot anywhere in the US and be safer than Mike_Works if he said ni**er. I know the double-standard, and if I'm banned, I'll deal with it. I'll even go so far to say there are a lot more ni**ers in this world than there are fa**ots, the line shouldn't be drawn. And just because a mod (who isn't even in the US) can drop one epithet as opposed to the other in a political thread doesn't make either right.

Hell, you'd think Bishop would have a problem with this. Maybe we need a gay mod so we can call each other fa*s in jest without getting banned.

See you all in 2 weeks at best ;)

Bush is an incredibly awkward speaker. The topic of last night's debate was supposed to play to Bush's strengths yet Kerry came off as the only one with a plan. The next debates are sure to be an even bigger embarrassment for Bush.

Maybe if you quit calling people ni**ers then you wouldn't have to delete these posts. Hey I believe Kerry won the debates too, but some go too far in their circle jerks.

Maybe if we didn't ban people calling friends fa*s etc etc.

How is one better than the other? How are ANY any good? No MATTER the intent. I'm not blind, I saw the intent. I've also seen the intent of posters who were banned for similar/lesser grievences. Didn't matter. I've never seen a mod use the word faggot or nigger in ANY instance, but here it was.

And yeah, I didn't edit my words. God forbid. Remember, sticks and stones will break my bones but words will never hurt me.

Show your hypocracy.

Nope you didn't ban me, someone else did.

I'm getting uppidy as I don't see a difference between nigger and faggot. I don't find any word particularly pleasant. I've been banned for calling someone a fag. I was shocked at seeing the word nigger, particularly by a mod. I fully expect to be banned. I'm doing what some would call standing up for a point.

I'm not black, I'm not gay. I can't see why one word is apparently allowed while another word isn't.

Um, are you talking to me here, or someone else? I haven't deleted any of your posts in this thread. I only deleted one post, and that was my own, as I replied to what you said at the end of page 4, not realizing there was a page 5. So I deleted my reply, read page 5, and then replied. But I haven't touched your posts- deletion nor editing wise.

I've used the word before. Also, do a search for 'faggot' or 'nigger'. I'm definitely not saying it's okay to start calling people that, but I'm hardly the first to use either. I'm not going to hop up and ban someone who refers to John McCain's son as a "nigger baby" in reference to pairing him up with John Kerry's imaginary adopted child in a feat of senator on senator on little boy sex.

And yeah, I didn't edit my words. God forbid. Remember, sticks and stones will break my bones but words will never hurt me.

Seriously, you're talking to someone else, right? Are you talking to Socreges? Because I'm pretty confused here.

There's often a skin color difference. I'd say on average, "faggots" have a lighter skin tone than "niggers".

I don't find any word particularly pleasant. I've been banned for calling someone a fag.
See I wasn't attacking anyone with the word "fag" nor "nigger". When I was thinking of an adjective to come up with John McCain's adopted son, Chappelle just popped into my mind. Now if McCain's son was posting here, and I called him that, then I'd have to ban myself for 8 months.

I was shocked at seeing the word nigger, particularly by a mod. I fully expect to be banned. I'm doing what some would call standing up for a point.
Yeah, you're a real hero.

Neither are allowed really, under most circumstances. This falls into part-I'm an admin and part-give me a fucking break.

If it bugs you that much, I could edit it to African-American baby?

I disagree.

See, I think Bush kicked his own ass, in fact. Between awkward pauses and stumbling over his own words, he even embarrassed himself when speaking properly. Goes to show what kind of person he is when he doesn't have the campaign machine to hide behind.

The better man won. This debate, at least. Of course, the election itself is decided by people such as yourself.

I won't blame you if you're insulted by that last comment.

I was actually surprised the libs thought G W won the first half of the debate. I didn't feel that at all. However you want to phrase is though. G W got his ass kicked tonight in the debate.

First tragedy, then farce.
After a while to mill this over, I've decided Bush is in a bit more trouble than I thought last night, who knows how this will actually wind up affecting the polls (24 hour news cycle, we probably wont know for sure until late today or more likely tommorow and the long term effects are anyones guess)..

a) For the next week or so until the next debate we will hear about nothing but how Kerry destroyed Bush. This effect will snowball, and Bush will find himself not coming into the next debate on even footing with Kerry. He will be under a microscope and expected to fail.

b) Last year Gore 'won' the debates by most analyst but the Bush spinsters did a better job than Gores because Gore let fly a million stupid sound bytes to be played over and over again. Lock Box, this is my friend Marla bla bla bla who bla bla bla, etc. This year, Bush not only handily lost HE has all of the retarded sound bytes that will be played to death on Letterman, Leno, etc. Poland jokes will abound.

c) This is the only issue Bush is winning in the American voters eyes. Many feel it important enough to overlook his other shortcomings. If he cant win the debate on the war on terror, he is going to be hardpressed to overcome debates on the economy, job creation, etc. where most americans feel he is doing a pretty poor job.

I think Kerry only had a slight lead in the beginning, if only because of Bush's usual stuttering. I think Bush rolled himself over when he started to say things like "He forgot Poland!" and "I know Osama did it!", thats when I cracked a smile knowing Bush was failing.

StoOgE

that was pure Comedy gold. "I know Osama did it, of course I know who attacked us". Oh Jesus that was great.

