The Final Bosman Show

The guys over at 4chan are so fucking pissed, saying that the new MGS can be finished in 2h. And there are reports of players finishing around the 18 min mark. Is that true?

Yup. Eurogamer (I think it was them) did a run through of the Ground Zeroes mission in around 10 mins.

Keep in mind that was skipping all cutscenes and knowing the mission (where to go, what to do) before hand. And it was just that mission, none of the extras or anything.

Even so that's fucked up in my opinion.

Is the whole reflection thing a reference to the editing in the last episode?

Heh. The bonus storyline is more compelling that the actual videogame talk.

Damn, I love the way that Kyle is always able to articulate something about gaming that I totally agree with but never really noticed. This week with Kojima and no preorder prompting. Love this show!

Yeah, it is.
But why be pissed? Just... don't buy it. I'm not spending 30€ on in, I'm not pissed.
And to be honest, you can finish MANY games in less than 30 minutes.

Great episode. I think his point about pre-ordering is pretty spot on. Some are IMO taking it the wrong way. He's not saying you are wrong for pre-ordering. Obviously it's up to you, to decide how you spend your money. But more so, it's probably better to just wait for the retail version of the game, so that you don't feel ripped off when it doesn't live up to the media coverage/advertisement prior to it going Gold. I think this more so applies for those that, put down all their money.

I guess you could argue the pre-order point is sort of silly in that, most people don't pay in full when pre-ordering. They only put $5. And even if you did pay in full, Gamestop allows you to move that money over to something else. You aren't forced to buy that game, or to pick it up on Day 1. So you could still pre-order and hold off until retail to make sure the game lives up to its advertisement.

But I think the greater point he was making was that, you should just wait. So instead of him saying "stop pre-ordering", he should have said that "early adopting" needs to be toned down a bit.

If you absolutely sprint and rush through the main mission, it can easily take 18-30 min to beat it. However, if you take your time, explore every area, collect every side thing (and do all the side objectives), the main mission can take 1 hour and 30 min to 2 hours. Then there are new missions all together that take about 40 min (again, if you take your time and explore, and do all side objectives before completing the missions main objective). If you play like that, the game gives you about 5-8 hours of gameplay.

Here's all ten of 'em:

So far Ground Zeroes is reviewing worse than other mainline MGS games, so it looks like Bosman's gonna get another bet right.
Let's see here...

  • Price cut for Xbox One - 80% (89% chance counting a $500 Titanfall bundle)
  • By the end of the year we'll have a new word for microtransactions - 60% (editor's note: I'm all in on "Mattricks")
  • Titanfall has launch issues - 55%
  • Nintendo publishes two games rated T for Teen - ??%
  • Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes is going to have the worst Metacritic average of the main series and there's nothing I can do about it - ??%
  • Game of the Year hasn't been announced yet - ??%
  • There's another game with celebrity faces - ??%
  • Capcom puts out a trailer for a new Mega Man game, assuming we'll all be delighted, but it's awful and they shouldn't have even bothered - ??%
  • Sony's VR headset is real and I can't afford it - ??%
  • The third game in Nintendo's Sonic the Hedgehog exclusivity deal is really good for some reason - 5%
Bolded all seems to be dead-on, although YMMV on whether that validates each individual bullet.

If only his Capcom bet would have been for the new Sonic game, would have been dead on. Not saying I agree with this, but that was the reaction a lot of people had when it came out.

I'm certainly not a huge fan of blue-arms Sonic, but given the Naughty Dog pedigree, there's still a chance that one could turn out true as well.

Yeah I mean, I hate the character designs like everyone else. But I thought the game looked kind of fun. Thing is, Sonic Lost World came really close to being a good game. It was just the execution wasn't quite there. So I'm not completely down on the new game.

The "Be Like Kojima" advice was a little weird though - seeing as how that game doesn't clearly advertise what it is on the box (and some people going in blind are going to be pissed), and by all accounts here he seems to have misspoke with his tweet giving the reason why Ground Zeroes doesn't have a platinum trophy.