I heard a story about the debate the other day on the radio (before it has taken place). They were saying the Democrats were trying to get Kerry used to giving shorter answers. The Republicans however were trying to make sure Bush could stay awake as he usually goes to bed at 9.30. That struck me as funny/weird for some reason o_O

DarienA

The black man everyone at Activision can agree on
I was already in full support of Kerry before this debate but afterwards I was so impressed because there were a few points that I hoped would be brought up that were:

1. Osama attacked us not Iraq.
2. North Korea and Iran developing nuclear weapons why haven't we done more with them.
3. Why the war had less of an international coalition than the repelling of the Iraqi invasion of Kuwait.
4. Why Oil Ministry was protected more than other locations.
5. Why approx. 14 military bases are being built.

Just a few things that I thought were HARD points that would come up... Bush failed to adequately comment let alone acknowledge many of them IMO.

One debate isn't going to change everyone's mind but I would hope that it brings this race closer(Polls taken by CNN still show that people think Bush has a better Iraq plan... huh?). I look forward to the next 2 debates.

edit - oh geez, did Bush really say this? "We've climbed the mighty mountain. I see the valley below and it is a valley of peace." How very biblical..

I also heard on Fox News (curious to see what they had to say on the debates) that Bush was tired because earlier in the day he met with some hurricane victims in Florida. LOL

I dunno... I wanted to see Kerry really come out with alot of energy and charisma and give the voters (especially those on the fence) sufficient cause to jump to his side, but I don't think he really did. He was way too nice and respectful of Bush and all the mistakes he's made. It just didn't feel like Kerry gained much, if any, leverage over Bush because of this debate, but we'll see.

There's two more debates left. Research the polls and read the news stories yourself as it's not a good idea to do that here for obvious reasons; Kerry, according to most people, did the better job.

Kerry had to be careful because his words can come back to haunt him, as he has "flip flopped" on a couple of the issues they talked about last night. He can't be too mean. Where I think Kerry will really shine and put Bush in his place is when they talk about the economy. There won't be any of the "well, first you said this, then you said that, then you went back to saying..." type of complaining from Bush.

Exactly, Kerry had to be discreet because Bush's only defense seemed to be criticizing things Kerry had said in the past or "flip flopping". So, all in all, I really feel Kerry did a great job.

Overall the debate was very pleasing. The questions concerned what alot of people truly wanted to know:

What would Kerry do different?

Bush made a major error by keep referring to Kerry as "Changing his position".
Bush also seemed to be very flustered during the whole ordeal. (Not very appealing to the audience)

I thought Kerry did great. He stayed calm, composed, and clearly answered Bush's constant attacks. While Bush repeated the same Iraqi war propaganda over and over along with his constant personal attacks, Kerry actually explained his stance on many issues. Ontop of that, Bush was clearly confused, and frustrated during the entire debate. If you felt Kerry wasn't energetic enough, I definitely think Edwards will make up for it. He is very charismatic, and one of the better speakers I've seen next to Clinton. I think the VP debate is going to be big this election year for the democrats.

Anyway, the Bush camp has to be scared. For 4 years the Republicans have ignored every important issue on the table. No increase of funding for our public school systems, have done nothing to keep our jobs from being exported to other countries, have continued to ignore our corrupt healthcare/pharmaceutical industries, and have pandered to industry at the expense of our environment. And for someone so "strong" on national security, needed police funding is non-existent in major cities, and border/airport security are both as horrible as ever. We also let Bin Laden run free, while we ran off to bully Iraq. Bush/Cheney are going to get owned on these issues. Oh wait, at least they wasted the time of Congress today, with only a week of sessions left before break, on a bill that would ban gay marriage. A bill that had no chance of passing. Sadly, that seems to be the most important issue to the Republicans right now. If they were as passionate about the other issues as they are about bigotry, our nation would be in a much better shape today.

I just started reading the transcript, and I don't know if the effect is exagerrated on paper, but Bush certainly does come across as being very incoherent. I had to re-read a few of his sentences to try and get what he was saying (try being the operative word).

Thank God, Kerry came ahead. If he manages to go up significantly in the polls with this and the following debates, diebold will be powerless, and they'll have to resort to other means in order to keep in power. This will finally disprove or prove once and for all what they're made of(it is said that some witnesses in the plame case have implicated some biggies, like rove, and Mr. P, it's said that cheney too might be involved, also many of the 9-11 victim's family members are asking for a new unbiased independent investigation, you know rumsfeld, condi, and the rest committed perjury in their testimony to the present one, a new investigation and they might very well end up in jail for perjury... that is the whole administration could pretty much end up in jail if they lose, they can't lose and they know it.)

Now for some comments, sorry for derailing a bit here:

I'm getting uppidy as I don't see a difference between nigger and faggot. I don't find any word particularly pleasant. I've been banned for calling someone a fag. Ain't the nig^^ word used within some groups in the african american community at times? I don't think the fa^ word is used within the homosexual community as casually. I mean the word nig^^ is used many a times in many comedies and movies, and even in the street. I mean You hear, and read What's up Nig**? What's up my nig^^? Hey nig^^!! you're such a nig^^, etc. and no it doesn't always end with "ah", many times it ends with the "er". I've yet to see such displays in the homosexual community... thus unless evidence is provided to the contrary the word fa^^^^ is more offensive than nig^^^.