If he has the clout to put out a performance comparison video just because, he could be more upfront on other aspects of the game as well. I get entirely what Kyle meant by it, but timing...

Amazing bonus bit. Loved the main episode too.

I have been trying to pre order less these days, especially since games seem to drop in price so fast now.

Another great episode!

Loved the post-credits scene and all the nods to Metal Gear! Absurd acronyms (with their explanations in parenthesis), project titles in an arbitrary language, melodrama, cinematic dolly-in shots. Amazing!

A very good episode. Would be great if there was a way to broadcast Kyle's show to an even larger audience.

His points about Kojima are right on.

I finished it in 52 minutes the first time I played it. Watching all cutscenes (basically there is intro and end)

Holy shit, that last bit just killed me.

"Because it will make my true son stronger."
"Hey everybody, my Sliggoo just evolved into a Goodra... tooooo cuuuute!"

Los Bebés en Sombre! Send it England! DRWs!

Mr. Bosman should have had an eyepatch. Missed opportunity!

Hot damn another fine episode. I don't get the pre-order thing either. If I'm going to buy a game I'll buy it when it comes out. These episode endings are just fantastic.

"Hey everyone, my Sligoo just evolved into a Goodra! Toooooo cute!"

I'm sorry Kyle... but
Goodra looks like somebody pooped out a Dragonite
.

Yeah this epilogue skit was beyond hilarious.

On desktop, you can login to GT and download the video file.
On mobile, the Android/iOS app is available in respectable stores. I find the mobile app far better than their mobile website.

Thanks, will never understand why a website that has video as its main focus has such a terrible playback functionality

Ugh I didn't mind DLC when it was just costumes or an extra gun or something but when it started being missions and things? That is crap. I mean what is the full experience of the game supposed to be then?

Yeah it's dumb as hell. There's also a deluxe edition that seems to give you everything...for $10 more. PC master race only though...

on the subject of pre-ordering...hate retailer exclusive dlc. For example:

http://watchdogs.ubi.com/watchdogs/en-us/buy/index.aspx

Honestly when I see this stuff it just drives me away from ever buying the game. I feel like I'm getting an incomplete product so why would I buy it at all at that point?

I haven't preordered a game in probably 8 years and never step foot in GameStop anymore. His take on the purchase experience was spot on.

Yeah, it's a problem that only exacerbates the issue publishers have with gamers waiting until severe price drops to buy. Because if one refuses to pre-order, then the absolute worst time to purchase a game is in the month or two after release when the price is the same (or nearly) but lacking any pre-order bonuses. Sure, you can find discounts on games from time to time within a few weeks/months of release, but often that discount isn't enough to off-set the preorder bonuses (map packs, $20 in game currency, other DLC content offered as an incentive to preorder).

So, really, the best time to buy a game is either: Pre-order OR Once a big discount hits several months to a year+ down the road.

I miss the days of preorder bonuses just being shitty little trinkets or soundtracks. Anything that affects the game, even aesthetically, is annoying. The aesthetic exclusives annoy me because they often come with a product where one of the hooks in that game is collecting other similar aesthetic type items (costumes, trinkets, weapons/items that are identical to others in the game other than aesthetically i.e. battlefield knives, etc)

So me and a couple of guys from the site I work on part-time got a chance to sit down with Kyle and interview him, thought you guys might be interested in reading that.

http://www.endlessbacklog.com/index.php/features/101-endless-bosman-interview

There is also an audio version that has some stuff which didn't make it into the written piece:

http://www.endlessbacklog.com/audio/podcasts/Endless_Brocast/BosmanInterview/Bosmaninterview.mp3

Kyle is a great guy. I didn't speak during the interview but I was there recording, and thats me in the introduction of the audio version after the cold open. He is definitely the guy you see on the show, just a really genuine person who is passionate about games.

Oh, and he absolutely loves the Gifs people make of him.
